A girl I know has just become a grandmother at age 38. 38 is so young, it made me feel old! Until I realised my mother had me when she was very young and became a grandparent at 42 and there's a possibility I could be one at that age :o My grandparents were well into their 50's when they became grandparents.
At what age did your parents become grandparents?
My mum was 42 when DS was born.
My Grandmother became a Grandmother at 43, My mother at 45. And my grandmother became a great grandmother at 65.
My mother became a grandmother at 45.
My mum was 48 when my nephew was born, but she was 57 when the next came along.
My mum was 49, her mum was 39, and then a great grandma at 67, and her father a great, great grandfather at 89.
My dad and Dh's parents were 55.
I have friends whose parents are still waiting for grandchildren in their late 60s!
38, wow I'm 37 and not a mother yet, but chances are, I may be soon ;)
dad was 60 mum 56.
FIL was just shy of 70 MIL 68 i think?
but both sets had kids later in life... i had Dj at 19 (but he wont have kids due to his disabilities) and Vic was 21 so who knows!
My mum became a Grandma at 38.

They all complain they are too young to ve grandparents. Seems like a pretty normal age to me.
Mum was 48. Dad was 58.
Mum had me when she was 20 but i had my first child at 28.
46 and 47 when I had DD1 at 21. My Grandparents had my Mum at 40 so weren't Grandparents till mid-60s.
MIL and FIL were both 54 (for our kids. 52 for their first grandkid)

My mum would have been around 55 with her first grandchild and then she carried on that she was too young to be a grandmother!
She was 69 when I had DD1.
my dh was a granddad at 38.
My mum was 58 and my dad was 63.
My mum was 50 when her first grandchild was born and dad 52.But they were 71 and 73 when DD was born, but there granchildrens ages range from 25 for the oldest to almost 2 1/2 with my boys.
That's because my older brother was born when my mum was 24 (almost 25) and my sister when she was 28. I didn't arrive until my mum was 36 and then I had my first when I was 36 - so based on DD following the same path I will be in my 70's before I become a grandmother.
MIL was 66 and FIL 67 (on the day) when DD was born. My kids are the only grandchildren they have and even though they are younger than my parents (who are now 75 & 77) they act some much older when it comes to participating with the kids where my mum and dad will happily look after all mine at once - which is no mean feat dealing with an almost 4yr old and two 2 1/2 yr olds.
My mum was 45.
My Mum always says she's a young Nanny, but she was 48 when DD was born and I really don't think it's that young for a grandchild - I'd rather be young!

Mum was just 41. Nana was 39, great nana was not quite 30 (yes, that was not a typo. Not quite 30!)! Great nan became a mum for the second time about two months before she became a grandmother... First kid at 14, second at 29 (same father), first grandson born shortly after that (nan was only 15-16)
Wow I am about to turn 42 and I have a 4 year old and an 11 month old, so absolutely no chance of me being a young grandma. My mum was 58 when my nephew was born and 61 when my first baby was born:

My mum was 56 when my nephew was born. She thought that was too young as she didn't have me until she was 30.
My MIL has just turned 61 so she would have been 54 when DD was born. SHe thought that was too old as she had DH at 22 and he didn't have DD1 until he was 32.
Funnily though my parents act much younger than DH's who have been 'old' forever.
My mum became a grandparent at 36 and my dad was 35.
Mum was 47 and dad 46 when my sister had her first child. 7 grandchildren later and both mid 60's
My mum was 39.
We turned 21 and 40 in the same year.
My grandparents became great-grandparents at 65 and 61 :)
And my [great]Nanna would have been a great-great-grandparent at age 83, but she passed 3 years before :(
My mum was 37. MIL was 37 and FIL was 38.
Nope mum was ummmm number 8 of 10 (could be 11. My eldest uncle was rumoured to have a twin but that still birth was not discussed). Three of the kids have passed (still birth and SIDS for two daughters before mum, gastro and possible malpractice for mums little sister when she was only 6):

Actually no ine could say much about anything. Great nan eventually married father of her child when she came of age, nan was married and then separated after the girls passed, got together with my grandfather but never divorced (it wasn't the good catholic thing to do) and we found out the day she died that her and grandad were never actually married.
After reading all the posts so far, it seems my folks had to wait forever to become grandparents! Mum was 59 and dad was 72.
My mum was 40. In-laws were 50 and 52.
When DS1 was born, my dad was 54 and Mum was 50. My grandfather was 74. My grandmother was 79.
The youngest grandmother I had at work was 28.
My mum was 50yrs, in laws were 59 & 60.
Youngest I know of was 30, she was 15 when she had her daughter, then daughter had baby at 15 too.
Lol, I broke tradition in my family! As far as I know, my mum's mum and my dad's mum were fairly young grandmothers, but my own mum wasn't a grandma until she was 59. It could have been a lot worse as I had my first DS when I was 38, but because my mum had me at 21, it wasn't so bad. Imagine if my mum had me at 38 and I had my DS at 38, she would have been 76! lol. Oh, and I will definitely be a very old grandma haha.
My Nan C would've been in her mid 30s, I think, her first grandchild was born a year or so after my mum :o I'd never really thought of it like that! She was 55 when she became a great-grandmother, 75ish when she hit great-great.
Nan M... I have no idea, because I'm not sure when she was born or how old my oldest cousin is on that side :redface: I'm going to guess late 40s, possibly mid 50s. All her kids were close together and the older ones had a later start having kids than the younger ones, so almost all the grandkids were born in the span of ten years or so.
My mum was 46 when Ianto was born, 47 when Amelia was born (for those who refuse to count Ianto)
My parents are 48, they think they are way too young to be grandparents! To be fair though, my mum could pass for 35. I don't look my age either, so I have had people tell me I'm too young to have a baby! I'm 25.
So..... I made my mum a nanna when she was...33 or 34 *oops*
Cool thread! My Mum is 51. Dad and ILs are in their 60s. I'm hoping DH and I can make them grandparents next year. :)
My grandma (Dad's Mum) is the only grandparent DH and I have left. She's 80 and became a great-grandmother when she was about 73 I think via my cousin and his girlfriend.
