Anyone read it?
Finished them.
Loved them.
Mostly.
Loved them. Read them in 4 days and cried like a baby at the end. Didn't see it happening that way.
Me too!!
Actually, oh wonderful moderator powers, could we please have ** spoiler in the heading?
I totally want to discuss them, and don't want to spoil it for anyone who is waiting for the movies ...
Though that being said, SHAME ON THEM!! :p
Amazing book series!!!
Loved the ending and hated all in one.
Currently reading #1. I reckon I've got some good plot predictions going already. Not sure it's going to hit my button quite the same as Hunger Games did. Movie out soon - Apr 10 so DD1 tells me.
Thinking about reading them!
Although, I have heard that it is no where near as good as The Hunger Games Trilogy....happy to be convinced otherwise! So shall keep an eye on this thread :)
They are just as excellent as the Hunger Games, and I feel in some ways they are written even better than the Hunger Games were. Much more of a dynamic between older teens having to make adult choices and how those choices affect outcomes and consequences etc.
Equally readable and enjoyable in my opinion.
I probably preferred the 1st and 2nd Hunger Games, but preferred the 3rd Divergent book.
Overall, probably a tie. :)
DH *loved* the series. He read Books 1 and 2 in one day each!! Book 3 was longer, but only because he had to do an essay for uni at the same time.
Off to get them for the Kobo...
I just looked them up in our library and someone is over due. D'oh! I'll be keeping an eye out for its return.
Oooh, thanks for the recommendation. Will add to my Easter reading list.
TFB, you would probably also like the Matched trilogy too. Apparently there have been whispers of that one being turned into a movie as well.
Anyone watched the flick?
Thoughts?
I haven't seen it yet but a friend has who said it was good. Not sure if she read the books or not.
I borrowed the first book from the library and couldnt wait for the second to be returned so went and bought it and in a space of less than a week to finish both first and second books, the third book had 3 reserves at the library (there are 3 copies!) and all the local stores are sold out! Wah!!
Book depository. Free delivery. Love it.
Read all three and saw the movie the next day. I enjoyed the movie, but not sure if I would have enjoyed it without reading the books first.
I liked it :)
There's so many bits and characters cut out (always the way, with movies from books) but quite a few of the cut backs leave me wondering how they're going to tie up other things later - I'll just have to wait and see!
I thought the actor for Tobias (droooooooooooooool) was spot on, but some of the others just weren't at all in line with the book.
Not necessarily a problem, but some really weird choices - particularly for Tris and Christina.
The setting was also really different from what I'd pictured - but I think they introduced us to the setting really well, right at the start of the movie.
So for someone like me that loved the Hunger Games book 1&2 more than 3 (and all the fan fiction out there) do you think I will love it as much?
I loved the hunger games (I was in tears lol) and have quite enjoyed these. Not as much as the Hunger Games but still a good read. I've found them a little predictable in parts but I'm still waiting to get my hands on the third book...
I love seeing people saying "they're predictable" before reading the third :p I felt the same
I found the third Hunger Games book dragged, and was a bit "cluttered" - just not as well written, paced and polished as the other two.
I loved all three Divergent books :) [[except for one thing, which I won't discuss until others have confirmed they've read it!!!]]
I thought the 3rd book was a bit slow, but then it picked up the pace.
Ok, I'm hooked. Nearly finished book 3. Recommending the books too.
It is more interesting than Hunger Games, to me, and is more multifaceted in terms of beliefs, lives and government issues.
Although I rarely debate if I should read, more what time I can make to read!
Glad you're liking them!
What are your favourite concepts / characters / etc?
I like Evelyn best, as she's so human. Scarily so. She is us at out best and our worst, but never both to one person without a dispassionate view, which the characters cannot have.
Tris and Tobias are not favourites. They annoy me with the whole relationship/lie/mistrust/love/hate/blame cycle. They are interesting people to have as leads, but their friends are more interesting as characters.
I also love the eugenics element in book 3, but that could be because dystopian genetics in fiction inspired me to become a geneticist as an adult.
Just finished the series. Third book drove me nuts. I would love to discuss it, maybe we should start a new no-holds-barred SPOILER SpOILER thread so we thrash it out?
YES !!
Second movie out soon - anyone seen a trailer yet?
We just watched the first movie. When they are on the train at the end DH goes "Are they on their way to District 13?"
