When did you leave?
Has anyone else had the feeling of no wanting to work anymore?
The last few days, especially today and yesterday, ive not wanted to go to work at all, I want to stay home relax and take care of bubs.
Im no longer enthusiastic about work at all! The money doesnt even interest me! and that was the main reason for working, so we can save up and move out from living with Ricks mum and her bf!
I do want to move out, i just dont want to work and do it, iykwim, i wanna make sure i give this bubs everything i can.
Considering im only 5wks, when did you or plan to leave work?

Naomi, as you know I am only six weeks pg, and although the prospect of not working sounds appealing, quite frankly I think it would make for a very boring nine months! If you're not working there will be a lot less money, which means a lot less things you can do with your time! Honestly, I don't think it's healthy for anyone to sit at home all day and watch dvds etc! (No offense!) Again, it's a nice thing to do for a little while....not for months on end! And lets face it, there will be plenty of time to be on one income when bubs arrives.
Having said all that, I am possibly about to start a new role at my work which involves dropping my hours down to about 30 per week. I didn't go looking for it, but I figure it's probably a good time to work a little less, and it may mean that I can work for longer. In my current role I wold need to go on leave at about 32 weeks.
Dh would be happy for me to give up now if I wanted to, but although I know money isn't the be all and end all, my sanity is! I have just had a week off which has been wonderful, and I'm very sure I will look forward to my maternity leave, but right now I am almost looking forward to going back to work!
I understand you wanting to stay at home (esp after having a m/c) but IMO it will be healthier for you to continue working, in some capacity, at least for a few months yet.

I can completely understand where you are coming from.
I could imagine 9months without a job as extreamly boring!
But what i ment is that (i should of explained it better), i want to cut my days down, like only work 3-4 days a week and then i can start to get my course done, which i wanted done before i had kids so when on leave i can earn a little income. But to do the course i need 2 weeks off and $2000, and considering, Rick is about to buy a ute, we need to get out of this house, the course(s) comes in later.
Im basically thinking i only want to work a few more months, get out of here do my course and then, i can focus on my beading stuff and my course.
I hope that made more sense
ETA even without being pg, that was the plan anyway.

I went part time very early on the first pregnancy because I have a physical job & wasn't able to do all that my job needed me to do, so I reasoned with my boss that it was better to have a part timer share my duties so it wouldn't be hard to train someone when I left. He was happy with that. So I dropped 2 days and the part timer picked up 2. Then as I got further along I dropped another day and finally finished at 30 weeks with my duties jobs. As payroll I stayed on another 6 weeks and while I did puppy preschools I continued until 38 weeks.
This pregnancy I only worked 2 shifts a week so I stayed on those until 32 weeks and I just finished puppy preschool last week at 35 weeks and I still do payroll... no one to train to do it! So hopefully something will be figured out because I can't imagine me going in with a week old baby!!

Naomi i would stay at work until at least 37wks pregnant as it would get boring being at home all the time. Also think of all the nice things you can buy bubs with your wages.
I stopped work with Kimberley at about 33wks but that was because i had the start of PE. I was meant to have given up work at around 36wks i think it was so i could have some time to myself but it didn't work out that way.
If work seems that bad maybe go part time and then you still have time to look after bubs. They do a good job of looking after themselfs also so you don't have much to do other than put your feet up and believe me if does get boring.

I went on maternity at 5 & 6 months pregnant with both girls. With Gemma my bp shot up and my job is very physical so I left at 5 months so I could concentrate on getting my bp under control. This pregnancy with Gemma being so young I left at 6 months because I needed time at home to rest and with Gemma. Its been great!! I highly recommend if you can afford it to take time out and concentrate on yourself before bub arrives!

Well im thinking, after i speak to my Dr a bit later today, that i might get work to put me on 3-4days a week, i think i will be much happier, with atleast one guarenteed day off a week iykwim, im also worried, as i am only casual, that once the big boss finds out im fired anyway, so i thought if i got it all organised with my boss now (she knows) that by the time they find out, it shouldnt matter as its all been organised and is working out, iykwim?
Who is to say i wont feel completely different 2morrow or monday!!
-
I stopped work at 27 weeks as i was also studying full-time and something had to give. It was nice as i was able to really concentrate on being preg and taking care of myself. I was also doing hypnobirthing so i was able to really concentrate on that..... BUT things were quite tight financially. My job was also one where i was on my feet. Had i had an office job of some description i would definately have stayed until much later. Things do get a little boring and as mentioned by others think of all the lovely things you can buy bubby.

I'm planning to leave 2 months before, though I don't know how my boss will react to this. I also don't think I'll be coming back, so how do people manage this? Do you go on maternity leave then send in a resignation letter? Anyway, for me it is way too early to think of all this stuff. I'm 9 weeks and will be happy to make it through to 12 weeks then 20 weeks, then I'll think of all this stuff.

I'd love to go 4 days a week but doubt very much that this would be an option!

Wow! I cant believe I just found this post...today of all days.
I am an IT contractor and my current contract ends in three weeks time. When I first announced that I was pregnant, my boss and others at work said that they wanted me to stay on for at least a month beyond the end of my current contract and I was happy with that - sign a new contract for a mth which would give me about 7 weeks at home before bubs arrived BUT today my boss told me that it is unlilely that this will happen because a lot of the work that was earmarked for me is now on old until after xmas.
I am in two minds about finishing so soon....I sent a mail to my hubby telling him I was disappointed and this is what he wrote back:
"Hey angel
What's bothering you? Is it money or is it being unsure what your going to do with your day? Money will be fine, we have been planning for when your not at work for a year now. I'm sure you will adjust well to having more time to yourself during the day.
You should have some time to yourself to relax before bub gets here, as your not going to get a whole heap of time to yourself after bub arrives.
Love you both"
How sweet! He always knows how to make me feel better. I am not sure why I am feeling so wierd about finishing work. I was slowly preparing for this life changing event but its all happening so quickly....I think I am worried about the lack of money and about being able to keep myself busy. I have had some BP problems so i am sure my OB and my specialist will be happy I am going to stop sooner than later....
Sorry to highjack this post...

Naomi, I went through a stage just recently where I didn't want to go to work at all. I know for a fact we aren't ready to cope on one income, so thankfully I didn't throw my job in!
I was feeling like it from about 5 weeks through to last week - so about 10 weeks. Now I feel much better about work. My job isn't physical either, although I do catch public transport to and from work which takes 3 hours each day. Now though it's all good. I'm back to knitting too, so I've started knitting again on the train...little things for bub which is like having some 'me' time. I'm thinking I'll be able to hang in now until 37 weeks :)
-
With my first I worked until four days before she was born - she came a few weeks early though, I had actually planned for a month off (finished work at the end of my 35th week) but she had other ideas.
This time I was determined not to get caught like that again so I finished work at the end of my 32nd week.
And here I am almost 38 weeks pregnant and still no baby LOL.
BUT I am very organised this time and it was nice not to have to haul my huge self to work every day at the end.
-
I am 21 weeks and for the past few weeks have been wishing I was on m/l! I have a highly stressful job and it is driving me nuts. But I only work 2 days a week (then study the other 3) so am hanging in there. I intend to go on m/l at the end of Jan when I will be about 38 weeks...Not too long to go now!
-
I originally intended on working through Christmas to the middle of January (baby is due 10 Feb). But I've since changed my mind and will be leaving just before Christmas - tkaing annual leave over Christmas so still get paid for pubic hols!
Would love to finish up now though!!
-
very interesting!! I have been wanting to walk out for the past 2 days!!!
Im in a managerial position and Im not enjoying the responsibility of everything at the moment
I keep forgetting little yet important things and Im being blamed for everything. Im going to talk to DH over the weekend but Im sure I need to cut back to maybe 5 hours per day (instead of 8.5) or drop a day or two.
Seriously, growing a baby is hard work enough without lifes other hidden stresses.
I will be giving up totally by 30 weeks for sure.

I have the luxury of a flexible job as DP and I own the business.
My work was mowing lawns, landscaping gardens, chopping down trees, vacuuming endless amounts of stairwells.
At first when DP found out I was pg, he said he didn't want me coming to work. I explained to him I wasn't a delicate incubator, that pregnancy isn't an illness, and whilst I would be more careful, that I was still going to work...I couldn't handle staying at home. This is DP's first baby and it's all a bit scary.
Fast forward one week, and I start to bleed and it just gets worse. Diagnosis is a subchronic hematoma (a large blood clot sitting behind the baby) and a tumor or complex cyst on my ovary which has ruptured and bleeding everywhere and now I'm on light duties at home, full pelvic rest, no lifting and certainly no manual labor as I was doing before.
I can tell you it's sending me crazy!!!!!! I hate it!! I feel depressed like a blob doing nothing but lying on the couch most of the time, my self worth has been affected which is annoying. The days are full of scares with contractions and pain and the bleeding coming and going. I worry about if we do make it past the first trimester, what are they going to do about this other thing on my ovary, what if it's cancer, etc, etc.I would do anything just to have a normal pregnancy.
The rest makes me feel happy in the sense at least I know I'm doing all I can for the baby's best chance, even if in the end little bean doesn't make it, I know I'm doing the best job I can helping it stay in there.
I don't mean to hijack, but I guess my point is to work while you can :) At home you have much more time to worry, it puts a huge strain of finances and the time goes so slooooooow. Enjoy your healthy pregnancy that allows you to do all those things :)

I think I worked up until about 4 weeks before my due date. The first week home I just slept in and got around in my PJ's until I needed to go out.
The 2nd week I was going to start packing my bag (hospital was 200klms away) hospital bag and baby bag and I ended up being sent to the hospital before i made it to my 2nd week!
Early on in my pregnancy i had some bleeding and my bosses were going to get someone in to job share with me, but never did. I was working 5 days a week, 8.5 hour days.

In early pregnancy, I found I was looking forward to going back. Then at about 16w pg I found I was going to be made redundant, and be interviewed, and if I stayed I'd be doing twice as much work for less pay... can't wait to go now. Go and never go back! I'm really hoping for redundancy. If they don't do it now they'll only do it in a year or so's time so if I go back, I'll go back to this cr@p again. I'm going at Christmas, when I'll be 35w, and I can't wait!
-
I am planning to begin my leave about 5 or so weeks before baby's due date. I might change my mind though, depending on how I am feeling at the time.
I dont get paid maternity leave so I dont really want to leave too early.
-
With my first I left when I was 7 months pg. I was going to go through to 8 months but we were going away for 2 weeks to a friends wedding in Townsville, so figured that I may as well just leave then. It was GREAT!! I nested pretty bad for a couple of weeks...lol.
This time, I found out I was pg about a week after I'd finished working on a contract job and figured there was no point in getting a new job as I couldn't take something knowing I was pg. I have a couple of temp agencies who know I'm willing to do some short term p/t hours temp work, but nothing yet and I don't mind anyway. I don't usually get bored and I get to have nanna naps if I'm tired :D
It's a personal thing, however if you're not happy and you don't have to be there then personally I would consider leaving if it's causing you stress. I know people who leave at the last minute and then can't wait to go back, but I'm not CAREER minded like that and love not working...lol.
-
I know exactly what you mean!!! I couldnt wait to leave work when preggas with DS....I left at 7 Months, and really enjoyed my time off!
Now that I am only working 2 nights a week, I thought i would be thinking differently this time round.... But no.....I still want to leave now LOL! I think mainly because I am just sooooo tired, and when the MS kicks in, Yuk! I think its hard to go to work when your mind is just not on the job IYKWIM....
-
For the entire first trimester i completely lost interest in work as i was so excited about baby and didn't want to focus on anything but! Now i don't mind if i go to work or not. Because of my job which is very physical i'm only performing my full duties for another 4 weeks then i'm going onto light duties which will be basically office work - very different to what i currently do - i'm partly scared about not working my normal job because that is where i'm comfortable and know what i'm doing but i'm also worried about working the next 4 weeks due to risk of injury - i just have to be very careful. I plan to work until 35-36 weeks on the light duties, then take annual leave for 4 weeks and start maternity leave 1 week before i'm due so i can stretch the income out. It's very personal - if we could afford for me not to work i would probably stop earlier but financially this is not possible. I hope you work out what you want to do.
-
Hey Naomi. I took 6 weeks leave I had owing and 'tacked' on maternity leave. I was only about 30 weeks along and I had had enough! I'd been working for the same company for nearly 10 years though!!
-
Naomi - firstly congrats on your pg!!! I worked up until 36wks with DS and wasn't until about 34wks I just didn't want to go anymore. Having said that I only got 3 days off as ds was induced at 36wks so that was a bit of a bummer.
With this one I felt like crap, really bad m/s and fatigue and didn't want to come to work from day dot. But I loved my job. Once I got thru the first tri it was much better however due to some complications and family stuff I had to take leave at 16wks and I am loving it! It is really n ice to slow down and enjoy this pg esp as it will be our last and spend time with ds. I am ready now to take up some casual work just to keep in the loop.
See how you feel in a couple of weeks. Maybe you need to have a little break, like have a sickie and give yourself a long weekend.
