Pregnyl, pregnancy symptoms.

Hello girls.

I was just wondering if anyone has experienced or can provide some type of information.

I have not ovulate for the pas 4 years, therefore I was referred to Monash for Ovulation Induction. My first course of gonal f injections did nothing, zilch, my ovaries did not react. The second round, my dosage was increased, this time I had 14 fillicles most of them over 18mm. This round had to be cancelled. I got a period 2 weeks later, although, I had not ovulated and my period was not a valid period. I had to wait 2 more weeks before I was able to have my Pregnyl injection as to prevent hyper stimulation (if that is what its called). I felt really sick, I had all the pregnancy symptoms under the sun, seediness, cramping in my uterus and ovaries, dizzy etc. I did a HPT and got a really faint line on day 9 after HCG injection, I was asked to do a blood test and it showed up as negative. It is now day 19 and I still do not have a period. Has anyone else experienced any of the above. Can someone please share their experience with HCG injections, or ovulation induction. I find that the nurses do not provide sufficient information. Its so sad that we are forking all this mullah for this and do not have enough support.

Like you I have just today cancelled a cycle due to way to many follies. It is really hard to get the dose correct isn't it.

Usually I have a Pregnyl injection to induce the ovulation. Last month I had really sore BB and a lot of cramping as well. These were just the effects of the HCG injection and soon dissapeared after the injection had worn off (I think around 10DPO) One other month I had also got a false + when I tested to early after a pregnyl injecyion. How many days ago was your blood test?

I did the pregnyl injection on the 8th/12 and that the blood test on 20/12. I still do not have a period and I get bad cramping once in a while, well actually at least once a day.
How many follicles did you have?....

I had around 13 so it was disappointing yesterday but today I am trying to view it as a good sign because when we do IVF there should be plenty of follies there for pick up.

Have you thought about doing another blood test? I would have thought the effects of the pregnyl injections would have worn off by now???

I too understand the frustration of a cancelled cycle - although Im assuming in the case of you guys it was due to your high hormone levels rather than follicle numbers, as 13 or 14 is a reasonable number....?? The other reason I say this is because that high hormone level could be the reason for the delay in AF's arrival.

Unfortunately that HCG could have still been lingering when you did HPT on day 9, but no doubt gone by the time you did blood test. Have you had regular cycles in the past?

Also the cramping does tend to hang around after a cancelled cycle until AF shows (mine was also delayed after cancelled cycle), and apparently this is because as you arent taking any more drugs/etc to support the follies they start to 'breakdown' (for lack of a better word) thus causing all that yucky cramping...

Well I really am not expecting AF this month nor any month without the support of drugs. I have not had a period for a little under 4 years. This is the reason I am having difficulty falling pregnant. I was told that I do not produce enough hormones to stimulate the ovaries.
I am a little confused because, chlomid did not work for me as the message from the brain was apparently getting lost, so they had to “pull out the big guns” (gonal f & Pregnyl) yet they have not done further tests to sere why this is so. ….It makes me so frustrated not getting any answers.

Panda - one thing I have found in all this is that most places are reluctant to tell you anything and very few of them do anything without persistant pressure from you. Its frustrating and SO wrong of them - especially when we pay the money we do!

My suggestion would be possibly have a look on the net to see if you can find someone in Aus who specialises in the exact problem you have (is it low progesterone?) and contact them - even if they are not nearby they may know someone who is and may be able to suggest to you what the best next steps are... I found that when you tell a doc that you are considering going elsewhere suddenly they start to show an interest - funny that.

This is an old thread but as a current user of Pregnyl, I thought I'd add my comments. Pregnyl is an artificial HcG (pregnancy hormone) that is used in fertility treatment to ripen an egg. Another similar drug is Ovidrel. Patients of IVF Australia are probably familiar with using Ovidrel as the trigger injection during the stimulated cycle.

I'm currently doing an IUI process, and as I registered low counts of both eostrogen and progesterone in my first cycle, my medical team decided I needed support during the luteal phase this time. So on my IUI day I also had a lovely Pregnyl shot in the backside, and have had to go for a top up shot three times a week over the past two weeks.

The problem with Pregnyl is that if you do a pregnancy test, you're likely to get a positive result whether you really are pregnant or not. They look at the levels of HcG, and today I was told, if it's over 400, then it's probably a genuine pregnancy. What ever you do, do not pee on a stick!

As for symptoms or side effects on Pregnyl, I looked up the manufacturers product notes, and they said a swollen face, lips and tongue were common! I haven't had any of these. I have had nausea, a dry tongue, a hideous taste in my mouth, tiredness, sore boobs, cramping uterus etc. My team say this could be what we're hoping for - but we have a long way to go before we can start celebrating.

I think Ltl Panda talked about Pregnyl being used for follicle stimulation - on both IVF and IUI I was given Puregon for this which is an artifical form of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) - not Pregnyl. So check your protocol - you might have your drugs mixed up (in your mind).

On how much information your doctors and nurses will give you, I will say this: they know how desperate people on fertility treatment are for any glimmer of hope. And there are legal implications fo providing misleading or deceptive information, so they rarely tell you anything that could be open to misinterpretation. My experience is medical staff dealing with infertility have got very good poker faces, which can come across as appalling bedside manner. Our IVF doctor was so stiff, we never failed to leave his office in tears.

One thing I have learned lately is to watch your progesterone scores. They usually check this on Day 21 (or the equivalent) during your cycle. The range for gestational progesterone is 37 - 205. So if you get a good score, it's a good sign!

Sept 1, 2008 - Further to the above, it's also worth noting that if you've been using Pregnyl as luteal support and your pregnancy doesn't make it over the line, your period will be very late. Very late. It's a bit distressing when you know full well you're not pregnant - easy to see how folks going au natural could think they were preggers and then miscarrying as a result. We're pleased we had the added insight of many monitoring tests as we knew exactly when our embryo failed. :-( Apart from a battered arm and vein, we're okay about it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with pregnyl and IVF/IUI. You are right, pregnyl can give false positives if a HPT is used too early before the pregnyl has left your system.

My FS also told me they used to get the chemical for triggering ovulation from the urine of menopausal nuns before they invented a synthetic trigger such as pregnyl!

I am new to this and wish to share my experience with you all. Normally my cycles are very long and therfore doctor put me on Primoulet to induce my periods.
After starting the periods she decided me to have Puregon 75 IUs for 12 days. When it was the 12 th day of the cycle i went for the scan and found only one egg being developed but it was looking good. Then the same day she asked me to have Pregnyl 5000 iu and to have sex for next 3 days.
after that i was given the same in 1500 iu each on the 17th and 21st dates of my cycle( she called it day 4 and day 8). i did a preg tests from day 26 to 28( 3days) and all were positive. And i noticed few brown spottings on my undies for last 2 days.
Today i did the blood test and waiting for the results. i do not experience any symptoms other than occassional dizz and tender nipples!
Am I pregnant or not? can anybody tell me how long Pregnyl does take to dissapear from a system??

this is my cycle
day 1 is 7 Aug,
Day 3 to 11 : Puregon 75 IU ,
day 12 is 18 Aug : Pregnyl 5000IU
Day 12 to 14 : had sex:cryinglaugh::cryinglaugh:
Day 17 is 23 Aug: Pregnyl 1500IU
Day 21 is 27 Aug : Pregnyl 1500IU
Day 26 to 28: positive results on Crystal Clear
Day 28: few brown spottings
Day 29 is 4 Sep: blood test:pray::pray::pray:

I am too on luteual suppurt Pregnyl support on the moment and I keep on getting the positives and all the pregnancy symptoms I can get. i was told, however, not to get my hopes up as this is normal with Pregnyl.
I've got my test on next Thursday and I'm jsut goign crazy not knwing whether my positives are true

hi all
im new to this all this is my first cylce on ovualtion stimulation, im having a blood test tom day 19 i also need to take my next shot pregnyl 1500. its great news that your preggos:D:D i also had one folicle and taken the same dose. i just wanted to ask if any one has experienced with using the pregnyl ive started getting lots more pimples huge pimples and usual my skin is never this bad??

Hi there, today is my 9th day post et. All this waiting is absolutely driving me nuts especially the symptoms I am feeling. I cannot seem to stop eating, my sense of smell seems to be more acute, I am nauseous, I look pregnant already, by breats are not as sore as a few days ago but I have this annoying dragging period like cramping feeling which is dull and achy. Is any of this normal? I just want to pee on a stick!!! But I know I can't because of the false reading. I am so tired, I want to close my eyes and sleep even as I type this...I think the worse part for me is the waiting and the abdominal pains. My blood test is on the 7th Sept - another 5 very very long days to go. I have been reading lots of sites etc but no one has said anything about increase in appetite. When I feel nauseous I have to eat something and I feel better, I am peeing so much and I am so thirsty all the time. What is going on with me?
Can anyone help please?

Ant good luck with the test in a couple of days, I send you strength to hold out untill then, last month I was 13dpiui and got a false positive,7 days after 1500iu pregnyl. I also was thirsty, peed a lot and was crampy.
I'm now on 2nd try at IUI, my 4th night of puregon 50iu.
I wish you all the best with your journey. I know the wait is agonising.

Thanks for your email and words of encouragement. Unfortunately, I couldn't hold on any longer, so this morning (12 dpet) I peed on a stick and the results were negative. I am hoping that the blood test on Monday morning will show me a positive...but I'm not expecting the news I hope for. My period is due today but so far nothing...so possible that is good news?!?

Ant, I get similar symptoms to you. I am sooooo tired, really sore (.)(.)'s and all of a sudden hunger. Must just be from the extra hormones flowing through our bodies. Unfortunately it can be from a real pregnancy (I was 2ce before but m/c'd) or from what the clinics give us to take. Frustrating to not be able to count on any particular signs!

Still have the dilemma - should I go try a HPT?!?

I know this post is darn old but i was wondering can you get pregnyl 5000 shot and not get pregnant in that cycle that you gotten the shot to make you ovulate?

This month is my first month DR gave me Pregnyl shot on CD 15 where my follicles are good size. He gave me that to ovulate and was told to have DTD 2 days before which is sat sun and also on that day of the shot which is on monday. I so worried this method would be a failure so was wondering if any of u expert can give me some advice.

Sam,
There is no guarantee that you will get pregnant after a pregnyl injection.
All it does is ensure you ovulate. It does not ensure pregnancy - even with timed intercourse.

No it doesn't make you a failure at all! Statistically you only have a 20% chance of pregnancy each month even when everything is perfect, so getting a BFN from an OI/TSI cycle where you used a trigger injection doesn't make you a failure, and doesn't mean something is necessarily wrong. Welcome to the hard world of IF treatments :(. I hope it works for you soon.

I have not heard of someone having a pregnyl injection and not ovulating.

Hi. I have done oi with tsi and a pregynl shot. Blood tests indicated that I did infact ovulate however we didn't get pregnant. Hope it all goes well.
