Just wondering when you can turn the car seat around. Our DS hates being in the car and I think it may be because he hates to travel backwards and that he can't see anything. Our DS is 5 months but was born a month early.

I turned Josh around when he started to support his own head. I think he was 5 months old!
A mate's DH is a traffic cop and in his view (having unfortunately witnessed a few accidents) the longer bubs are rearward facing the safer they are. But if you are facing them forwards neck control is more of an issue than weight, so if a bub is say 8.2kg but still floppy then its better to wait a bit.....
i also went with neck control, same reasons as above, the longer the better but DS was lifting his head up the whole time to look out the window so i turned him around at 5 1/2 months 7.8kgs.
I have not turned Charlotte's car seat around yet and she is nearly 6 1/2 months, I have a safe n sound car seat that i change her around at 12 kgs'. I don't plan on changing her for a long time, she still is small though 6.695kgs.
we have a 12 kg safe n sound too - like I said the longer they are rearward facing, supposedly the better
I haven't changed Fergus around yet either. He's 18months (born almost 3 months early) and obviously by this age has excellent neck control. As he only weighs 7.4kg, I have decided to wait as long as possible before turning him around. Safety reasons. He he.
I didnt change Sophies around till 10 months. We too have the safe n sound. I felt it was more safer for her up until this age.....
What is the weight limit on your seat? It is best to leave baby RF for as long as possible,
Try some toys or something to entertain him..
I turned my first son at 4 months because I didn't know any better. my other 2 sons were turned at 6 and then 7 months, they had reached the weight limit of thier seats. I have a 9kg RF weight limit on mine
Anyways once again RF is safest
Our carseat says it can stay rearward facing up to 12kgs. RAA told us to keep it rearward for as long as possible as it is safer for bubs.
There was a thread on this a while ago... here. Lots of info in it. We waited until K was around 12 months before turning him around.
Seth is 11 months and will be reward facing till he is at least over 12 mths old.
*hugs*

i have turned riley around this week after a dr checked his neck to make sure he had good neck control and to make sure he was heavy enough.
i have a baby love one where you can turn them around anywhere from 8kg to 12kg. riley is a big boy so he can be turned around.
riley was like you son 1timemum where he hated facing backwards.
That thread links to one I created a while back too... The Aussie laws / recommendations are slack in comparison to a number of other countries.
Jordy is nearly 10 months old, well over 8kgs (will be weighed tomorrow), has very good neck control, but no way in heaven am I turning his seat around yet. He has a mirror so the driver can see his face, and plenty of toys to keep him amused too
I too have put off changing Em around to FF from RF. He is almost 9 months now. I will try and persevere till 12 months. I figure its only 3 months more!!
Our DS is four and a half months old and we have just been talking about turning his seat around. He fits all thr requirment but I hadn't heard that RF was safer, can anyone tell me how so?
we had Jordy weighed this morning 10.4kg - and as mentioned we keep him RFing
Wow, that's huge, I had no idea that there was such a safety difference. We will definatly try and hold off. Never even realised the implications. Thanks for the info Angel.
We havent turned Jesse's around yet either.. he's 9kg! His head is pretty sturdy but i want to wait until he can sit up himself before i do it. As the others have said, the longer you can wait the better.
