Feeling like a fatty
Hi everyone, I am 22 weeks pregnant and I feel really quite fat!
All I seem to want to do is to eat, especially toast... Then I crave sweet things after all my meals.. I have put on 5 kgs so far, can anyone tell me if this is normal to put on that much already? I am trying really hard to eat healthily but my cravings get the better of me.....
Any advise?

I put on 6 kg in the first 12 weeks so wouldnt worry!! Most people put on 15-20 kgs and as long as you are eating healthy food other than your cravings you will be fine....I ate sooo much chocolate, had to have it every day after a meal!! I put on a total of 16kg and have lost 13 already!! Enjoy your pregnancy and your baby bump - it reallly doesnt last long!!!
-
I'm 20 weeks pg and have put on 4.5kg which I'm sure is very normal. Last pregnancy I put on 20 kilos, a HEAP of that was fluid so this time I am drinking more to try not to retain as much fluid. I ended up losing all the weight plus another 5 kilos after my DS was born!
So don't worry too much, just have sweet things in moderation. All pregnant women crave bad food!

5kg so far sounds like a great amount to have gained. :) I wouldn't worry at all, I think its perfectly normal.
When I was at 22 weeks last pregnancy I had already gained over 20kg (not joking!).

Belle with the bump - I know exactly how you feel but I dont think you have anything to worry too much about!! By 24 wks I gained a whopping 16kg and felt absolutely huge. I do believe that most of it, (well atleast I hope most of it!!) Is fluid retention. Now at 33 wks I am starting to feel ok about my body, maybe this is because I am getting closer and closer to the EDD and will hopefully lose it all!!
I wouldnt worry too much. You just gotta remind yourself that you a growing a baby and your body will do whatever it needs to make a nice healthy and strong baby.

BellewithBump.
I put on 14kg by 32 weeks and yes felt like a fatty too... well still do but what can you do hey? I can lose the weight after Jnr is born - no point being risky and possibly hurting baby by trying to loose the weight.
I am the same in the sweet department. Especially in the last 2 weeks (when i have been on mat leave) and eating chocolate like it is running out of the world! lol oh well.
I can see the weight but no one else seems to.
I think the best thing to do is not weight yourself. I weighed myself at 12, 18 and 32 weeks and that was it. The figure on the scale tells us nothing .. as long as bub is happy.

Hey thanks everyone Im am feeling better about things now, I woke up in the midle of the night and craved chocolate cake!
I think Im overly concerned because I had lost 15 kgs last year as I have always had been an overweight person, so it is quite hard to see the scales going up again.... But my baby is healthy and that is what i should focus on.....
thanks

Hey Belle
Congrats on the 15kg weight loss. I am the same - lost 13 kgs over the last year and as soon as made goal weight found out was pg. Credit the weight loss with the reason I am pg. I too am trying to keep up my senisble eating habits learned last year, but at the same time as not going to deny my cravings and those occassional treats.
I found having heaps of healthy things on hand like fruit, nuts yoghurt etc stops those mad cravings and if I get through those and am still wanting something then I will indulge in chocies etc.
Good luck with the rest of your pg.

Belle - 5kg at this stage is fine.
You might find that, with your cravings of sweet food after meals, is apparently brought on by carbs. Not saying cut your carbs out, but, if you are living on toast (which i am now BTW :)) it might be giving you more of a sweet tooth then normal.

Hi
You will find that everyone varies in weight gain during pregnancy.
I put on 17 kgs, breastfed my daughter for 6 months, and now I weight less than before I even fell pregnant, my daughter is 8 months old now.
Don't stress yourself out about your weight gain, if you are eating healthily and succumbing to your sweet cravings in moderation then I wouldn't worry. I think there is a lot of unnecessary pressure on pregnant women these days to put on the least weight possible and to only put on a certain weight each month. In most cases this just doesn't happen, I remember there was one month in my pregnancy that I put on 4 kgs and was totally stressed out, but then the next month I didn't put any on, I guess one month may even out the next.
Try not to worry, but enjoy your pregnancy, it's a great experience!

I am having a very fat day today, ok everyday is a fat day but today is worse as I couldnt find a pair of knickers that were not cutting into me... worse is I bought some a few months ago and they are getting a little snuggy now too.
frown... I am refusing to weigh my self as last time I did that I cried for 3 hours...
My breasts are gigantic and iam sure they weigh ten tonne but my clothes are getting tighter in all the non pregnant places.
having said that I just had yet another bowl of icecream and I had to stop myself to have just 1... I dont even like icecream.
being depressed is not helping me to eat healthy..

Being overweight when I fell pregnant, I was, and still am, worried about gaining too much weight. I know I have to gain weight for the babys sake - most of which I hope is the baby growing.
At my last antenatal visit (which was last Friday - 30wks pg), I've gained 8kgs. I had a scan at 26wks and the baby is fine.
Everyone's weight gain is different. Just remember, at the end of it all, there'll be a healthy bouncing bub - ALL YOURS!
Enjoy your pregnancy !

I think this is one of the things we all worry about! It is reassuring to know how varied everyone is. I spent ages worrying my tummy wasn't big enough and then it suddenly popped out and I am worrying about being too big!
All pregnant women are beautiful, amazing things. We are making babies ladies!

Hey delicate dove, congrats on stopping yourself from eating more icecream, i know when I get started its hard to stop!
I am currently experiencing the whole undies getting a bit tighter than usual thing as well..... I am just exercising about 3 times a week and work as a chef twice a week, so I am hoping this will balance out with my bad eating. I do fit in my 2 fruit and 5 veg each day so the bub is getting everything it needs...
Dont get too depressed, its just our hormones going crazy..........
Those damn Hormones!!

I've been wondering about this too - I'm 22 weeks and have put on about 6kg. Seemed like a lot at first but then I figured I put on about 13kg with DD and lost it all in the first month or so. I'm half way now so I've still got a bit of room to move till I hit 13kg again. I don't really want to go much over that if I can help it.
I'm not obsessing over it but I've been quite overweight in the past and don't ever want to go there again.
Sounds like we're all doing OK!
-
I've put on about 5 kg and I'm 12 weeks today. We have a bit of fun with fatty comments at home...eg fatty fatty two by four, can't fit through the bathroom door....it goes on and on.
I'm eating a fairly balanced diet but incorporate the odd bit of junk here and there so I'm not too concerned with my weight gain at this stage.
-
yup I hear ya .. I feel like a fatty at times too and this pg I have put on more weight than my frist with only 7/8 weeks to go, however I am all belly and no weight anywhere else so I am not too bothered about it (well that;s what I keep telling myself esp when ppl tell me how large I am ... very insensitive).
The weight comes of pretty well with BF and lots of walking and yoga, so its all good.
I eat when I am hungry and try not to pig out too much on junk, but at times its hard :)
good luck

I've put on 7kg and I'm 25 weeks.
I think your weight gain is fine! :)
-
I'm almost 22 weeks and have put on 6kg.

Hi, I'm now 34 weeks and I've well, I haven't been weight in the last 3 weeks, but at last count I've put on 8kg's which is a record low for weight gain in pregnancy for me, actually I gained 10kg's in the first 12 weeks, eeek, but I have since had to go on insulin for GD and with the GD diet I have lost two and I don't feel like I've gained any more, but I will be weighed on Friday so we'll see.
At the moment I'm eating fairly much low fat, very low sugar and low salt, sounds hard but you get used to it and since I started on it, I haven't had any cravings, I think It's from all the fruit I eat.
It's sounds like to me your gaining the right amount and your baby will be lovely and healthy for it, keep up the good work, eat more fruit if the cravings are getting too much, it does help :) Take it easy....
