I've been wondering, since being told that we will have around a 45-50% chance of a pregnancy with ICSI, what the rates are for success on the first IVF cycle.... So how many cycles did it take you?

Hi Sarah
DH and i have been TTC for about 2.5 years. Started with Chlomid, than went on to Ovulation induction with Gonalf and and pregnyl. We just did our first IVF cycle and got a positive. Confirmed yesterday with BT. 4th weeks this week.
So yes it can happen. I was just diagnosed with unexplained infertility. I follow a healthy diet, exercise on regular basis and that is it, made no other adjustments.
Wishing you all the best.
Wow, congratulations :D
Sarah you know my history so I won't scare you with telling you my story again but I do know that humphrey, Melbo and Carrie all fell pg on their first cycles. I know there are others, but I can think of them right now!
Hi Sarah,
My first cycle was cancelled before they went 'fishing' for eggs - yup all the needles and then found out I needed surgery...no fun.
So cycle number 2 - which was a full cycle, no luck with the fresh eggs, but the following month, fell pregnant with my frozen transfer.
A pretty good result for someone my ripe old age...
So as the saying goes...you never never know if you....
best best best of luck!!!
Lulu
Me too! I got pregnant on my first IVF cycle. Had a miscarriage at 10 weeks but the IVF was very successful. Hope you can join the first time successes Sarah.
It wasn't our first cycle... there was no transfer with our first cycle. but our first transfer appears to have worked!
Sarah, I did find some numbers for you...
For a woman under 35, one day 3 embryo has a 22% chance of resulting in a live baby. One day 5 blastocyst has a 42% chance of resulting in a live baby.
Those figures were from SIVF from 1998 and 2001. I have no idea what the stats are currently, but I guess it does give you some idea of the numbers game.

OMG BW are you saying what I think you are saying?????? Should I be doing a happy dance right now??????
Sorry guys, a little sidetracked!
Pretty much, Sarah! It hasn't fully sunk in yet - and I need another blood test bright and early tomorrow morning to check that things are progressing as they should, but yep!
BW
CRYING!!!!! I am so so happy for you babe
......
Hi Sarah, Dh and I had been ttc for 6 years prior to IVF ICSI. We were pregnant on the first cycle! After the birth of DD#1 DH and I never used contraception and never got pregnant (we only have 2% chance of conceiving naturally according to the FS). So we went to ICSI again, and again have been lucky first go!
I wish you all the best of luck with your cycle!
Hi sarah my fs told me that one in three fall first go
One in three, wow that's pretty good odds isn't it :)
Thanks everyone for sharing your stories... Anymore?
Yeah it is pretty good.He also told me if i have two embro put back there is a 30% chance it will be twins.Twice the chances so im willing to take the risk
Hi Sarah,
I fell pg on 1st IVF cycle. After TTC#2 for 2 years, I was diagnosed with unexplained fertility. We didn't try any other form fertility treatments. My FS reckons that IVF is the best option for us, and it worked! My first child was conceived naturally. She's now 6 years old. I'm now 34 weeks pg and due next month.
Goodluck with your journey and wishing you all the best.
Ingrid
Me too!!
I'm pretty sure you know my story. Our DD was concieved naturally within the first month, fell prg again 12 months later, again no complications (we did lose that baby though sadly) - diagnosed with a hideous cyst on my ovary and long and painful 12 months and x2 surgeries later decided IVF was our best option.
We had a day 2 transfer and am now 27 weeks prg!
Never thought I'd be so lucky but we were - I wish you the same luck Sarah!
Hey Sarah
My Son Callum was IVF. First time fell with him and also the other egg that was transfered took but was on the overy. It grew then died. So really 2 bubs took first cycle and then the next ET didnt take but the one after that did but ended up ectopic. So really in the one cycle I had 3 pgs. Good luck hun!!
We had ICSI in June last year and we succeed with our first attempt. we now have a beautiful, long awaited (we have been together 10 years- seriously trying 4 years) Baby boy born Feb this year. we have booked in to see the specialist in November this year to organise a frozen transfer and get more info. Very nerve racking waiting. So yes it is possible to achieve gold on first attempts.
I'm glad i didn't see those stats before we tried our cycle, it would have been even harder to wait for the BFP!!!.
On my first IVF cycle we got nothing pick up of 40ish eggys and they all ended up abnormal with the icsi was done so we got no embies :(. But the next stim cycle we had a similar pick up and I fell pregnant that cycle sadly losing her at 16weeks.But then went on another 10ish FET fell pregnant with her sadly losing her at 20 weeks and then going another Stim and FET's 6 times and had Eliza.
LOL so in hindsight we did actually get pregnant when they put something in on the second Stim ICSI cycle

Hi Sarah,
I have POF so had an IVF cycle using DE. Our amazing donor could only produce 4 eggs but the all fertilised beautifully. We did a fresh transfer of 2 embies from which we had our wonderful 5 year old daughter.:dance:They other 2 embies were frozen and just had FET of both of them last Sun...so am hoping I will be as blessed second time around!
I welcomed my embies from the moment my legs were in stirrups  i think positive thinking is so very important. Wishing you the very best of luck!:goodluck:
Hugs,
Claire
My sister in law fell pregnant with twins first cycle (2 day 2 embies transferred) sadly she lost one very early. I now have a beautiful 2yr old neice.
Then she again fell pregnant on her first cycle (for 2nd pregnancy) with a singleton. I was so jealous as it took me ages and lots of pain, but oh so happy for her.
Hi Sarah, I fell pregnant with twins the first go through ICSI (through SIVF) after TTC for 6 months. I just knew something wasn't right so got right onto the medical side of things - didn't really want to waste any time! Then 22 months later we thought things weren't insane enough and we had another go (FET) and fell pregnant again! Now had 5 y.o. twin girls and 2.5 y.o. girl. I feel really lucky and blessed after reading and hearing about such heartbreaking stories regarding IVF. It's nice to hear some lovely positive stories.
Oh oh I can add me the list too now :D First ICSI was a big success for us :D
I too, have had success with my first IVF/ICSI cycle ever. I'm 7 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Saw the little heartbeat on Thursday. :)
I would be really interested in knowing the success rates here in terms of pregnancies on first or subsequent cycles; how many embies transferred etc. Is there a poll function at all?
Hi there. I had my first IVF cycle and we had had two put back and i fell pregnant first go. AND both took we are having twins
This isn't from me personally, but my dear mum had four cycles before she conceived. The first three went really well, they weren't collecting a lot of eggs, but enough so that there could be two transfers, only that they didn't stick :(
Mind you, on the fourth time, after collecting 14 follicles and only one egg, mum and step dad have now conceived and expecting identical twins!
Congrats to those of you with successful IVF stories and good luck to those of you still trying, seeing mum so happy to be able to share children with my stepdad is amazing.
