Songs/Music
I was wondering if anyone has any special songs or music that that they play for their baby (not really nursery rhyme stuff but just music that's special to you)? I'd like to put together a CD that I can just have on in the background during pg as well as after the birth. At the moment a song that really means a lot to us is What A Wonderful World/Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Israel someone-or-other (can't spell his name LMAO!).

I love Gentle Gentle. It is on the McLeods Daughters soundtrack Season 2 It is aimed towards a girl but I love it anyway
chorus
Gentle Gentle
Sing to your child
Your companion for such a long, long time
Beneath your heart
Her heart beats strong
Life of your life
Is safe in your arms
Oh touch her face
You gaver her form
Child of this earth, child of this sky
You are her voice
She has your eyes
This is her gift
The thread of life
Oh give her grace
And give her peace
Let her be strong, let her be kind
She is your soul
And you are her strength
Bless her and guide her
All her life
Chorus
gave me goosebumps just typing it out.

My song to Paris is Gorecki by lamb:
If I should die this very moment
I wouldn’t fear
For I’ve never known completeness
Like being here
Wrapped in the warmth of you
Loving every breath of you
Still in my heart this moment
Or it might burst
Could we stay right here
Until the end of time until the earth stops turning
Wanna love you until the seas run dry
I’ve found the one I’ve waited for
All this time I’ve loved you
And never known your face
All this time I’ve missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs
Wanna stay right here
Until the end of time
’til the earth stops turning
Gonna love you until the seas run dry
I’ve found the one I’ve waited for
The one I’ve waited for
All I’ve known
All I’ve done
All I’ve felt was leading to this
All I’ve known
All I’ve done
All I’ve felt was leading to this
Wanna stay right here
’til the end of time ’till the earth stops turning
I’m gonna love you till the seas run dry
I’ve found the one I’ve waited for
The one I’ve waited for
The one I’ve waited for
Wanna stay right here
’til the end of time ’till the earth stops turning
I’m gonna love you till the seas run dry
I’ve found the one I’ve waited for
The one I’ve waited for
The one I’ve waited for
*hugs*

Awwww they're both lovely :)

I think I have to change the CDs in my car to something more mellow. At the moment, Little Nobba is being soothed by Pearl Jam,
I do, however, have "Songs For Dreaming" on tape in the car. I put it on when I am feeling frustrated. Very soothing. I want to get the same thing on CD to play in the nursery when the baby is sleeping. Will have to have a look for it.
-
Groovy Kind of Love, by Phil Collins...........I "whisper sing" this to Olivia when we are cuddled up just before I put her to bed........it is my favourite time of day with her.........
When I'm feeling blue,
All I have to do
Is take a look at you,
Then I'm not so blue
When you're close to me,
I can feel your heart beat
I can hear you breathing in my ear
Wouldn't you agree,
Baby you and me,
We've got a groovy
Kind of love.
Plus I played loads of Sarah McLachlan, Lisa Stansfield, Norah Jones and Dido when I was pregnant and when we were in hospital together and when we were first at home......and now when I play those CD's I want to cry when I look at Olivia.
-
Thanks for sharing those songs everyone. It's amazing the emotions that a song can bring up!!
-
Oh Cailin
Lamb are my favourite and that is my most favourite song - our little bean is going to be a lamb fan whether he/she likes it or not!
My husband and i went and saw lamb at the enmore - the best live music ive ever seen - did you go
-
I like Paul Kelly and he has just been doing a series of four concerts in Melbourne. He was working through an A-Z of his songs. DH and I decided to go to all of them because it will be our last chance for a while. It was on Monday and Tuesday nights of the last two weeks. It was very loud and the baby moved so much that it either loved Paul Kelly or hated him. I guess that we won't find out for a while yet.
There is one song that mentions a woman getting her husband to feel the baby kick in the night. As Paul sang that DH reached over and touched my belly. It was the sweetest thing, I had tears in my eyes.
I am sure that Paul Kelly will always remind me of being pregnant with this baby.

there is an unwritten law son that I really like which i can see myself adapting a bit to sing to bubs, is called cailin, he actually wrote it about his daughter cailin. the first verse is a bit depressing, so i will probably leave that out!
Well it seemed like yesterday
When the world was looking dark
It felt so cold and grey
And why the hell am I even here
What's the purpose, all I feel is guilt and hate and fear
'Til that day you came along
My heart was empty
Like the soul was missing from a song
And I thought I'd loved a few
No one ever made me feel
The way that you do
Hey little girl
Look what you do
Oh, I love you
Hey little girl, I love you
Well I know I'm not always right
And girl it breaks my heart
When I have to see you cry
So many things I wanna say
Now I know that you're the reason
That I'm here today
Whenever you're here
Just stay near
We'll be alright, yeah alright
Hey little girl
Look what you do
Oh, I love you
Hey little girl
Look what you do, and you do
When all my love starts running thin
I got you my own Cailin
Hey little girl, I love you
I'll be alright
But I need you close
Please stay tonight
As long as you're here
Just stay near
We'll be alright, yeah alright
-
Heather, no I didn't go *wah* I would love to see them though :)
And min, you wouldn't believe the amount of people that ask me if I know that song! And I even had a guy dedicate it to me once awwwwww...
In fact the other day when I was on the phone to a guy at optus he asked me if I knew that song LOL!
*hugs*

Actually, come to think of it, my Dad used to sing; "You Are So Beautiful" (Joe ****er??) to us as babies. We grew up thinking that the song was written for us (or so Dad said! And we allllll believe what Daddy tells us!!). We were devastated when we found out it wasn't written especially for us. Still, it is one song that I will probably sing/play for Little Nobba.
-
I have two- here are the main bits-
Make the world safe for you by the Whitlams (I actually played both of these songs and sung them while I was in labour!!)
I know they all want you
With your Desdemona's eyes
I'll keep you from danger
And shield you from prying eyes
I can make the world safe for you
Come and live over here
I can make the world safe for you
Come and live over here
I can make the world safe for you
Nothing bad'll happen now...
I've got a problem
I think you know how I feel
Plans piling up in the corner
Eyeballing me every hour
I can make the world safe for you
Nothing bad at all
You've got no money
So I know how you feel
When you see the glitter
Turn around it's no big deal
Thats the main part- and the other one is
When I see you smile- It is for my DH and Ryley. I cry when i think of it-
Sometimes I wonder
How I'd ever make it through,
Through this world without having you
I just wouldn't have a clue
'Cause sometimes it seems
Like this world's closing in on me,
And there's no way of breaking free
And then I see you reach for me
Sometimes I wanna give up
I wanna give in,
I wanna quit the fight
And then I see you, baby
And everything's alright,
everything's alright
When I see you smile
I can face the world, oh oh,
you know I can do anything
When I see you smile
I see a ray of light, oh oh,
I see it shining right through the rain
When I see you smile
Oh yeah, baby when I see you smile at me
Baby there's nothing in this world
that could ever do
What a touch of your hand can do
It's like nothing that I ever knew
And when the rain is falling
I don't feel it,
'cause you're here with me now
And one look at you baby
Is all I'll ever need,
you're all I'll ever need
Chorus
Sometimes I wanna give up
I wanna give in,
I wanna quit the fight
And then I see you baby
And everything's alright,
everything's alright
So right...
*sobbing and singing*

Aww girls, you are all so sweet, I have tears from reading the song lyrics. I'm a big one on music too, it brings back so many memories bith good and bad. When I was a baby my dad used to carry me around singing A Little Ray Of Sunshine. So I am told anyway - he passed away when I was 3 months old. So whenever I hear that song I think of him singing to me.
I'm trying to sort out music too to have playing during labour, birth and afterwards, not sure if I want actual songs or just a relaxation cd. What do you think?
Can't say that I really have songs for my boy's :( I do remember that Mabeline was playing on the hospital radio when Brandon was born though.
Take care
Trish
-
Trish, maybe make sure you have enough CDs so that you have both options available to you? You might change your mind about what music you want to listen to once you are actually in labour.
-
My baby boy struggled for his life when he was born, and stayed in hospital for 3 months. A friend gave me a CD which the nurses in the ICU played for him every night. It's called "Bedtime prayers" by Twila Paris and it always calmed him down. This is one of my favourites...
"Perfect Peace"
Do not be afraid little lamb
Trust Him while you are sleeping
Angels over your cradle will stand
Silent watch they are keeping
Think about these things
And love will guide your dreams
And He will keep you in perfect peace
Perfect peace, perfect peace
He will keep you in perfect peace
If you keep your mind on Him
You are never alone little lamb
For the Father is near you
You are tenderly held in his hands
Whisper and he will hear you
Think about these things
And love will guide your dreams
And He will keep you in perfect peace
Perfect peace, perfect peace
He will keep you in perfect peace
If you keep your mind on Him

Sarah, sounds like you are organised with your music. I still haven't got anything. I have a couple of relaxation cd's and thats about it.
One song I am really thinking of even if I don't have it for bubs birth is Isn't she lovely by Stevie Wonder. I think it may be her song :)
Take care
Trish
-
That'd be great Trish :)
I'm still looking for more songs though cos that's just over 2hrs - not sure if I will handle listening to the same thing over & over.
-
How about Beautiful In My Eyes by Joshua Kadison. Or Blessed or Your Song by Elton John. Um... also maybe True Colours by Cyndi Lauper. Those are a few that I've got down on my list.
-
Ooooh good suggestions Angel, thanks :)

music for labour
I've started to think about making a playlist for labour but I have no idea what kind of music I would like to listen to whilst labouring :-k #-o .
I'd really appreciate it if people could tell me what they listened to/are planning to listen to and why it was good/bad.
DH loves RnB, rap and hip hop and not much else but alot of what we have is kind of obscene and I'm not sure that I would want it to be the first thing my baby hears.
-
hi dash
i had some relaxation cd's - like ocean sounds with soft music (got them from Big W for a couple of dollars) plus i made a few cds of my favourite music - for most of the day i just had the radio going & then as labour intensified i got mum to put my robbie williams cd on - well i couldn't stand the sound of him singing & the relaxation ones didn't help either!! so much for my music plans
good luck with your choices - sorry i wasnt much help
-
Dach i played inspiring songs to do with birth like- with arms wide open and thing slike that. I also played my power music (stuff that makes me feel good and proud of who i am)
I will see if i can find the cd and let you know :)
I must admit playing music and singing while in the bath was what got me through my contractions without pain relief
-
Hi Dachlostar
I would suggest that ypu paly any music that you want. It does not matter what DH likes. Also your baby has already heard your music so playing it in the labour ward is not a problem.
-
I had relaxation music playing. Not sure what it was because it was the hospitals.(nice of them to offer though because i forgot my own)
-
I had Enya playing the whole time. My dh changed it to Riverdance for a little bit but I wanted my Enya back on. I still trance into a world of my own when I listen to it so I think I will be using Enya next time round too. Best bit is it helped DS calm down when he wouldn't sleep in the first couple of months.
I have an MP3 player now, so I wont have to listen to just one CD on repeat.
-
Dach,
My girlfriends got together and burnt a CD of songs that reminded them of me, pitty I had a planned c-sect that they didn't know about..lol
It makes me laugh and cry and smile as all the songs have a significant meaning and I hadn't heard them for awhile.
They did however also throw in a CD of my fav songs and relaxation. Maybe get a CD and get friends and family to download some songs and don't listen to it to you get to the hospital, it might take your mind of labour...always take a back up though cause I ended up with a tad too much of Peter Andre 8-[ !!!

I'll be listening to my hypnotherapy CD's (but not till I need them LOL won't use up all my resources at once ;)) as well as the music CD I have that goes with the hypnotherapy... can't remember the name *argh* will go get it later... I tell you when I'm sitting unless its god damn urgent I'm in no rush to get up (good ole' Pelvic instability LOL). ANYWAY... other music might be Gorecki (Paris' song) and Gabriel (Seth's song) by Lamb, probably alot of Lamb actually, and some sigur ros I think thats really nice music. Maybe some delerium. I'll try to stear clear of lyrics if I can just cos it may bug me (I know delerium & lamb have lyrics LOL).
*hugs*

Dach, just locking this one cos we have a great thread about labour music here.
-
Well I must say that I was quite happy with my playlist leading up to & after Zander's birth. I played it to him before he was born so he'd get used to the music & it would help him fall asleep afterwards.
My only problem was that I couldn't hear it at the hospital cos they had it turned down so low :( Personally I think I would have preferred it blaring LOL!!! I actually only found out recently that it was playing all day, I had thought someone turned it off about lunchtime, but I wasn't in the frame of mind to ask for it to be put back on/turned up LOL!
-
Sarah, I made up a CD for when I was in labour with Charlie, but it all happened so fast we didn't get round to playing it at all!!
But I was in hospital with him for a week and played a lot of John Mayer, Van Morrison, Micheal Buble and Robbie Williams (Swing) Phil Collins and (cringe) Rod Stewart......and now, the minute Robbie Williams (Swing) comes on our stereo, Charlie gets so excited! He jiggles around on his mat and starts clapping!!
-
I never actually thought about playing it afterwards in the hospital Lucy.
Do you think for a planned c/s next time I'd be able to have music? Or is it all quiet?
-
I honestly don't know about whether they let you have music on in theatre. I think so? But I am not sure....
But I would totally recommend the music for afterwards...those days in hospital I found so peaceful and special and cosy and I would just sit and gaze at Charlie whilst he slept with lovely music on in the background.....makes me clucky.......
-
My DH made a DVD of pics of our DD & the songs in it are "Isn't she lovely" Stevie Wonder & "Little Ray of Sunshine" by Axiom. We play it for her all the time & she LOVES it
Isn't she Lovely
Isn't she lovely
Isn't she wonderfull
Isn't she precious
Less than one minute old
I never thought through love we'd be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn't she lovely made from love
Isn't she pretty
Truly the angel's best
Boy, I'm so happy
We have been heaven blessed
I can't believe what God has done
through us he's given life to one
But isn't she lovely made from love
Isn't she lovely
Life and love are the same
Life is Aisha
The meaning of her name
Londie, it could have not been done
Without you who conceived the one
That's so very lovely made from love
Little Ray of Sunshine
Her father says she has to have a name,
Not the same as her mum's, but a name just the same
A little ray of sunshine, has come into the world
A little ray of sunshine in the shape of a girl
I wanna know if you think she looks good in the pink
Her grandma has bought her, our own little daugher
She can make you feel good,
Shen can make you feel that it's all worthwhile...only by her smile.
Have you noticed she's just like her father,
I think that I'd rather, her hair was much darker
A little ray of sunshine has come into the world
A little ray of sunshine in the shape of a girl
We'll show her the dress that she'll wear with her gold flowing hair,
That nature provided,
A little ray of sunshine, has come into the world
A little ray of sunshine in the shape of a girl
I love 1927"If I could" I have told him that's his next project
