I am up to 31 weeks and my fundal measurement is that of a 36 week gestation baby....so I'm going to have a growth scan in a week to see what the baby's approximate weight is and amount of amniotic fluid.... My diabetes test came back fine so its not that. My ob:redface: said it is lucky I am choosing a caesarian to birth this big bub!
Ohhhh, Good luck with the u/s. Not long too go and you can have your baby in your arms. If the baby is that big you may not last the full 40wks. When are you going to have the c/s. Have they given you an idea?
My fundal height with both Harrison and Madeleine measured much higher... I was told with Madeleine to expect a 10lb+ baby, as James was 9.5lbs... I was also told that Harrison was going to be a big baby too... Madeleine was 7lb 9oz and Harrison was 7lb 10oz.
Fundal height measurements are not an exact measurement... they are more often than not way off.
The scan will provide you will closer estimates. BOL :)
I'm booked in for the c-section at 38 weeks, so I have 7 weeks to wait.

Come to think of it, I was told my first born seemed to be a great big baby and he was less than predicted at 7lb 12oz. I think I have a lot of amniotic fluid......
I was told my dd was going to be a big baby, she turned out to be 8pound 3ounces. She was 56cmlong. Through a tough labour ended up with an emergancy c/s. Only got to 8cm diaated and wasn't getting any further. Was pushing from 4cm dilated. All the best for your big day.
Fundal height isn't directly related with baby's size and I know many Obs who dont even take measurements for that reason. Fundal height changes with the baby's position, the amount of fluid, length (as opposed to weight) and yes, size can be a contributor but not often. You may find you go backwards with measurements so don't be alarmed if you do. Bigger babies are not harder to birth... in fact many women I have spoken to (including my mum) said her bigger babies were easier to push out! Even scans can be innacurate especially the later ones when baby's genes have taken over, they are not going to be average - they will be more or less than it and that all makes for an average...
csab sounds like your babe might have been posterior, you can get a premature urge to push with possie babies and they can also end up c/s as they get termed 'failure to progress' sadly. Optimal fetal positioning is a great help and keeping off the bed.
They had said that the baby was in the right position, but she had been stressed thru out the labour, and I had also started to close. They had done a couple of stress tests on her and as they had indicated to them that the baby was far too stressed that we had no choice but to have the c/s. My dh and I class her as our miracle baby as we had two m/c's before her, and yet she was the most hardest of all my labours. My labours tend too go on for a long time. Never thought she would ever come.
Awwwww yes I just noticed your signature, I bet she was a true blessing for you. You may find your next labour is shorter, first labours tend to be like that... slow and drawn out.... but now your body knows what to do and will take shortcuts ;)
My hubby is tall, about a foot taller than me, so maybe bub is going to be long....
I have been eating HEAPS and have put on at least 20kgs so far in this pregnancy, but apparently this wouldn't effect baby's weight...
Will be interested to see what the growth scan comes up with next week.
Kelly - She was my 3rd labour, then had my other DD 13months to the day after by emergancy ceasar as well. Didn't want to risk it. Especially with all the complications. The labour with my youngest had started the same way, with the heart fluctuating like crazy.

I Was Just Going To Say The Meaursements Arent Always Right When Pg With Jess They Were Only Out About A Cm And When She Was Born She Was 12 Pound 8 .hopefully If There Right Its Lucky You Are Having A C Section.beleive Me
Jessabell - whoa! 12lb 8, holy hell. Vaginal birth?
Berry - my FH was measuring consistantly 6 weeks ahead with my last pregnancy and my baby was 9lb 1oz. So, it was showing that I was having a large baby, but anyone could just look at me and tell that, my tummy was much larger than with my other pregnancies. My first baby was 6lb 14oz so a big difference. FH isn't usually accurate, neither are scans. The last one I had (32 weeks) was the only accurate scan I've ever had, it showed a larger baby and to expect one over 9lb. I went to one of the best scan places in Australia though.

Hi Berry :hello: - I find myself in a similar position to you - at my 33 week checkup this week I'm measuring for 41 weeks....!!! However I too will be having a CS this time so it's not so much of a worry, provided all is well with bub at the US. But geez I"m feeling it already...
I was told to expect a small baby with DD#1... she was 4200grams
DD#2 and 3 were always measuring right on or just under in fundal height and they were 3880 and 3750 respectively....

Berry the same here, both our girls measured 2-4 weeks higher in the fundal height checks. Both came 2 weeks late ;) BUT the other thing was Jovie had a scan 2 days before labour & she measured 10lbs 11oz!! She came out 8lbs 13oz so not as big, but very tall. Both my girls were around 55cm birthed so they took after their parents & were tall :) The u/s measures the bone length to give an approximate weight which is just silly when you have tall parents ;)

I had an u/s today that put the baby's weight at "9 lb 12 oz, plus or minus a pound". So, IF that's correct, I could potentially have a 10lb 12ox baby. Hmmm :-)
I think I'll wait and see.

Gosh sounds like me in with the Ob when i had my DD#2 recently.Both my babies were 10pnd 6oz and they were born vaginally. I was lucky to escape though with only bruising and 4 internal stitches after a four hr labour with DD#2. DD#1 well that is a different story all together. Too long to post!
Anyway i was always told i was going to have big babies and i was thinking what is big? now i no! Sometimes scans and all of that are not acurate so don't feel worried too much.
I agree with Shannon there on having Big babies as well. But good luck with it all and i am sure everything will be just A ok! Make sure you let us no how it all goes.

csab i was induced i was two weeks later and not once did anybody say she was going to be a big baby.even the doctor who saw me and a few days before i had her .but my labour was 6 hours and two of them were pushing her out as you could imagine
Jessabel - Gee that would have been a nightmare. Having 2 pushing her out. One thing I have noticed with my babies they have all gone up in size except the last one who was 2wks early.
1st 5 pound 7, 2nd 7 pound 5, 3rd 8 pound 3, 4th 6 pound 12. They ranged from 48cm to 56cm in length.
mine were all different mine were 9pound 9 8 pound 9 and 9 pound 2 and then jess .lately i noticed the babies are getting bigger its not often that people have little babies well thats around here anyway.
I am actually dreading, if I fall pg again the size of my next one. hehehehe.
My fundal height as of yesterday was 21 weeks and I am only 17+5. The number of pregnancies, position of baby, amniotic fluid volume, build of mama are all factors.
My babies have all been 9lb + except for DD3 who was 6lb ish. Her birth was no easier than my big babies. I didn't tear with my DD4 or DS6 either.
If you don't have an illness our bodies rarely grow babies too big for our bodies.
