OUCH! Ovulation pain????
Just wondering if this is normal? I'm on my 4th day of Puregon injections (had 3 so far though) & I'm having an ovulation type pain on the right hand side... It's pretty painful in that I'm walking a bit hunched over so it's more comfortable. Sitting I am ok, but changing positions hurts. Also I went to pick Zander up & I couldn't cos it just hurt too much. Any ideas? Is it normal? Is it just a sign that my ovaries are responding to the Puregon?
It's not an horrific pain, but not something I want to have to deal with every day up until the transfer which could still be 10-12 days away.

Sarah does it feel a little worse when you go to the loo? I find my O pain kind of increases from the relief of pressure then it fades back to a dull ache again.

Sarah,
It sounds like the puregon is waking those little eggys up, It may get a little more uncomfortable as the amount of folis that are emerging are at a bigger amount to what usually happens during normal ovulation. Fingers crossed there are many but not too many folis ripening in there for you. The bliss of IVF lol there is no better feeling than the morning of pick up.

Going to the loo made a bit of difference, thanks for that Sam!
Thanks Bec, good to know it's normal :)

i was going to suggest the same thing Sarah - normal cycle, you have one maybe two follies, during AC you can have a whole lot more! and if you're having a good response (which i'm guessing you are considering you're moving to u/s on wednesday) it's possible you have a good number of follies on your right ovary - not fun, but all for a good cause!
hope it isn't giving you to much grief - take care
-
Can I take panadol or anything for it? Will it help?
-
Sarah, you can take panadol, panadeine or panadeine forte during a cycle without problems.
I had a similar pain at the beginning of my time on puregon - I'd been on it for 5 days and it was the day of my first blood test. I was doubled over in pain at work and had to go home because it was so bad. Turns out my levels were still really low at that point, but I'm convinced it was my ovaries starting to respond as my levels shot up after that point... may have had something to do with doubling the dose, but I'm still convinced that the pain was things starting up.
If you're at all concerned, be sure to call the clinic and check with them.

I never got a huge amount of eggs, Sarah, 10 at the most but I was uncomfortable during every cycle, except the one which got cancelled. Same sort of thing you're describing, and by the time I triggered, I was walking hunched over like quasimodo. Yet others, like *Tam*, could get 17 eggs without feeling anything! Sounds like it's all going well, though! Wooohooo!

Sounds all too familiar! I had 17 follies on my left ovary last week and was feeling it from around day 3 of injections. By the time it got to the day before EPU, it was extremely uncomfortable to bend over, sleep on my side/tummy. Sometimes it would be a dull ache, and other times I would get a sharp pain. I would say the Puregon is definitely working. :)

Just as an analogy Sarah, your ovaries are swelling from the size of almonds to roughly the size of lemons, so yeah ouchies is a good sign that it is all going to plan. Panadol helped me a lot during my stim cycle....I tried to save the codeine for after EPU cos I knew I would be super sore from that.
-
Sarah,
All sounding waaay too familiar here too!!!
I was like Sushee... hunched over like crazy by the time I was due for EPU!!!
The greatest thing about it is that you know its working :D
Make sure you keep up with your water... Even if you drink a little less, you will feel it more (well, I did anyway ;)), so keep up with your water intake!
The other thing I did find that helped a little was a hot water bottle... just make sure its not too hot - Just warm enough to be soothing.
My hot water bottle & I had a very serious relationship throughout all of my IVF cycles... ;)
Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

good sign if unsure always ring your FS

Is it extra sore after EPU Mel? I can't take codeine, I hope there is some other option if I need it ???
And thanks everyone, good to know it's all normal :) Poor Zander is going to feel a bit rejected with me spending less time wrestling him on the floor LOL!

Hi Sarah,
I was always told that right up to EPU, i could take any of my pain meds (for my migraines) including ibuprofen etc.
At EPU i was given opiate based IV meds for pain, and then no more ibuprofen, because of the bleeding issue that those pain killers can possibly cause. Just Panadol, Panadeine Forte etc from then on.
I would check this with your clinic but i think you will find, that right up until EPU, you can pretty much take anything.
Oh, and my heat pack was my bestest friend!!

Sarah, I had a sore tum for about 5 days after EPU. EPU last Wednesday, and only today am I feeling almost normal again. As far as pain killers after EPU, I was told Panadol or Panadeine. They made a point of telling me no nurofen. It really will just depend on how you come out of EPU. Everyone is different I guess and some have a more straight forward EPU than others. First stim cycle, I was in a bad way and Panadol made no difference whatsoever. This time I took both Panadol and Panadeine at different times and I was ok.

Sarah
It sounds like things are happening down below! Excellent stuff.
Mels description of almonds to lemons really sums it up hey. WOW ;)
Yeah also you may be sore after EPU, I was this time and the FS said it could be from blood (not endo blood) irritating the ovaries after EPU.
Good luck for your scan on Weds. Is DH going along too? They can get him to fill out the follie sizes for them. My DH loves doing the maths!

ps I am a big fan of wheat packs for pain and comfort

Sarah...I was probably in a bit more pain after the EPU but it was more a tenderness kinda like a bruising and pain when moving in certain positions IYKWIM and was certainly tolerable...I too used the heat packs one on the back and one on the front but only until transfer...dont want to upset the embie snuggling in there. You should be fine with panadol and if necessary there are other non opiate drugs that the FS can prescribe for you...that's the only thing really - you will need to make sure you discuss with him what you can take in the way of strong pain meds if you are allergic to codeine. Don't wait till you are in that kind of pain, there is nothing worse than being in pain at 2 in the morning and knowing there is nothing you can do until the doc gets in at 9am. I would make sure he prescribes something suitable JIC...better to have it and not use it than to not have it and need it.

Thanks guys :) The clinic have all of my notes with the allergy to codeine marked down, but I'll be sure to remind them again on the day of transfer.
I'm not quite so tender this morning. Is that normal for it to be on & off pain? LOL you can tell I'm new to all this ;)
