Weight? How much?
Hello my fellow bun cookers.....=)
My question is this.
I am into my 21 week now and have gained 11 kilo date.
Is this too much?
I had no morning sickness so I ate well from the beginning.
I also ate lots of naughties in the first 3 months with my hormones etc being out of whack.
My cravings have settled a few weeks back....but now I graze all day, mostly good, nutricious food.
How much more will I put on on average?
What have you all put on to date (around 20 weeks)???????
Thanks

Hi!
I have put on 5kg to date! but i really haven't experienced any cravings or desire for lots of food.. am just eating normally! I was overweigt a bit to start with too, so they say that makes a difference.... i dunno ! BUT i have heard that you can put on up to 20kg by the end.. depending on your body type etc! I wouldn't worry too much, especially if your Dr isn't! generally you end up loosing most of it after a few months! we hope! :)

You know what, as long as you are healthy, bub is healthy & everything is going to plan I wouldn't worry. I hate how some doctors put so much emphasis on how much weight we gain or don't gain during pregnancy. We are all different & there's no right or wrong amount as long as bub is getting the nutrition s/he needs IMO. Overweight women tend to put on less, underweight women a lot more and some in between LOL!
As long as you're not eating junk food all day every day & having lots of fruit & veges I wouldn't even think about it. By the time you get to the end of your pregnancy you're carrying several kilos of baby, placenta, retained fluid & extra blood, all of which goes pretty quickly.
-
There was just recently another thread about weight gain in pregnancy, and a good number of us gained more than is "recommended", had normal healthy babies, and lost the weight again after. As the PP mentioned, just make sure that you are eating healthy food, eat until you are full (not more), drink plenty of water, get a little moderate exercise (a nice walk or a swim, maybe), and after that, don't even worry about the scale. If you're healthy, your baby will be just fine. BTW - I put on most of my weight in the first part of this pregnancy. the weight gain has slowed down a fair bit in the past month or two. I gained about 16.5 kg total so far, and lost .5 kg last week.
-
My dr said they usually like to see a 10kg gain approximately if you aren't extremely overweight etc. Because I'd been sick before hand I was very underweight she wanted me to go from 64kgs to a minimum of 80kgs by the time I pop as I'm 6ft tall and medium build. This is for ME though and MY situation, your dr should advise you what's best for you, as long as your healthy and bubs is fine I don't see how an extra bit of squish would hurt :).
-
I have only put on 8kgs all up :o
I was 74kg the day the DR told me i was pregnant and at last check (10days ago) i was 82kg, Dr says should would be happier if i had gained a little MORE!!!!
Go figure anyways so long as bubby is healthy i'm not to fussed it's only weight and i'd rather know bubby is ok then worry about me putting weight on.
-
I am heeaded towards my 19th week and I have only put on 1kg!!! I didn't have any morning sickness nor any crazy cravings or needs for large amounts of food. I saw my OB last night and he weighed me and didn't say much about it. So I presume such a small amount of weight gain is ok too!!
-
I didn't start to gain any weight till about 20 weeks then plop on it went hehe
-
Thankyou all for replies.
Carley I think I was looking for reassurance from someone like yourself.
We seem to have put on the same weight in the same amount of time.
I quit smoking 5 years ago and put 14kilo on !!!
I started on 51kilo as I always had been and then went to 65kilo.
I managed to lose it then DANG! I fell pregnant.
Due to the hormones etc and no sickness I have put on 10-11 kilos already and only at 21 weeks.
I was concerned that I am ballooning at an alarming rate and apparently, as you put most on in the last trimester I was clearly getting worried.
Just wanted to hear of others have put on and if there were any the same as me.
=)
Yes I am trying to enjoy the pregnancy and keep telling myself that I will go back to normal after.
I have always had a very toned, slim, model type figure and I guess I'm just finding it hard.
Sorry, not meaning to sound vain, just being real.
-
I'm 20 weeks and I have gained 7 kilos so far. I was about 5 over my normal weight to begin with though. I am only just starting to feel like eating normally again so I am hoping to slow the weight gain a little as I would like 15-20 to be my max. I gained closer to 40 with my last pregnancy and it took me 5 years to lose :(

I have gained alot of weight with each of my pg's 1st around 30kg's 2nd around 22kg's and 3rd around 18kg's. I am just over 17 weeks and haven't weighed myself (i'd rather not know) I feel like i have put on between 6 and 8 kg's.
For me it just piles on and it can be really stressful.
Don't worry you are not the only one.

I remembered when I was around 20 weeks, my Ob was telling me that my weight gain increases rapidly! I think at that point, I gained around 10-12kg. As I got to my third trimester, my weight gain is pretty steady. These past few weeks, my weight gain is like 0.1-0.3kg... I guess it depends on the individual.
-
I seem to put most of my weight on in the first tri, this is my 3rd and each time I start freaking out because I gain weight within the first few weeks! it slows down for me from about 17weeks and then I only gain a few kgs till the end BUT I have to watch I don't use the pregnancy as an excuse to over indulge because i've found it hard to loose the excess weight after baby's born.
I do think it has alot to do with your bmi as I'm only 5ft and average about 13kgs for each pgcy. So far I've gained 7kgs, I gained 6kgs in the first trimester and just 1kg till now (24wks).
I've learn't to just listen to what my body is telling me if I feel too full after meals I know I've over done it and if I'm starving all day and can't seem to get enough food then I know to just go with it as it's pbly a growth spurt and within a few days it slows down again.

So far I have lost 12 kg but I have noticed that I have been the same weight for the last 2 weeks. Im overweight already and my ob said that sometimes bigger girls don't put on much weight during pregnancy but this is not a hard and fast rule. I think my job helps keep it down, Im a teacher.
-
I'm 20 weeks, so far put on 8kgs. Last pregnancy I put on 20 kgs (i'm 5 foot tall and average size) and then lost 13 kgs in 3 weeks after the birth - baby, placenta, fluid, fluid, fluid! I wouldn't worry provided you're eating healthy options, drinking plenty of water and doing some gentle exercise. The occasional 'naughty' is 'nice' too!
-
I'm obese. I admitt it. With Kat I was 'Overweight" and put on over 25kgs. I lost prob 10 os so of that after birth. Then I fell with jess (almost straight away) and I REALLY watched my diet and what I ate and I gained 5kgs total. I lost all that when I had Jess. This pgcy I am 7kgs heavier than after I had Jess (creeping weight gain) and I have to date lost .5kgs since falling pg (not that I am obsessing over how much I gain, I just don't want to have to fight a losing battle. If I can avoid gaining, I will). Bubs is healthy and a week or more ahead of dates in size etc. I am just trying to watch things now. If you are healthy and active, then you shouldn't worry how much u gain. Dieting is a no no during pgcy as it deprives bub of essential nurtients. Having said that, pgcy is not a ticket to eat whatever u want constantly (I thought that with my first and hence I ballooned! I also quit smoking then too which didn't help!). A good healthy diet and regular gentle exercise is the key.

I think I've gained around the 8kg mark, I'm almost 27 weeks.

Thaks for replies everyone. I guess we are all 'normal' in our own way.
I am 5' 6". Usual weight being 51-54kilo, a slim/muscley build. I am 23 weeks now.
At last check I had put on 14kilo. This is my first pregnancy.
No morning sickness at all but cravings so I went nuts, not realising how quick it could go on.
My daily diet is as close to prefect as you could want. All healthy & low fat.
BUT...the cravings I have given into inbetween, the snacks are what has done it.
I exercise on an elliptical strider very gently for 10 mins per day. Not enough obviously for the calorie intake.
The past week since posting I have really tried to have willpower against snacks, which I had non of in the first 20 weeks (willpower that is).
Bubba is apparently 'big', but then so is dad.
Gone from DD cup to an E cup....I guess all adds up!
Will just take it easy from here. And work hard afterwards =)
Good luck girls!
-
my mum put on 40kgs with me :o hope i dont put on that much hehe! im 24 weeks and up until about 20 weeks i had only put on 3kgs or something, then in 4 weeks i put on 5kgs! no idea what i weigh atm, will wait about 3 weeks til my next antinatel appointment!!
and i have gone from a B cup to a D cup lol!

Hi Nell
At my 25 week Ob appointment, I had put on 12 kilos all up. I am sure I've put on more now being 28.5 weeks! I eat reasonably well but if I feel like something naughty, I'll have it for sure!
I thought 12 kilos was a lot at 25 weeks but my Ob wasn't too concerned. I have known some girls to put on 30 kilos during their whole pregnancy.
I wouldn't worry, as long as Bubs is healthy, that's all that matters. Makes you struggle though with the extra weight though doesn't it!! I can't believe the shortness of breath I have sometimes!

Hmmm i'm 20 weeks now and think i have gained between 10-12kg's.
I was already overweight beforehand so i know that in the first few weeks after bubbies born i'd like to work as hard as possible to lose it, because i know our bodies are designed to lose it soon after birth, it just depends how hard we can make ourselves work.
My trouble is my BB's. I've gone from a 12E to 14H. The reason i was overweight before is because i can't stand the backpain i got from not having the weight in my waist hips and tummy. So whilst i'd sat at 60-65 for years it wasn't worth it for the pain and at least with the weight in my tummy it hurt a lot less. Now i'm worried i'm never going to be able to slim down again because my bb's are so disproportionate to the rest of me!
I'm sure things will all work out, right now, im just doing what i know is best for me and bubby, and ill worry about weightloss later.
-
OMG Ashnant!!!you poor thing... BB's is the one place that i am loving me weight gain! gone from a just filling a B cup to nearly popping out of a C Cup.
I had my 20 week appoint on tuesday and i hopped on the scales (my OB doesnt weigh me nor does he say that i should worry about weight) as i wanted to know. DH was there and so he weighed himself too and we weighed the same and i am nearly a foot shorter than him! AHHHH
DH is really supporting about it and says that i am just protecting the baby - Mum gained loads in her pg's
I am watching a bit more carefully what i eat now as i was over indulging the last month or so, was using the pg as an excuse to have more naughties than i should!
I have been a bit depressed as a couple of girls have fallen pg round the same time and have hardly any weight gain (and eat way worse than i do!)
I guess different bodies handle the pg differently
Oh yeah - DH and i have a one year rule - if i have not lost weight one year after giving birth he is going to get a cattle prod! at least he doesnt have unachievable expectations 1 year is a good time frame!

Hi all.... thanks for replies.
I have figured out a solution!!!!
DON'T WEIGH YOURSELF!!! LOL.
Went to anatomy ultrasound at 23 weeks. Ob didn't seem too concerned but said to cutbread right down. Also milk and cheese.
Have moved onto skim milk (no fat) and 1 piece of bread per day, maybe two (wholemeal).
Am exercising for 30 mins at lunch (walking at work) and 10 mins on elliptical strider.
And not weighing myself now.
*Bindy, the shortness of breath has started to kick in...and yes I'm sure the extra weight doesn't help.
*Ashnant, I feel for you. Other women are always saying wish I was bigger, but girls...if you are big, you really don't like it. And you can't wear lovely little string strap tops, or go bra-less. I have whiplash from a car accident I had in May when I was first pregnant and I'm sure that the BB's don't help. The back ache I'm getting now (pinching in lower back) is terrible. I can't walk sometimes!
*SammieJane - Don't let it get you down. I too got depressed about it that's why I posted here as it was really bothering me. Just do your best with what you eat now and when you have bub, do your best again to exercise and eat healthy. Ask hub for support, you'll both be happier.

I'm with you nell71, I don't want to know how much i have put on.....
My back has been bad too which makes it so hard to exercise, actually going to the gym today (haven't been for 2 weeks as could hardly walk)
Glad you have a supportive ob, with my other 3 pg i was weighed every appt which was really hard as 1st dd i put on 30kg and my Dr gave me such a hard time and didn't believe me when i was telling him what i was eating, which made it worse.
I go through stages at the moment, of not eating much one week then the next week i am hungry all day. I'm just trying to enjoy the pg without worrying.
-
Ok so I was already over`weight (by a long
-
sorry about that my DD was sitting on my lap and managed to post before I was finished typing LOL. Anyway as I was saying I was overweight by a long shot and so far I have only gained 700 grams lol. The last two I averaged around 11 kilos... but both of my babies have weighed in at over 4.5 kg's born.
-
Just measured myself - I am almost 20 weeks (saturday). I have put on 5 kilos.
Not too bad I guess, but I also ate lots and still eat lots - graze all day every day at work, Im always hungry and it doesn't help at work - every few weeks its a b'day or something and food everywhere!
-
Ashnant - I too am busty! Im sure they weigh a kilo or so. With my first DS I went from a size 14D to a 14E. Now at 20 weeks I am a size 16E.
I dont know if I will be able to breastfeed as they are HUGE! I hate it so much.
I am not tall either, small boned. I would love to have a reduction afterwards!
-
I started at about 68 kgs and last month at the OB's I was 74kg. I was about 22 weeks last month and had been the same 74 kg the month before.
My home scales though have always read a bit heavier. I've noticed in the last week that I seem to be alot bigger in my legs and arms - so I'm expecting my OB visit next week will be alot more... Oh well, plenty of walking next year when Ascher is born...
-
Caz1971 - I was worried about breastfeeding also, but for some, odd, but apparently normal reason, i've been "lactating" since about sixteen weeks and everything seems ok so far, so hopefully shouldn't have too much trouble... I think i'm thankful our little "surprise baby" has happened because i was going to have a reduction before i had babies, which may have meant i couldn't breastfeed, so at least for the first time i know i have a better opportunity!
I haven't put on anymore weight since 12 weeks, i think its more of that im losing old weight as im growing or something...
-
With my first I put on a total of 27kg.
I'm at week 14 and have only put on no more than 1kg so far, but I've put on more size around my hips than I did at this stage last time. Weight isn't everything.
-
I'm just on 23 weeks and I think I've put about 6kgs from my normal weight. I did lose 1kg with m/s so I've put on 7kgs in total. And probably 5 in the last month (not my fault, I went to visit my mum and was feed every hour!!)
My ob said ideally put on 0.5kg a week. But who knows what I'll end up at 40weeks. My friend hardly put on anything at 30 weeks but at the last months she was putting a kilo a week and ended up with 20kgs. She had her bub in Feb and has lost 10kgs since (and she couldn't bf).
-
Hi,
I put on 25kgs with my DD, 8kgs with DS1 and about 15kgs with DS2. I am only 4 weeks so i wonder how i will go this time round!!
