Mission Accomplished - Surgical removal of Endo and bowel resection....

I have had my surgery last week ..... (I am not sure if you were interested but just thought i would let you know that.....) Yes I am alive and kicking and in VERY FINE FORM!).

I would like to say a VERY VERY BIG THANK YOU :clap: to my BRILLIANT SURGEONS.... :clap:I can only thank the powers that be that we were destined to cross paths as you have definately changed my life for the better!!!

I am back at home after having significant endo excised and a bowel resection.... I am feeling pretty AMAZING considering what they had to do!!!:D

We have even been given the go ahead to start :ttc: by my wonderful doctor :doctor: Pre-Op my chances of falling pregnant were 0% and POST-OP now are 60% in the next 6months!!!!!

Well I hope everyone is well :D I am certainly feeling pretty good :D Can't ask for much more than that .......

Also well done on recovering from the surgery sooo well. It is a tough thing to go though............but if it's any consolation, my labour was a breeze compared to the endo surgery I had.....!

Thanks so much for your encouragement and support.

Went back to my specialist today and he has given me the all clear with the biopsy and that there was no cancer either thank goodness. So hopefully its clear sailing from here and yes you never know we may hear the pitter patter of little feet in the near future :D

fantastic news! i had my last (well hopefully last) appointment with my bowel surgeon today and found out i had a double re section and my appendix was also removed... hmmm would explain why i had such a tough recovery!

I hope you recover well. How much bowel did they remove and was it small or large intestine?

YDI I am glad to hear you have had your last visit to the bowel surgeon. Sounds like he had a big job when he operated on you and no doubt that contributed to the longer recovery period. I hope things are getting back to normal for you. It definately sounds like they took a significant amount of bowel in your case. How long has it been since surgery?

In answer to your question they removed part of the rectosigmoid if that makes sense. The peice they cut out was tested and returned positive for full thickness endo (of the peice removed) but atleast it was only endo and not cancer. They were a little concerned because of how far the disease had progressed. When they went in they found it affected and joined pretty much all my lower abdominal organs. Ureter, uterus, overaies, fallopian tubes, completely occuluded pouch of douglas and bowel. The endo did not involve my appendix unlike you but I lost my left fallopian tube (the involvement was just to significant to be able to save it) and they had to perform a cystectomy on a 3cm cyst in my right ovary. They removed all endo from the cul de sac and uterosacral regions and then sewed me back up once they had removed the affected part of the sigmoid and resected.

I was in hospital for a period of five days. The end of day one/begining of day two my bladder shut down from the shock of surgery and end of day two I had an x-ray and found the lower part of my left lung had collapsed. (I think it was just my bodies way of dealing with the significance of the surgery) I had a fever and very low blood pressure.... they gave me two days of intraveinus antibiotics and fluids .....by day five I was up walking around and well enough to go home :D It was nothing less than an miricale how quick my recovery has been. My bowel has mended well (though I am a little constipated).

I now feel I am well enough to return to work three weeks after surgery. Which is half the amount of time I was originally advised by my doctors prior to surgery. I have to give the credit to my two surgeons and the grace of God for blessing me with such a quick recovery.

thats fantastic what a great recovery!
i had 40cm of small bowel removed - resected in 2 places, my appenidx removed and endo removed from bladder. POD, ovaries and tubes. whoa what a mouthful!
i was in hospital for 11 days, and was off work for 2.5 months and even when i did go back to work i realsed i went way too early... its only now at the 4 months mark that im starting to feel human again. i had chronic dairrhea for the first 3 months that i could not leave the house. it was somehting i never ever want to go through again...
im on synarel now and therefore going through a faux menopause and am now on HRT as well. Kind of weird being 25 and relating to people going through this in their later stages of life!

anyway it is all getting better slowly, am so glad you are doing remarkably well! congrats!

I'm gonna need urgent surgery as my blood test showed raised ca125.Two yrs ago had same thing, it turned out to be hamorrhage cyst & had laporoscopy. Gp said could be same thing again or worse ?ovarian cancer or else.Not sure where you are, I'm in Melbourne. WOuld appreciate your comments if you see this note.Thanx heaps.Nena

Just a quick hello,

Hope your doing well and have found a good surgeon. My surgeon is in Sydney - so I don't know if you would want to travel. But if you want the details of who he was I am happy to email them to you.... just need your email. He is a well known Sydney surgeon and I know atleast a few of the other ladies on the forum have been operated on by him and I have not heard anything but praise. I can say so far so good. My recovery once I left hospital was relatively smooth my cycle was out of wack for about two months after but it seems to have now sorted itself out....

I can't believe that you (YDI) only being 25 and have had to got through so much, I am nearly 21 was diagnosed 1.5 yrs ago with Endo, this sounds terrible but I hope that I don't have to go through all of what you ladies have had to.
It makes me feel fantastic though that I have found this website so there are other people to talk to and share experiences with.

Glad to see you found this forum. I know how I felt when I was first diagnosed and it was really good to be able to talk to other ladies who had been through treatment and could give me an idea of what to expect and what my options were along with my specialist advice :D

well i too hope that you dont have to go through half of what i have had to! im still suffering from the side effects of the surgery and the faux menopause but no thalf as bad as the agony i was in prior to surgery. i guess you just become numb to it all - my pain threshold is definitely a lot higher than the average person lol! my intestines still have not settled down and im praying that they will soon and i wont be stuck like this! (bowels are all messed up)
