OK.
What i would like to ask is if any of you ladies are able to describe what the pain of a contraction feels like?
I know we all feel them differently but the reason i ask is My dh really upset me a few days ago when we were reminiscing about my labour and he said that he honestly thought i was a bit of a wuss!! :( I didnt think so and the pain i felt with the contractions were pretty intense.
I just wanted to somehow tell him what they felt like so that he understands.

Hmmm, you do forget don't you! I would say kinda like period pain (not that that helps DH!) erm...really bad cramps where you can't catch your breath and the pain floods through you from your head to your toes.
Does that make sense? HTH!

first of all I think I would slap my DH if he said I was a wuss :)
the way i describe it to people is this.. you know when you kick your toe and it hurts like a B**ch. Well times that by 100 and slowly build up the pain over 18 hours :)
or the pain you get when you have a tummy bug...
I felt like slapping him!! My mum was there when i had my DS too and when i told her, i think she would hav liked to also!:

I would have to say that the pain was like nothing else I had ever felt before.. It was enough to make me feel physically sick (although luckily I didnt actually spew!). The pain made me feel very short of breath. And the actual pressure of the contractions was probably worse than the pain itself because it felt like I was being crushed.
I cant really compare the pain to another pain though.
Having said that, it was also exciting, LOL.
I did not have contractions :lol: - bub came to early.
My gyne told me that it would feel like AF cramping
A friend of mine told me that it feels like being constipated and having terrible diarrea tummy cramps at the same time. I can only imagine!
To me they felt like someone took a clamp and was tightening it then loosening it then repeating it over and over again harder and harder.
*pucnhes your DH in the head* Sorry sweetie, I can't explain the pain but it was soooo intense, and soooo not what I expected. He needs to have a baby THEN he may say you're a wuss!
Tell him to imagine someone is reaching inside his scrotum and giving his testes a chinese burn, and just as the pain dies away they do it again. And again but for longer. And again but sooner and for even longer. Ad nauseum (until he's sick) and then some more until he thinks he wants to give up right then and there, and then he has to push and strain as an orange comes out through his penis. Yeah fun. Wuss....?

If my DH said that to me he would get a real good punch in the face!!! I was induced so they came on fast & strong from the very start & I was not prepared for it. I remember yelling "I can't do this" after only an hour as it hurt soooo much. But yes I will too do it again. Walk up to him when he's not expecting it & just kick him between the legs...when he squeels like a girl just say "felt worse than that" & walk away!!!
I wonder if he has ever broken a bone, or dislocated something? I ask because I have, and it was the kind of intense pain that made it difficult to breathe, and that made me nauseated.
So like this ... over, and over again. Ask him to imagine having his ankle broken every five minutes. And THEN, at the end, trying to do a poo that is so large that he can feel his sphincter splitting and tearing apart.
And if he's still unsympathetic after that, I don't know what you could do ... :D

LOL Erin, that would be an idea.....i want another bubba eventually though lol!! I actually cant believe he had the guts to say it, let alone right to my face. I felt as though i could have got quite vicious!!
Schmickers= i will have to ask him if he has, thats actually something i still dont know lol.
These descriptions are great, when i tell them too him i might just get treated very nicely:D

Yep, I agree with all these but as well as suffering through all that I'd add that (because my labours were all so long) the exhaustion was like running in a marathon. My whole torso kinda burned like muscles do when you have to keep running whether you like it or not. So, tell your DH to try to run a marathon with a watermelon lodged in his colon and with people fussing all over him trying to attach IV drips and monitors and telling him that if he doesn't push out the watermelon someone will die! Oh and he also has to have regular examinations of his anus to see if the watermelon is crowning. I'm sure he would deal with it all just fine....

DH was very amazed and loving to me after my c/s. He was lucky enough to be present. I was fully sedated, because it was an emergency c/s. He almost fainted twice and had the world's respect for me afterwards. Telling everyone how they streched me open to get to dd and how he now knows me inside out :lol:
Mind you, it only lasted two weeks, but that two weeks was HEAVEN
Actually my labour pains really DID feel like a chinese burn on my cervix! I agree with the broken bone analogy to an extent, but it's just all that little bit more distressing because it's your genitals. I mean, i've broken my wrist and i didn't feel embarrassed about the 2 doctors, 3 nurses and 1 radiologist who examined it, but 6 strangers gazing up my vagina!! No thanks!

So I think it is unanimous your DH needs a slap upside the head!!!!!!!
So overwhelming that I couldn't talk or concentrate on anything that was happening around me because I'd lose it. Why would they offer women soooo many drugs if it didn't really hurt too much.
