I suffered from a lot of headaches, and generally just felt really flat. Lacked energy and didn't sleep well. The good news though, is that once you start injections things improve a bit. I found the Synarel in my first IVF cycle the worst part of it all.
Good luck! :)
Absolutely dreadful! Constant migraine-type headaches. Extreme congestion, and just generally awful! To add insult to injury - it didn't work! More than likely because of hayfever and sinus problems, the congestion stopped my body from absorbing it properly.
We switched to lucrin (injections, and a bit more expensive), I still had the headaches and the feeling kinda blah aspects, but not as badly as with the synarel. I had more in the way of hot flushes and muscle pains, but that's probably because it was actually working.

lil chookie, I spent 3 months on Synarel before we started with IVF and I had headaches and migraines. Some days my leg muscles would ache, I was horribly emotional, felt like I was forever crying. When I wasn't crying I was angry/upset, so had the mood swings as well.
Also had some hot flushes like BW said.

Hi Chookie,
I was on Synarel for a few weeks in my first cycle, and I didn't actually notice that many side effects: some hot flushes, and a few headaches and general tiredness. For me, it was quite manageable.
Vicki
I was Synarel for about 3 weeks and like Pookiegirlba I really didn't suffer from any symptoms. I think I had a headache only twice and it wasn't that bad (certainly not like a migraine). I had a lot of symptons when I had the Puregon injections, but found the Synarel to be no problem.
Hope all goes well for you.
My wife was on synarel on her 2nd cycle and she did not have a good time. Headaches, mood changes, difficulty breathing, etc. We switched back to Puregon in the middle of the cycle.
Of course, I aknowledge that 80% of that was psycological and due to stress. Having said that, she was fine with Puregon .
cheers
whyere do I begin I suffered light headedness , massive mood swings, incredible hot flushes, night sweats and weight gain of which I still cant budge. Actually all the symptoms of menopause.......... IT sucks and Im not looking forward to doing it again........... Goodluck with it all xoxoxox
due to hayfever I did not have the option of synarel and instead am on lucrin injections. i think lucrin is more expensive, but I personally have not found the injections too bad and apart from tiredness (but that could also just be the time of the year), I have not had side effects yet...but I'm only on day 6.
Synarel turned me into a homocidal maniac for the first few days, then after that it was just a general feeling of blah and some headaches and hot flushes.
The physical side effects I could cope with....the mood swings were another matter. I tend to be a fairly hormonal person and suffer from massive mood swings when af comes and prior to ovulation, and that was what synarel did. And the stupid thing was, I sat on the train on the second day after having a massive tanty in the kitchen and tried to figure out what was wrong with me. Didn't even occur to me that it might have been the synarel, even though I knew it was a side effect. Dork!
I found the first few days on synarel a lot harder than many other aspects of the joyride. But not everyone does...lets hope you are one of them :)
I suffered anxiety through my whole cycle, it is hard to say what drug caused it or if it was the psychological side of it or a mix. Other than that no specific probs.
Hi,
I'm new here, I too found the synarel quite manageable a mild headache once or twice but that's all :)
Hello there, I'm new too and I've only been taking Synarel for a week now. It's really quite awful! Syptoms so far - one panic attack in the middle of the night (anxiety, shortness of breath, nausea), regular nausea, bloating, complete loss of libido, crying fits, hot flushes and feelings of aggression. I don't know if the world can cope with more of me in this state! Very glad to hear that it gets better.

just like a couple of gils here, I have to admit that it was pretty manageable, nothing out of the ordinary?.you expect some symptoms here and there with all IVF drugs, but at the end of the day it depends from person to person??just go with the flow and don?t ponder too much on it, you will start to cause symptoms because you are constantly thinking about it or you are expecting it.
Wishing you all the best?.
I've done one round of synarol and I am about to start on it again for my second cycle of ivf. I did get quite a few side effects from it although they took a few days to really gain intensity. I had quite a lot of headaches and some hot flushes (particularly at night!) but the worst was probably the mood swings. I don't know how my DH puts up with me!
Then again, I feel like its been such a long time (almost 18 months) since my body was actually "normal" and not on some form of drugs/stimulation that I almost forget what it is like NOT to have side effects and constant mood swings!
Like others have suggested, do not dwell on the side effects. Think of them as a means to getting what you want! And I was always relieved to have some side effects (however horrible) because at least then I know that the dugs must be having some effect! (I become paranoid if I think things aren't working! :) )
I have found the synarel to be very manageble, which I could do cartwheels about because I was worried!! Puregon injections started today and I don't do so well with those so the next couple of weeks are going to be tough. I am hopeful that if I push myself for an hour gym session early every morning it will help me get through and I won't feel so sickly.
Good luck, LC. I find that the puregon makes me feel extremely fatigued, so there's no way I'd be able to push myself to the gym for an hour each morning! I hope it doesn't wipe you out the way it does me.

...................
I know what you mean Futuremum - I can handle all the side effects in the world, what I can't stand is all the waiting around and the emptiness of not having children!
BW - I was on a much lower dose of Puregon with my IUI cycles and it made me feel less that average. But going forward with positive thinking at the moment, I am just going to make sure I eat well, get plenty of sleep and keep up the exercise routine and that should help with how I feel (is it positive thinking or wishful thinking LOL!!)
Hi all,
I'm on my second IVF down reg cycle. The first time I had no side effects at all from Synarel, in fact I felt better than I had in a long time! Puregon made me a bit weird though. But this time, Synarel has given me really bad headaches and migraines, and I'm EXHAUSTED all the time! I've been a bit teary too, but nothing too bad. Thank goodness I'm starting Puregon tomorrow, at leat ssome hormones might calm things down a little!
x Kate
I didn't really have any side effects from any of the IVF drugs..but then maybe if you ask DH he would tell you something different hehehe! I wasnt online at that time and only read the leaflets once or twice...so i didnt really know the symptoms or expect to feel the way they said i might feel. I worked fulltime and kept my mind occupied while i did two full IVF cylces back to back... so my point is.. sometimes its better not to know :)
Every body is different...so hopefully you dont feel too bad throughout the journey. Best of luck!!
We are now in the TWW.......one beautiful embryo was transferred today and we have 7 snow bubs waiting for later! After looking like this cycle may have been bust due to non responding to the Puregon, it has all worked out as well as it could of by this stage. Afrter so many years we sooooo hope this is the one :)
Good luck LC!!
I also found I was a bit of a nutcase on synarel, nearly lost my mind in a maccas line one day and couldn't work out where the rage was coming from LOL!
Hi everyone,
I'm 29 and i am day 3 of using syneral for IVF.
I'm the most highly strung anxious worrier in the world... I panic about every single thing...
I have noticed today though that i feel completely 'normal' almost emotionless??? Is this common? i have no anxiety, don't feel worried, not panicking... I imagine i feel like i have been jabbed with a massive dose of tranquiliser (i never take any medicines for my anxieties to know) i am just so so so calm...
I have a 2 1/2 yr old daughter who plays up to go to bed and i don?t even feel angry that she is running around being a cheeky monkey :-)
It feels lovely to feel so 'normal' but i cant help thinking its something to do with the syneral and switching off the hormones?
help?
anxiousmommy :-) xx
i have just started synarol and would like your help does it delay your period or could i be pregnant 1 day late please help me
Lisa - it can delay your period so I wouldn't read anything into it yet. Give it a couple more days and then contact your Dr if AF still hasn't come. Having said that there are instances where people may get pregnant (according to my nurse) because the Synarel does something to their system but they don't know exactly what :dunno:.
thanks for your help will let you know what happens
:p:D:)
hi,
i took synarel, and suffered claminess/hot flushes the first few days, then the headaches come every day....yuk.... and head spins too, bonus!
however things have improved now i on gonal f injections, however still get headaches though! Nurses tell me synarel mimocks the symptoms we will get during menopause....
See what we all have to look forward too...
I was a bit headachy at first, but that stopped after the first 3 or so days, and I didn't get any more side effects.
I think I'm lucky, I don't seem to get many side effects from any drugs that i've had to take so far (knock on wood . . .)
I actually didn't find the Syneral too bad - it was worse towards in the end of the treatment - maybe because it builds up in your system? I am not too sure...
It did give me some lil headaches and tiredness - but as I said not in the beginning..
Goodluck with your cycle...
Rach xx
I can't believe I wrote that, because time round the last 3 weeks have been 3 of the worst of my life. I cry......all the time, I am paranoid (constantly - I actually think the man who loves me more than anything in the world & who would never hurt me is going to cheat on me......just stupid), I have HUGE anxiety attacks (daily).
I can't wait to be off these drugs...........this is the last time, I can't live like this.......it is AWEFUL.
Lil_Chookie, I am sorry you are having such a tough run this time with the Syneral.
My sister who was just recently on syneral had a pretty tough time too, worse than her last cycle. She felt incredibly better once she started on the stims though as it balances out your hormones (or so I believe).
It would be worth chatting to your FS if you ever need to down reg again and ask about Lucrin, which a lot of us find less symptomatic and easier (a small painless jab). Also there are Antagonist cycles where you don't need to use either.
I hope you are doing ok, and vent away about how crap Syneral can be if it helps.
xx
hope things get better for you soon lil_chookie
syneral made me soooooooo EXHAUSTED and very teary. i had very bad headaches when i first started sniffing but then it seemed the headaches settled and the exhaustion and tears kicked in lol
like dusty said, i felt heaps better once i started injections
hope things start to settle down for you soon hun
take care xxx
