..strip washes!
Please tell me what nappies can and cant be strip washed. I have the following:
GreenKids pocket
BBH magic all
Monkey Doodlez
Bubblebubs
Cute Tooshies
Pea Pod (my offending very smelly nappies thats making them all stink in the pail bucket..and still not smell nice after a wash)
I think thats all the one i have...
Also wats the 'mixture' for a strip wash cos i cant find it..and im going outta my mind with dumbness today!

I stripwash everything except PUL. So pockets, AIO, and covers can't be stripwashed coz vinegar will wreck them. It will eventually ruin elastic too, so don't do it too often.
I think the mixture is something like 1/2 cup of bicarb in the wash and 1/4 cup vinegar in the rinse? I can't remember. I got it off the BBH website at one stage, but I don't measure it any more, I just hazard a guess. hehe.
-
Hmmmm so all my nappies cant be strip washed..LOL...how handy :P
Oh except my Cute Tooshies....! But i can put the boosters and inserts in for a wash?
Thanks Liz :D
-
When I did a strip wash it was different to Liz' method.
Got this from NC:
Pre rinse them first, then do a hot wash with no washing powder but put in one small drop of dishwashing detergent (morning fresh etc) then do an extra two rinses (ie they will have 3 final rinses). Check the last rinse to be sure that the water is suds free.
They come up clean and fresh :D

Ta Sammi ill give it a shot... :)
-
I did Sammis way last time and it worked a treat! I agree about the peapods...yucko
-
I think ill be saying bye bye to the pea pods actually..LOL
-
hmm whats up with your pea pods .. are they the old sytle pul ...
and i only ever strip wash with washing up detergent ... works a treat
-
I've got the new ones, and they suck. The elastic has gone in them, they leak every where. They're only about 12 months old too. I'll keep the inserts and just ditch the pockets I think.
-
really , i just bought 5 large ones becasue all the meds are waaaay too tight around nix's legs .. but i dont have any other issues ...
and i have had a swaddlebees aio pocket thats only 3 mths old and the elastics gone in it .. not a big fan of sb right now ( it was over $30 for 1 nappy :()
-
ooh! I never knew that strip wash! Thanks Sam! That wouldn't ruin anything at all - yay!
What do you classify as a hot wash tho? I've read PUL can't be washed hotter than 60? That's what I normally do as a hot wash.
-
A hot wash for me is 50 deg cos that's the maximum my HWS goes to.
Had a thought Kimbaz, do you have any other hemp nappies? You could try a different booster like microfibre or bamboo. I find that hemp is smellier than bamboo.
-
No other hemps....maybe i should but some new boosters and see how i go..ta :D
hottest my water goes to is 55
-
omg I can't tell you guys how excited i am about this strip wash with detergent LOL. This means I can do it a bit more often.. since vinegar isn't the kindest thing on our nappies :) yay!! Am setting it to stripwash over night now LOL.
-
MODS is it possible to have a sticky for different strip wash methods????
with more info such as what how hot is a hot wash, what temps elastic and PUL can be washed at?
its something we all need at some stage and a sticky with differnt methods would help!!
-
i'm just about to do my 1st strip wash using the hot water and dishwashing detergent method... can I put all nappies and boosters in there?
I have mainly itti bitti snap ins, sew ins, a few BBH and a few happy heinys?
-
-
What temp does your HWS go to? If it has a 50 degree limiter then everything can go in. PUL doesn't like temperatures over 60 degrees.
-
i've just done a strip wash using the detergent method, however, the water doesnt have any suds in it during the 1st rinse... does that mean I am finished? or did I not put enough detergent in?
-
Do another rinse just to make sure. I only use 1 small drop, so you should have had plenty in there.
-
Do you use hot or cold for the rinses?
-
Hot tends to remove it quicker and more efficiently.
-
Ok, thanks. Just hope there's enough hot water left to finish it ;)
-
With the detergent strip wash....I read somewhere else that that method will only help if the nappies have lost absorbency, not if they are stinky, is that the case??
And to do the strip wash, do you normally wait til all the nappies are clean and dry then put them thru again???
-
Is it Bi carb that removes stench?
Dunno, I have only strip washed in detergent.
I am sure someone more helpful will come along.
-
To remove "stench" I try some canestan rinse in with them ;) That seems to do the trick.
-
I have found it removes stench Helen, but then it depends on how bad they are I guess.
I use canestin rinse too and it's fantastic :)
-
can you use canesten rinse on everything?
-
-
Canestan rinse is an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal liquid rinse that goes in the rinse cycle.
Is it ok for PUL??
-
Called Baby Beehinds. They said dettol rinse/canestan rinse is ok to use with PUL.
-
great thanks Ezz!! I wasn't sure about the dettol one because it has eucalyptus in it
time for a strip wash here me thinks :)
-
well I was just about to start a new post and thought I would quickly check this thread and it answered all my questions. We have just had a really baaaad batch of thrush and poor freds bot was sooo sore. we've been using sposies while it cleared up with the creams but before I put her back into the MCN I wanted to strip wash them and use a canasten rinse. Now I know exactly what to do :)
Thank you everyone for this information - it rocks
-
Has anyone here done a strip wash of BumGenius nappies? Do you use the dishwashing liquid, hot water and three rinses as well? And can you strip wash the covers or just the liners?
-
hey rooey - i would do both. baby beehinds has how to do strip washes on their website under advice hub.
-
How often do you do a strip wash? and what do you use for every day wash?
-
I actually did my last strip wash with wool wash in the pre wash, nothing in the wash then canestan in the super-rinse.
we do it once a month or so, if they are getting stinky (we have a big stash though, so they stay fresh for ages)
-
So how do you ladies wash your cloths for a normal wash? Hot water? No powder or liquid? Add tea tree oil?
-
if i am not being lazy i will add some bi carb but if i forget or get lazy then 1/4 of a scoop of detergent.
