Book Marks!
Do you use one or do you turn the corner of the page down?
I have stacks of them as I haaaate having my pages dog eared, drives me nuts. BUT I got a new very very cool book mark for my birthday on Wednesday so the rest are going to be left on one of the bookcase shelves!
Here it is, it's a Swarovski crystal on the top & soooo cool :D
-
Very Nice sarah!!!!
I hate dog ears also but dont tend to use bookmarks as such any piece of paper etc liying around recipts are a common thing!
I loose book marks but have just got one that goes on side of page with a magnet either side so hope not to loose that!!
-
Aaron does the same, receipts or usually scratchies LOL!
-
Very nice!
Most of my bookmarks are postcards from the free postcard stands LOL! Like yours better though
-
Sarah, that is beautiful.
I am like Marydean. Free postcards, or my library has free bookmarks when you check out books.
And my DH just folds pages. I hate it too...
-
i use bookmarks, usually whatever I have at hand though. to and from work its normally a train ticket.
-
i can't stand pages being turned down, so always use a bookmark of sorts - usually, it's a narrow post it when i'm at work - then i can mark where i'm at on the page as well - i'm a shocker for reading the same thing a dozen times between calls at work!
gorgeous book mark sarah - i'd be scared i was going to lose it though (most of my reading is done at work!)
-
ooh, very nice Sarah.
Nic

Ooer that's a gorgeous bookmark Sarah :)
I'm the same, can't stand corners turned down or when people bend the spine of the book all the way around!
My current bookmark is a standard one I got from Singapore with my Chinese horoscope on it and a red tassle.
-
I'm a book mark girl ;)
My mum bought me a beautiful thick card-like one when I was in my teens - a Taurus one, and it was infused with essential oils associated with the Taurean sign.
It has been my book mark through hundreds of books (and it used to leave the smell through all of them, too, which was lovely).... kind of lost its scent about 10yrs ago though
I would love a new one exactly the same, but have never seen anything even remotely the same.
All of my Harry Potter books have Harry Potter bookmarks - I'm a bit of a freak that way!
I easily get caught up in the hype with things like that ;)
Your bookmark is beautiful, Sarah :D
-
Use anything that's near, stubs, tissue - anything, but I would NEVER fold a page. I SOMETIMES use the outer cover's inner flap, kwim. But only for the first few pages.
And then I remember numbers. Currently I am busy with a Wilbur Smith and have no bookmark, but I am on page 247. :)
-
What a lovely bookmark Sarah.
I try to use bookmarks, but Logan thinks it is hilarious to take the bookmark out and hide it, so most of the time they're reciepts or I remember the page number, or if Logan has just stolen my bookmark I just keep flipping through until I find where I was up to. I hate dog ear pages, it's a pet peeve, irritates me almost as much as seeing people attack books with hi-liters or bending the spine so the book is folded over. Yeah I'm a fusspot :p
-
Oh yes, me too Melinda, bending the spine gives me cold shivers!
How do you guys remember the page numbers??? I could go three days between reading sessions & there is no way I could remember a page number that long!
-
I buy bookmarks but usually end up using whatever is handy.
I usually try to read forward to an easy number to remember if I don't have a bookmark something that ends in 5 or 0 or an easy number like 44 or 66.
If I don't remember I just flip around the area I was in until I find where I was up to.
-
My current bookmark is about as useful to me as a chocolate fireguard.
Olivia made it for me, and it is really cute: her handprint and a poem, laminated. And I love it.
BUT every morning Olivia will come into bed with us, and see my current book, with the bookmark in it, on my bedside table, and grab it OUT OF THE BOOK and say "I made this for you Mummy"......and my place is lost again.......
-
Sounds like bookmarks are a favourite toy of everyone's kids LOL!! My new one is definitely being kept up high, would hate for my crystal to be broken!
-
i refuse to go anywhere without getting to the end of a chapter - i'll spend an extra few minutes at work in the arvo so i'm at the end of a chapter before i go home! makes it easy if, for some reason, my book mark goes walk abouts! when i DO get to read at home, i do the same thing. at the moment, i've got four books on the go - two at work, two at home. i pick up whichever one i'm in the mood for at the time - so reading til chapters end is important otherwise i'll get confuzzled about where i'm at!
-
Oh yes, definitely have to finish the chapter before stopping here too. I drive Aaron nuts, saying no no I can't do xyz yet because I have 3 pages to go first!! He just stops anywhere.
-
Oh I hate it when reading on the train you have a page or two to go and you get to your station... Drives me nuts. I have to get home or into work and finish the chapter...
-
I used to collect bookmarks as a young girl/teenager...still have them stashed away somewhere in some box.
I currently use one that Gabriella made me for Mothers Day last year at daycare, I would be devastated if I lost it so only use it at home.
My DH used a bookmark until he recently lost it (our trip to Europe last year) that he has had since Yr 3 or 4 at school with his teachers comments still on it. He is 34 BTW, and now cannot bear to use another bookmark using receipts instead. Amazing the sentimental value behind a simple bookmark.:)
-
I think I'm going to become a bookmark collector, I can see I have a new obsession. Not that I use them much, I read obsessively but always just remember where I'm up to, and very rarely use a bookmark. I hate pages being turned down too, it's sacrilege!
Sarah, that is beautiful and devine, I love it!
-
Yeah, I usually use my library receipt, or some other receipt, sometimes an old envelope... I've never had a nice bookmark! Sarah your book mark is so purrdy!!!
I can just stop anywhere as well, I don't take much notice of chapters, I do like to finish a paragraph but thats about it...
*beep beep* watch me leave this thread!
-
I have quite a few book marks, but have stopped using them since I got my Swarovski one. And so much for keeping it up high, it's always down & has been dropped a few times with no problems.
Leash, don't you get frustrated finishing in the middle of a chapter, don't you need some sort of closure? or is that just my analness coming out?!
*BEEP BEEP* byyyyeeeeee
-
:p
no i just finish a paragraph... tbh i dont even notice the chapters at all!
*beep beep* just letting everyone know i'm leaving the thread again
-
I suppose it depends on the book too. I'm reading one at the moment that kind of has chapters, in that it has sections from 2003 and 2006, but within those sections are letters & stories IYKWIM. I can easily finish a letter or story in there, but wouldn't stop halfway through one.
-
when i'm reading at work, i use a post it to mark what paragraph i'm up to (for some reason, customers just won't wait!) - but when i'm at home or whatever, i read to chapters end - i have to!
was hving GTT the other day and looking at the clock to work out if i could squeeze another chapter in before i had next BT! lol
-
Hahaha I do that too BG, flick a couple of pages to check chapter length if I'll have time to start that chapter!
