This is just a bit of fun and I'm testing my ob's theory that women usually have babies up to/around one pound heavier than their shoe size.
For instance, if you're a size 7 shoe, you'd expect a baby between 7-8lbs.
Was that true for you?

Sorry to disappoint you Fiona but I am size 7.5 and had a 6lb 7oz baby
I am shoe size 8.5 and my DD was 8lb 13oz. So in this case, the theory is right here!
I am a size 8 and i have had a 7lb 4oz, 7lb 7oz and a 8lb 3.5oz....
Hmm.. My feet are around an 8 or 9 (depending on type of shoe) and DS was 8 pound, 2.5 oz...
interesting..
I'm size 8 1/2 - my bubs were 7pd8 and 6pd8 (although he was early!). So it doesn't quite fit for me.
But I think your ob is probably on the right track, that woman generally make bubs that are "right" for their size. This is why it's a bit ridiculous that women are constantly being told their bubs are "too big" for them to birth.
I am a size 8 and I've had a 9lb3.5oz, 8lb8, 9lb8.5 and a 10lb1 baby so only one out of 4 for me LOL.
Mine are 7 -7.5 and Izzy was 8lb13oz so not true for but will see how we go with her brother! :)
I'm around an 8/9 shoe size and my DS was 7lb15oz.
He was a week early.
I've never heard of this theory before. It's interesting.
I am a size 7 and have had about 3.5 kg babies so I think thats about the 7.5 to 8 lb babies ( sorry really bad at converting )
I hope thats true, coz my shoe size is 5!!
I hope it's not true lol My shoe size is an 11 !!!!
My babies have been 9lb 1, 8lb 15, 8lb 8, and 9lb 7, so im hoping this one continues that trend, not your ob's lol
Lea x
not true for me i am a size 10 shoe and
Jason was 3 kg 624 gram
and
Marcus was 3 kg 632 gram
Sorry have no idea of conversions
EEEP!!!!
im a shoe size 9,9.5 or 10 (depending on brand/type of shoe etc)
my 1st was 8pound 10.. (and was 1 week overcooked to the text book/med people and right on time for me & my dates)
Wow, never heard of this one before ;) ... Hey, might be some truth in it  ... I'm a shoe size 7.5 and my daughter was exactly 8lb
my shoe size is 12! so i hope not :( lol
Does it only work with Aus shoe sizes? I'm an Aus 9, (EU 40), and Oliver was 7lb 6oz.
size 7 (now a size 8 after pregnancy) and had a 8 pound 7 bub, so i guess true for me!
I am soooo glad this wasnt the case with me!
I am an 11 in shoes sometimes a 12! OMG it would have been a todler when he came out!lol!:cryinglaugh:
Myles was 8lb2oz!
My ob said when she saw my feet "oh big feet easy labour" Well i proved her wrong in that too haha1
Mine were 7lb 4oz and 7lb 12oz
And shoe size is 9
interesting
Not true in my case. Thank god. I am a size 11 shoe. Harrison was 9pound.
Jeepers, some of you girls have massive feet!
My shoe size is 6, my bubs was 6 pound 8. My mum takes a size 5 shoe and I was 5 pound 10, my sister was 5 pound 8. My sister takes a size 7 shoe and her 2 babies were between 7-8 pounds, so in our family your OB's theory is totally correct.
Ummm... I don't think so lol
My shoe size is 4.5..... DS1 was 4lbs 2oz and DS2 was 10lbs ....
Just a little bit out with DS2 lol!
My shoe size is 8 1/2 to 9. DD1 was 7lbs 13 oz and DD2 was 7lbs 14oz.
I'm size 7-8 depending on shoe & DD was 8lb 13oz. I dont mind having another DD's size, I loved her chubby chops hehehe. I think childbirth hurts with any size baby IYKWIM :)
my foot size is 9 and jess was 12 pound 8
i wish she was 9 pound
How very interesting! I am a size 9 and Thomas was 10 pound 6 oz born....
Totally not true in my case - I am a size 9.5 - 10 and DD was 2.485kg, which is about 5 pounds.
I have size 10 shoes and DD1 was 9pd4oz. So correct in my case!
I just hope that the trend is reversed this time as I have DD2 due this month and I want a slightly smaller baby this time!
I'm a 8 1/2 to 9 & DD was 7pd3oz.
I'm an Aussie 8.5 (according to the conversion chart I used) Canadian size 10. My babies have been 6lb14oz, 7lb10oz, and 7lb8oz. Not true for me.
What I have heard, though, is that your babies will be close in size to your own birth weight. I believe my birthweight was 7lb6oz, so that's true for me!
My shoe size is 9 - 10. Usually 10.
DD1 - 7lb 5oz
DD2 - 8lb 9oz
DS - 8lb 7.5oz
My birth weight was 7lb 1oz & DH was 6lb 1oz. I don't really think you can count on either of those theory's.
i am about a 9 in shoe size, my dd was 7lb 30z but 3 weeks early, my DS was 8lb 10 oz so not to bad
My birthweight was 6lb 12oz a week over.
OK, my original post may not have been clear enough. He wasn't saying that your baby will usually be between your shoe size and one pound heavier, he was saying usually less than, the same or UP TO one pound heavier than your shoe size is the norm.
I've been interrupted a few times when doing a count so my maths might be slightly out, but using that as a guide, this is what your posts have shown:
Of the 58 babies reported in these posts, 48 were less than, the same or up to 1 pound heavier than your shoe size.
Of those 58 babies, 10 were more than 1 pound heavier than mum's shoe size.
So I think it's a fairly good guide. But that's all - a guide.
BTW - I'm a size 5.5 and DD was 8lb 10oz so on that basis my ob said I'd done extremely well because she was big for me, but Divvy OMG, he would have given you a medal for sure girl! Mind you, he had told me all along that he thought DD would be between 8-9lb just from feeling my tummy. Didn't tell me about the shoe size thing until after I gave birth though - I think he didn't want to scare me!
I'm a size 6 and my DS was 6lb 5oz so spot on for me.
My birth weight was also 6lb 4 oz :)
Sorry to dash your theory but I wear a size 9 and my two babies were 6lb11 and 7lb7. I'm glad I didn't keep to the theory - a 10lb bubba OUCH!!!
I love these theories- helps me pass the time :D
OK so the theory is (I have pregnancy brain so I hope I got it right!) your baby will be no bigger than one pound bigger than your shoe size (but smaller too). So size 7 shoe can expect a baby anywhere up to 8lbs.
So with a size 6 foot, I can expect a baby no bigger than 7lbs if your obs is correct! That would be lovely! :D So many people (who have no medical background) have told me I'm going to have a huge baby . I'd love to prove them wrong.
I'm a size 6 shoe and had a 5lb 11oz baby
