Mel (Gudism) is due to have her VBAC in less than two weeks time so I thought we had better get her cheer squad started :D It's really important for VBAC to have the support behind you so here you go Mel, just for you ;)

You are going to have a fantastic birth in a few weeks time & you'll be wondering what the big deal was. And besides that, no matter how it goes you'll get to meet a gorgeous little bubba who will love you no matter how it arrives into the outside world.

And you know what, you won't disappoint us. Look at me..... Were you disappointed in me when you found out I didn't get my VBAC??? This is for you, not for us. Don't think about what anyone else thinks, because if someone is disappointed in you if you end up having a repeat c/s then they're just plain dumb. This time you are so well prepared & if you need a c/s then know you have done everything possible & it was obviously a necessary one. No-one will be disappointed in you, I promise (if they are send em my way ;) ).

I'll remember that Sarah. Cos I might have to send my sister your way cos if I don't do it, she'll be the first in line to say "I told you so!!!" :rolleyes:

Gudism, I just wanted to say that you are giving your body a chance to do what it is made to do. You have overcome the influences of other people and now you are going to birth your baby YOUR way. So be it if you do end up needing an emergency caesar (which I'm sure you won't BTW). Either way you will feel fullfilled in knowing you gave it a go and won't give a sh#t what anyone else may say or think.

You are an inspiration. I truely hope that when the time comes for me, that I have the determination for VBAC like you do. :hug:

I second that Mel!! You only need to worry about you and your baby, that's it! Your baby and your body know EXACTLY what to do, trust me! Focus on you, your baby, you, your baby, ........ :hug: you are GREAT hun, trust your body and don't be scared. I will send you heaps of vibes...you will have to find some way of letting me know when bubs is on the way and I will send you all the vibes and thoughts I can for a successful vbac your way. Oh and PFFFT to your sister... do it just to prove her wrong, use that as part of your inspiration ;)

All the negativity I'm getting from friends and family has a LOT to do with my determination to prove them wrong.. I'm a stubborn cow - so I'll do my bloody best to achieve this...

On a hypnobirthing related note.... we got given a notice to hang above the bed when birthing that said something like, we are a hypnobirthing family, positive comments only or something like that. I will see if I can dig it up. Also, I got a badge which said something similar, I have that on my fridge still ...lol. I would start to do positive visualisations now and do the breathing where you let go of negative things etc and let the negative vibes and thoughts some people have been rude enough to inflict on you float away and out of your subconcious. You can do that as you're going to sleep each night :) Then if someone starts to say something not welcomed by you then tell them that you appreciate their concern but you don't need the negative vibes thank you.

Gee that sounds far too polite for me Cass, I'd be most likely to turn around and tell them to f**k off.. .PMSL

My mum had a bedpan with "Please leave your negative comments here" written on it for when she was in the hospice after chemo. Maybe you could do something like that? :lol:

Mel you are going to have a FABULOUS birth, i can FEEL it! ;) My top mantras are:

"Down baby" - during a contraction - particularly the tougher ones as you're dilating more and more, you sort of go "D-O-W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W baby" in your head and when i was roaring (bit of a premature pushing urge) i used the "o" in "down" to remind me to keep my tones low (i.e. not scream).

"I'm gonna get HUGE" - this is from an Ina May Gaskin birth story and it REALLY helped me relax my pelvic floor when i felt the burn of crowning coming. With confidence the baby will fit you can relax and the baby DOES fit :)

Another thing i found really helpful is that as a contraction ended i would say to my belly "Ooh, mama felt that one, you ok baby?" and give some rubs - it helped me focus on WHY i was doing it, which took the edge off of the inevitable "OMG this is hard please make it stop immediately" feeling transition can bring. Also she would kick when i spoke to her, so i always knew she was ok.

When you're deep in labour you can really get to questioning your ability to go on (ALL mothers, not just VBACers). Remember that birth is a journey of 1000 steps and your baby NEVER needs you to go further than just one more step. You can do that Mel, you can always do just one more step.

so glad I found this thread - I want to add my cheering for you hun. Like Sarah said - you won't disappoint hun. However this little bambino enters the world, we will all be delighted that she/he is here - how they arrived will be secondary. I think your amazing - you are prepared, you have a great OB, and you have empowered yourself with knowledge, and suport people to help you through this journey. I can't wait to hear that you have gone into Labour. I'm hoping to come and visit you in hossie so I can have a cuddle of your new born baby, so you had better text me. :hug: :hug: :hug:

I'm so glad I have you guys. Just got an email from a workmate (who I consider a friend) asking me if I've popped yet, if I'm nervous etc.. and I wrote back, nope, not nervous.. and she wrote back saying she was nervous for me, and I wrote back, no need mate, I'll be fine.. and she wrote back saying that I'm in denial, so I wrote back saying, no its called positive thinking, and she wrote back saying "haha ok well I hope that works for you when you are trying to squeeze a kid out of your bits".

Seriously.. why be so negative to someone who is trying to empower themselves and get motivated when they are 38 and a half weeks pregnant??!? Put a damper on my day, thats for sure. I just feel like crying... (pregnancy hormones I'm sure.. )

Ignore it babe...... People have this thing in their heads that birth has to be a negative horrid experience and Im sure there are lots of threads why that is but its NOT.... You are about to bring a new life into this world, a new life that started as a tiny speck- how AMAZING is that!! You have nurtured and loved and grown this little being for 9 mths and as you come to the end of this part of the journey it is natural to cry - but cry over the wonder of it! Cry because of the joy and wonder you are about to experience by having your empowered, educated and beautiful birth.

You scar is strong. Your baby is strong. You are a strong birthing mother doing what your body is made for. You will come out of your experience strong and empowered and at the end of it all will begin your new journey with your little one out in this world hun. Read back on all these posts right now. I know just reading them have helped me immensely. :hug:

I don't understand why people have to project their negativity onto everyone else. You are clearly excited & thinking with positivity, why couldn't she just accept that & say good luck. Makes me so mad. But I think Tan has said it all.... You are strong & just wait til you can say to her "HA, I did it & it was wonderful" :D

OMG Mel! I just think that's horrid! In our mother's group quite a few of the girls were all like... omg how painful was it etc etc etc and I said... ummmm nope I really enjoyed it actually...lol. As I said to you the other day, for me I honestly was not in pain at all. In fact the only thing that did cause me more discomfort and ok a little pain was when the doc dude was feeling around to see what was making Oskar be in distress so much and that hurt cos he was pushing his hand up and my body was trying to get things down and out! Honey, the main thing is you know your body knows what to do and I think that you are ready for a wonderful experience.
