Bye bye navel piercing??
This morning I noticed in the shower my belly button piercing is looking a bit red around the top. I think it's coz my belly is starting to stick out more now and I keep accidently brushing it on things, so I can only assume it will get worse :(
Do I have to take it out?? If I do it will close up won't it?? If I don't take it out now and decide to take it out later will it look worse coz it didn't close up and get all stretched and gross leaving a bigger hole? Or if I leave it in what will happen when my belly button pops out??
This sounds so stupid but I'm so sad about taking it out :( I've had it since I was in grade 10 and I love it, feels like it's a part of me and my belly looks so weird without it now!! Jeez, pregnancy hormones are making it worse I think I'll cry when I take it out, lol. But I'd rather take it out if it's going to get all stretched and gross looking. What happens to it??

I took mine out with DD1 and got it pierced again but with DD2/3/4 i took it out and just thread it through every few weeks so the hole was still there. You can get flexible plastic bars for pregnancy too so call around at some piercing shops just get the piercer to help you do it up as i know a few people that had problems getting them done up.
I have mine out and it looks strange!!!! but my belly is too yuck to show off anyway.

Honey, I've had 3 kids & still have my belly ring.
I wouldn't bother if it wasn't so ugly looking without it!
The only place on my whole belly I got stretchies was around the hole, so I have the bar in there to hide it.
When I had DD1 I took it out at about 6 weeks. Just couldn't be bothered. Went back in pretty easily about 4 - 6 weeks after I had her.
With DD2 I think I took it out at about 4 months. Went back in ok.
With DS it fell out while we were ttc & I just left it. It did take a bit to get it back in, but I did it! I had to stretch it a bit. It is still a bit tender though this time.
You can buy pregnancy bars. A friend of mine used one. I don't know if they are any good or not though. They are really long & bendy.
You would be better off taking it out to save yourself the pain of bumping it.

LOL, I was just going to say that after a baby it's unlikely you'll want to show your belly anyway  :cryinglaugh:
-
I've only just taken mine out again too :( I had it done for my 20th B'day so it's been with me for almost 14 years so I understand your attachment to it!
I have a few little stretchmarks around mine from previous PG's but they are barely noticeable afterwards. I did consider not bothering putting it back in after Caleb was born but TBH I thought it looked terrible with the hole semi closed up so I re-pierced it again.
It is easier to put it back in soon after the birth while the skin is really loose and floppy. A bit of lansinoh on it helps.
-
I got mine done for my 20th birthday and had to take it out a year later :( my belly button rejected it!!! it kept getting infected grrr now i have a scar that never healed...... :(
I regretted getting it done after all that!
I would take it out.

My hole is still there bella - took it out when was pregnant with DD (she is now 7!!) and i can still pop a ring in there if I really wanted to....
Not that my tummy is anything to show though!!!
-
Oh so it hopefully won't close up quickly?? I thought if I took it out it would be gone! So maybe if I take it out and then just shove it through every couple of weeks to make sure it's not closing up or something, while I can.
So it doesn't get all stretched and leave a big hole?? I have a bad image in my head, rofl.
lol, no one sees my belly now anyway except DH but it just looks so odd without it, I'm so used to it!!
Thanks for all your tips girls! Weird that ppl got stretch marks around it, will be lathering it up with the moisturister now!! lol.

You are meant to be able to cut the pregnancy bars to size. I have had mine out for over 10 months and just put it back in (thanks to you Sarajane hehe) and went in fine it will be a little sore for a few days but thats ok. It looks better with it in as it was a bit scarred.
And you so right Janie no belly dancin here :p Well actually it does dance when i am walking around :cryinglaugh:

Hi there :)
I changed mine to one of the preggo bars at about 20 weeks, and seemed to catch it on EVERYTHING after that for about a month. It got a bit red and angry but gradualy got better after that.
I'm too scared to take mine out as any time I've changed the piercing it's been very hard to get it back in that day, let alone 2-3 months later.
I'd say give it a few days to settle down, and maybe try putting a bandaid over it so it doens't catch so much?
Just gone 32 weeks and (a bit stretched out!!) but so far so good....

hi i have had my navel bar if for two pregnancies i just put a flexible bar in and no problem. I started to sell them when i realized how fab they were hehe
-
I've swapped more belly bar over to a maternity one and have had no problems (only 22 weeks though) I've only been asked to take it out for the 20 week ultrasound. I'm just going to see how far I can take it.
I agree - my belly just looks weird to me without it now!

I kept my normal belly bar in with my first pregnancy and it got a bit red and swollen towards the end. But with this bub i got one of the pregnancy bars off ebay (cost me $20, but u can get cheaper) and so far so good.
You cut them down to size, so u can have the bar whatever size you like mine is about 2cm long and hardly ever catches.

I thought I would show you my piercing which is now 30 weeks into its 4th pregnancy.
I don't think its a rule that they need to be taken out. I haven't.

i took mine out coz the same thing happened, but i put it straight back in afterwards and the hole wasnt closed over thank god ;)
-
I took mine out with DD#1 and havent put it back in althought the hole looks as though you could still poke one through, im not game enough, it might hurt, lol
Mine did stretch and it was the only place on my tummy i got stretch marks. Didnt look that bad though and i had no prob showing off my belly (once i was thin again), i have a couple of stretch marks on my hips too but i figure most ppl dont care cause they can see you have a kid and most ppl get them.
-
I didnt take mine out at all...
i started to knock it on things so i would wear things that were not going to rub on it.
i guess i figured i would know when to take it out... that point never arrived, one thing i did notice was that the hole became larger (i didnt get an outy belly button - more it all stretched so that it was flat) but looks the same as pre pg now

Hows it going SJ?
Mine is starting to catch on things & I don't have a sleeper to put in it. thinking I may need to take it out, but I will wait till I can get a sleeper in there till I can put the bar back in.
-
I had a ring, and was worried about getting it caught and it ripping out (have heard stories *shudder*) so took it out at about 20wks. Felt a bit stripped without it at first but I think the hole itself is fine and hasn't closed yet :)
-
Thanks for asking FJ, I've got it out at the moment. It kept looking red and getting caught on things. Looks fine now and I poke it through every now and then to check it's not closing up but going ok so far :crossfingers:

Just wanted to add my experiance from last night ...
After talking my bellystud out about 5 years back ... I could manage a slim hoop through last night :o :o Long story short .. since my navel started to pop out, I've noticed that it sorta looked like there was a little black head INSIDE the piercing, so I tried getting it out by just squeezing, but later resorted to trying to push through one of my hoops ... low and behold it goes through, gunk comes out ... EWWWWW  exactly like a little black head :dunno:
I have to add that the piercing seems shallower than what I can remember, the skin seems sooooooo tender and frail .. could also be because of the bump underneath ;)
PS. I do shower ... every night, sometimes twice a day ... and I do clean out my navel, just so ya all don't think I'm some smelly roadside critter :p

I know a few people who've used fishing line. I took mine out a couple of years before I got pregnant so didn't get to try myself (after about 10 years with no problems it got badly infected after I had laparoscopy and I ended up letting it go ). But fishing line is supposed to work really well.

I had to take mine out when I had surgery to remove my ectopic pregnancy...and then by the time things had healed enough to put it back in, the hole had closed too much. I really miss it ..my tummy looks funny to me without it
