Still Not Engaging.

Hi saw OB today:(. Bad news for me, Baby is nowhere near engaging:wall:. Ob did'nt want to do an induction because it would be dangerous. Why cord prolapse?
He has booked me in to see him early Monday morning next week, after having seen me he make decide wether he'll do a ceaser on Monday afternoon or start an induction monday night.
He said it would depend on if JB engages or not.

Been told by my massage therapist cousin to hit a pressure point in the big toe to get things moving. She swears it works 100%. Wondering if it'll do the job would be great if it did:dance:. I'd love to have things moving finaly.

What a stubborn little baby!! I would suggest going to see an Accupuncturist, that may help. Good luck and let us know how things go.

I think Bubba is a lazy sleepin like it's Daddy. It is in a posterior position too. Will any natural remidies cause a cord prolapse?

natural therapies may not work , i did accupuncture and homeopathy.. acc. did work to turn my baby the right way , but she still spun around and didnt engage .. homeopathy gave me loads of pre labour ctx .. and she came 9 days late all on her own after id given up trying every remedy out there...

i was in labour and 3cm doc said id be in over night as it was a vbac and 1st labour , and it would be a long one as she was not engaged .that was at 7 pm and she was born at 11;30pm ... so they could go head down any time ..

how many days will the ob let you go over ?? and have they done a scan to prove cord pro lapse?? and no natuarl therapies will not cause it , just get informed and make your own decision ... what would you rather ?? and how far overdue are you ?

I was due on the 25th Aug. no scan he is worried though.

Just remember that babies don't have to engage before labour, especially if it's your first baby.

Ob has booked me for c-section on Monday if not engaged and has booked me for an induction monday night if it does engage. Seems concerned that it won't engage. i'm getting confused.

Will you be 14 days overdue by next Wednesday? I would say that is why your OB wants to induce you. If bub isn't engaged, and you get induced, then there is a chance of labour not proceeding quick enough (to satisfy the ob) and a lot of the time labour will end in emergency c/s in that case. I've seen it happen with 2 of my friends this year. However, if bub hasn't engaged by then, it doesn't mean bub won't engage at all. All babies and labours are different. The important thing is to make sure bub is safe and sound. If you don't want to have a c/s just becuase bub hasn't engaged, then you don't have to. Have a scan, make sure bub is fit for labour. Try natural remedies, it won't hurt. It will either help, or won't do anything.

jojo - what do you want? Are you happy to wait until your baby starts labour or are you worried?

Do you still feel that your baby is ok?

If you are happy and you're happy that your baby is happy, think about stall tactics or just outright saying NO.

Babies want to born - your baby will come. A posterior lie will often mean a baby is "late" to engage and consequently will go postdates. But it doesn't mean it won't come at all. I've had mums in your position lots of times, their babies came and they came safely.

This is about what you want, and what you're comfortable with. Don't be pushed into an induction or a caesarean on a just in case basis. You sound very torn and I don't mean to add to that confusion. But if you listen to your gut, perhaps you won't feel so confused any more.

Hang in there...you still have a week before they get heavy and ALOT can happen in that time at this stage of the game and it probably will ;)

PS - An anecdote for you. I recently had a first time mum who at 41.5 weeks had a high, closed cervix and an unengaged, posterior baby. GP and hospital telling her to have a caesar. She said no. She went into spontaneous labour at 42 weeks and birthed her healthy baby in three hours.
Moral of the story: No one knows what you are capable of...until you're doing it ;)

Babies do NOT have to engage for labour to start. Quite often your baby will drop once you go into labour. I too had a client just a couple of weeks back, her bub was posterior, not engaged and giving her alot of grief, pre labour. Anyway, when she did go into labour bub turned on his own into the "perfect" position and was born quickly and safely.

Don't scar your uterus unnecessarily. This is your first baby, once your uterus is scarred you go down the path of all the crap you can get having a VBAC.

As Tobily said though, do what YOU want to do. Don't be scared about anything hun. Don't be bullied into doing anything you don't want to do - that means an unneceasaren, or an induction.

What I would suggest is you relaxing, let yourself come to peace with this babies birth. Enjoy being pregnant, try to stop stressing out so much. Book an outing with your hubby, dinner and a movie ? Babies love to wreck your plans. Have a glass of wine at dinner (yes, it's ok to do) and just kick back. Once your body and mind is relaxed labour will come.

Acupuncture is great for getting bub into the right position. So is moxibustion. Also if bub is post. try getting down onto all 4's, sure it's uncomfortable. But it's not as bad as the back pain you have from a post. bub. Check out the spinning babies website for ideas on optimal fetal positioning.

Goodluck hun and remember this is YOUR body and YOUR baby. Don't let someone steal your birth from you. Do it YOUR way !! :hug:

moxibustion worked with turning my baby, i was desperate to get her to engage and turn back to tummy , i burnt the crap out of my toes :lol: the accupuctuist gave me a moxi stick to take home and showed me the point to moxi , it smelt like i was having a joint ..but shortly after doing it i could feel the ridge of her back .... but like i said she still flipped and turned ..

i had a cs due to ds being oblique , was given a cs (back then i had no idea i had a choice) and when i became pg with dd there was talk about a cs straight up at 38wks , until i said NO thank you , i told them i will have a vbac ... and then come 40 weeks they wanted to induce , but i said no as my cx was closed and tight ... 41+2 i went into spontanoues labour .

when i was back in the ward , there was a girl next to me who had been induced at 41 weeks and it was taking a long time for her to establish labour , they broke her waters in the morning ..

when i was in labour i remember the feeling of my water breaking on their own , call me strange but it felt good to feel that gush .. all on my own with no intervention

what im trying to say is ... check the bub , if its healthy let him be .. you and bub know whats best for your body , and stress of the docs is prob hindering labour ...

just reading over the posts , i totally 2nd what trish said ... babies do love to wreck your plans , i was on the way to the hosp to get a sleeping tablet due to pre labour , thinking i could get knocked out and have a full nights sleep ..... but no i gave birth that night :lol:

i didnt belive the doc that i was in real labour as previous docs told me that labour was ages away ...

have sex , i really did think it worked

If you were worried and really dont want the c-sect I would ask for the induction.

My DD was laying side on and wasnt engaged. My midwife had constant trouble find the heartbeat because she just never engaged. I was lucky enough that in the last hour (apparently there is a 2 hour window to give birth when you are 10 cm dilated - grr at the midwife for not telling me till too late and not breaking my water) she did JUST barely engaged enough for a forcep delivery. As much as I hated having forceps I would pick it again any day over a c-section.

I agree with the other girls. Speak your mind to your doctor if you think the baby is ok to wait or you would like to try and induction and definately try the natural methods. It cant hurt.

My second baby was still 'floating' when i was 4 cm and in labour at the hospital. He was born very quickly 1.5 hours later.

Been trying natural methods. Nothing happening apart from a few cramps and alot of movement on jb behalf, i get excited like things may be coming on and it stops.
I hope jb decides to just turn around and get it's head down ready to go at the last minute. That would be really nice.

Still plenty of time to go. Bub is head down isn't he, just in posterior position? Yes, posterior labours hurt like hell (both my girls were) but you can achieve a drug free vaginal delivery even with a posterior baby. I did with Emily. Hang in there and be confident in yourself that you, and your baby can do this.

Jodi, Jellybean is head down but not engaging. I've tried everything i've heard of to get Jb to turn but nothing.:doh:

WooooooHOOOOOO!!!! :dance: I've been having contractions since 5am and they have been 5min apart since 8am. Getting really intense but not unmanageable. Do feel uncomfortable to sit though constant pain up my va jay jay and back is pretty sore too.
When should i go to hospital?
I called and they said no hard and fast rules, How does that help?

YAY Jo, that is fantastic hun. While you are coping stay at home. Stay at home as long as you possibly then and then some. Go for a shower or a bath and relax as much as you can. Try not to wear yourself out too much.

Maybe put on a DVD and watch that. Don't forget to eat and drink too. You may not feel like it now but your body will thank you for it later.

Hi guys i gave birth to David Jonathan at 3:08am Friday 5th September.

Had a vaginal birth he came out facing the right way.
Ob used ventouse just to stop bubba slipping back in after i'd pushed him out a bit
and apart from that and some pethadine that had worn off by delivery it was natrual.
The Birth i'd wanted.
