Will menevit help?
Hello,
I've dug out dh's :sperm: analysis, trying to work out if I should get him to take menevit. I try and get him to take the blackmores 'men's performance multi' which is ment to help fertility, but compared to menevit it has less folate, Vit C, Vit E, zinc and is missing a few other things...so given his analysis - does anyone know if menevit will help his little boys??? (our FS has not suggested it, but then it may just be that she is a bit worried about dh's response!)
- count - 4mill/ml (low)
- motility - 6% (low)
- mean velocity 26 microns/sec (low)
- morphology - 87% abnormal (high) (morphology mainly consists of small or absent acrosomes - what ever that means!)
- 59 % of sperm viable by dye - exclusion
Also, does anyone know which is better out of elevit or blackmores concieve well gold for women TTC?
thanks

Hi Farmgirl,
Hope you are having a good day relaxing.
I really don't know much about helping the 'little boys'.
What I do know though is that our FS insisted DH go on Menevit. He said it can only help with sperm health.
I'm not sure of DH's analysis results before Menevit, but I know his results were great after having been on it for 3 months. I do know though that zinc is really important for the little boys. I'm sure that Menevit wouldn't hurt though, possibly only help.
I have also always been told to take Elevit. Don't know if there is really any difference, but I've been to 2 different clinics now and 2 different FS's and they have both said Elevit. I have heard that there is really not that much difference, more of a personal choice.
Hope I have helped..not just confused you!!
Big hugs always

Hi Farmgirl,
Hope you are having a lovely Sunday.
My FS recommended Elevit as it has a higher dose of Folic acid in one capsule rather than the two that you have to take with the Blackmores Pregnancy & BreastFeeding Gold. I think the Elevit capsule has 800 ug and one capsule of the Blackmores PBFG has 250 ug (just checked the back of the bottle).
However the Blackmores Conceive Well Gold has 500ug of Folic acid plus it has the CoQ10 in it as well which is not in the Elevit or the Blackmores PBFG ones.
I got this from the Blackmores Web Site :
CoQ10 ? Levels of CoQ10 decrease with age. Adequate levels of CoQ10 in the expectant mother are associated with healthy early stages of pregnancy. Low levels of CoQ10 in newly pregnant women are associated with unhealthy contractions of the womb.
I am currently taking the Blackmores Conceive Well Gold and then hopefully once the BFP arrives I will switch to the Elevit (taking only one capsule a day is more appealing to me than the two).
As for the Menevit, our FS did not mention this at all, but I am definately going to get DH onto it. He takes a Multi Vitamin but after doing some reading/research on the Menevit it certainly does seem better for sperm health.
I hope that this helps Farmgirl, let me know which way you decide to go.
Take care and lots of hugs.
Jodie

We were given a couple of bottle of Menevit for free from the clinic so hubby is on those at the moment. I definitely think it can't hurt. DH's issue is with motility and they said it's probably unlikely to help much with that, but you never know so we decided to go with it.
-
My DH doesn't have any known swimmer issues but my FS still thought taking menevit was a good idea - dertainly can't hurt!
I had been using Elevit for the past 3yrs - prior to DS, during BFing and then up until the last m/c.
At my last appt, however, my FS said she has been doing some research recently which showed that low iodine levels can be harmful to early pg. Eleveit has no iodine. She is now reccomending the Blackmores Concieve Well. So, I am now on this, plus am also taking Megafol 5mg folic acid as there isn't a lot in the blackmore's and any extra is just excereted my the body... HTHs!

Hey Hun
Well my DH is on menevit too. We had great egg numbers, great fert numbers but went down after a lot of fragmentation... He has been on it for around 5 months now so we will see what happens when we do the next round shortly (cause our fert prob is with the spremidoos!). I think it worth using and is probably more directed at sperm health than the blackmores one... I'm not too too sure though - I would go the Menevit!

Jodie- Very interesting about the CoQ10. I'm going to ask my FS about this.
You girls are a fund of information.
-
Hi Bel, it will be interesting to hear what your FS has to say, keep us updated.
Also everyone, can you just get Menevit from any Chemist? I have been into a couple here in Ballajura (Perth) and they don't have it.
-
Jodie, you may have to ask your chemist to order it in cause it's pretty new.

hi everyone,
thanks for your replies - i'm going to have a chat with dh to see if he will give it a go - i know he will be negative, but we will see.
re the elevit or blackmores - i think i'll stick with the blackmores for the time being and then ask advice if we ever get pg...it is a pitty that you still have to take an extra folate tab with it - you would think they would fix that easily enough!
Jodie - you can also menevit get it online through pulse pharmacies - epharmacy (the other major online one) does not have it. I'm in the same boat as you - my local chemist does not stock it. i have also noticed it at the chemist at the hospital that our ivf clinic is at. good luck finding it
thanks again

Hi Farmgirl,
Hope that you are doing well - just wanted to let you know that I ordered the Menevit from Pulse Pharmacies and my DH is now taking it. I have been giving him the tablets to take so at least then I know that its happening (IYKWIM).
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Jodie,
Glad that you got some - I have not yet convinced DH of their worth, but am still working on it! I hope that it helps in your situation.
Good luck

DH is on menevit and has been now for about 3 - 4 months. He hasn't had a SA done recently so we are not sure if it is making a difference or not - DH has 1% sperm so I am guessing him taking something can only help. It is also mandatory for him to take it at our IVF Clinic same with me taking elevit. We were given 3 months supply when we paid the registration fee at the clinic.
Good luck with it all. My accupuncturist also has DH on a zinc powder - he just has to remember to take it more often.

** barging **
Hi, saw this thread and thought I would let you know that Selenium was suggested to us to help with male fertility problems. You can get it from health food shops, around $36 for 90 tablets/3 months supply from memory.
DH is also on Menevit too and I take Elevit.
Goodluck.!

DH was told to take Vitamin E, Folate and Vitamin C and that was it. Our FS never mentioned Menevit.
I've been taking Blackmores for over a year now. I was never told that I was supposedto take an additional folate tab with the daily recommended dose though. I was told to take the Blackmores over Evelvit due to an additional vitamin that is in Balcmores, but bot in Elevit - Can't remember what it was though.
-
its interesting that between us we have had several different recommendations for what we and or DH should take...and yet with the wonders of medical science they cant put it all together into one suger coated pill to make it easy for us to take...
-
Hi Farmgirl,
My FS said that Menevit has doing lots of marketings, hence now it is well known in this area. But the theory behind it is really 'antixoident therapy' works on male problems, which is simply Vitamin C (1000mg) , E (500mg x 2) and folate acid (500mg) per day. So if you have trouble getting Menevit, simply taking those will have same effect and cheaper as well.
DH has been on Menevit for more than 4 weeks now so we hope we will see an improvement on his SCSA result soon (DNA fragmentation).
As for myself, I have been on Elevit, Natal Complete (natropath recommended) and now just on folic, my AP said B group Vitamins are just as good for women's hormones balance. So I am on that too.
Good luck !

Hi Farmgirl...just found this thread. My DH has been taking menevit for 3 months...he had a low count etc...and we just got a BFP - I would def recommend!

Hi everyone, just thought I would post to say I say FS today, in discussion about what other options we could consider/change for our next IVF stim cycle, they have recommended DH go on Menevit. His sperm samples are all normal/good, they have said not to expect so much as an improvement on the sperm results, however they believe that Menevit has a positive impact on quality of DNA, so hopefully will result in better quality embies, more blasties etc.
I wish they had suggested this earlier (DH has been on a multi vit, zinc, fish oil etc). So fingers crossed it has an improvement. Just thought I would share.
Hugs xx
