Need Help!!! Syneral spray?????

Hey

i am on day 1 of syneral spray and i am having the biggest melt down EVER!!!!!!!!

i had my first dose this morning and i dont think i got the full dose, dp was there with me when i done it and he said i sort of hesitated when spraying and he thinks i only got half ( if thats possible) i know some got in there cos i felt it. well anyway dp is in bed asleep and i just done my second dose and i made sure i pressed down firmly ( no hesitating) and i know some got in there but i am just worried now that i am not doing it right:crying:

maybe i am putting it into far up my nose and its stopping the spray from fulling coming out?? how far do you put it up?? and i get a little bit of taste in the back of my throat a few minutes after spraying but its nothing as bad as what other people have said its like, oh god i am doing it wrong arent i?????

please help do you think i am doing it right??

i can hear it go off but it just doesnt feel like alot is coming out??? and i know something is going in there cos i have to sniff or it will run out plus it feels wet?

god i am so angry at myself, its a simple nasal spray and i cant even get that right!!! :wall:

what am i going to do?? how do i know if this is working??

Firstly it sounds okay to me hun. I once forgot to take the cap off entirly..:redface:

Just breathe..maybe prime the spray to make sure a spray is coming out (this means just spray into the air). Like you said - firmly press down and that should be okay. I also felt it down the back of my thraot a lil too. I pusually put it about half way up my nose. Also I was thinking that you are probably getting most of the shot on the right spot which is why you aren't getting a lot of excess fluid run off...so to speak.

Also as far as Syneral being yucky I think what most of the girls are talking about is the hormonal side effects. This will take a few days to kick in and vaires from each person anyway - you may totally fine. I don't suffer too badly with the syneral either.

Try to stay calm hun - it sounds like you are doing it right...:hug:.

I was told that if you get that taste in your throat it means you are doing it right :)

If it is the first time you are using the sprayer, as Rach says, you should prime - spray in the air - by pumping it until you see the mist. It is then ready to use in your nose. I normally just place it a little up my nose, squeeze then sniff (done at same time or close enough to it).

This can all be very daunting and I know you just want to do everything right but it sounds like you are. Have faith in yourself and your abilities :hug:. You can do this.

I can totally relate to the feeling of worrying you haven't done it right. I like Rach did my first spray with the cap :doh: on and I remember shaking with fear that it hadn't worked.
BUT my FS says it is almost impossible to do wrong (well at least with the cap off!). Your body will absorb the spray. Just give it a few more tries and things should go ok.
If in doubt ring your clinic and get your nurse to talk you through it. THey are so used to this.

Oh and if you do get the yukky taste, my sister swears that eating an orange straight afterwards heaps you through it.

That darn Syranel can be tricky! I too was unsure if I was doing it right but agree with all the other ladies have said. I called my nurse and she said as long as it is in your nose when you spray, it will work. It gets absorbed very rapidly through the membrane of the nose (gross but better than injections!). My nurse suggested I hold the other nostril closed, spray leaning slightly forward and then tip my head back and breath very deeply for a few seconds. I'm not sure if this actually does anything but it certainly helps to relax. If you can taste it, it worked and even if you can't taste it, it will have worked as well.

well i agree with all the other girls this SYNERAL can be very tricky and i to like rach have even left my CAP ON AND TRIED HEHE:lol:
but im sure your doing it right im on ivf # 3 sweet heart and i didnt even get to taste the syneral on my first cycle so i was unsure as well as some girls say you can taste it in your throat but i never, and it still worked -this time i taste the **** every single time so i think it varies.
it is so hard to actually no if your doing it rite but i rekon you are just keep going hun ,you will get use to it and i just SNIFF REALLY HARD AND KEEP SNIFFING FOR A WHILE it usually take about 10 mins for me to taste it.
you will soon get use to how you like doing it hun sometimes i stick it right in me nose other just sit in inside the nose and sniff reall hard always keeping your other nostril closed

This morning when i done the spray dp was with me and he said it looks like i am doing it right ( no hesitating or anything) he reackons i done it perfect, but i am still worrying that i am doing it wrong:rolleyes:

but it has to be going somewhere cos you can hear it pump and i sniff it all back and then a few minutes later i can taste the horrible thing ( have never looked forward to tasting something more in my life:lol:) as horrible as it taste it gives me reassurance that i must be doing it right.

When did you start getting side effects?? its just that last night i went to bed with a headache and then was up at 4am having a shower cos it was soooooo bad. and was wondering if this is a side effect cos i really dont want to get another headache like that again. it was so horrible!!!!

i started to get headaches staight away and yep sometimes they get bad but i think im just use to it .
it can also make me feel very tired sometimes

i am feeling really tired and have a light headache would that be side effects??

i just wish there was a way of knowing that its working, i have a blood test this time next week so i will know something then, i just need to convince myself that its working and everything is fine. i am tasting it everytime i have my dose so i know its going in there but i just cant help but worry:wall:

take it easy i think your doing a wonderful job it all sounds normal to me getting tired and a light head ach is spot on and with my firs cycle i hardly tasted it .
but im sure all is good i know trust me how stress full this can be especially your fisrt time relax and breath hunny your going great hang in there and your questions are far from silly just natural

I don't recall any headaches and I've just checked my journal that I kept for my first few cycles and the only thing I've reported is feeling quite teary and moody but only around day 9 or 10 of the synarel. Of course this could have been due to it being my first cycle but I was also reassured that it can be a side effect.

I'm sure the synarel is doing it's thing - just as you are. It's hard not to compare and fear things are not going as planned, especially until you have some blood tests to reassure you, but each of us respond in many different ways. It sounds like comparing how you are reacting to how others have is causing you more stress than you need to be under, so be kind to yourself. :hug: :hug:

M2C - everyone has different side effects from the meds with an ivf cycle - i guess one way to explain it is that your body is going into a drug induced menopausal state - now, some women have EVERY possible side effect - mood swings, hot flushes, headaches, cramping - the whole shebang. some have nothing at all.

personally, i got a few headaches, but nothing tragic. was a bit tired and moody but DH said it was nothing he noticed - it was more that i felt i had a shorter than normal fuse (but i'm a red head, so maybe i'm always like that!!). after a week or so i felt crampy - like AF was on her way. apart from that, nothing. none of these were really obvious either - i was a bit like you and analysing EVERYTHING.

i agree with what the other ladies have said - BELIEVE that it is working - and take that stress out of your mind for now. it sounds like you're sniffing nicely (gotta Love that taste - i used to sniff just after cleaning my teeth so that the toothpaste masked the taste!) - and you'll have a BT next week to confirm it's working. there is nothing you can do in the interim except what you're already doing, so just keep sniffing, and (as much as i hate this word) - RELAX

ive never suffered from this side effect and this is ivf 3 ,so even i rekon my body has responded so differently every time that i think im smart and starting to know more - but im not lol ive actually been freaking out a bit more cause different things have been happening :wall: SO BG once again thanks your little reply has made me feel better and im not the one really wanting to know pmsl

OMG! I had just logged on to post the exact same post mummy2chloe!!!!! I started my syneral spray today and was freaking out a bit this morning wondering if I did it right - I didn't get a horrible taste in the back of my throat until about 5 mins later - driving to work I nearly gagged so I bypassed the supermarket and bought myself some barley sugar lollies and have one of them afterwards - seems to help with the taste - not great for the waist line but helps heaps. Sounds like we are both on the same journey at nearly the same time! Keep up the good sniffing and try not to worry about symptoms - I have deliberately not read about the side effects - otherwise I will be thinking everything is one and will wear myself out! DH has read the side effects incase something goes wrong - its better for me this way. Good luck - PM me if you want to chat!!

I remember the headaches/migraines clearly. There were quite a few days where I would come home from taking DD to school and I would have to go lie down in the nice dark bedroom. I sniffed for 3 months before we started injecting, so I had quite a few of those days!
Some days I wondered if I was sniffing the right way too. Some times I would be able to taste it straight away, some days it would take time.

One of the girls on here mentioned using a lolly after sniffing, I think it was minties in particular? or it could've been chocolate... cant remember now, but I think I tried to have both in supply lol.

thanks again everyone for your very kind and helpful replies, i really would be a mess if it wasnt for you girls getting me through the last few day. but dont be going anywhere we have injections next week so without a doubt i will probably have a major anxiety attack about something to do with them:rolleyes: (i am a shocker i know)

i am feeling absolutely exhausted, for the last 2 days it feels like my fuel tank has been running on empty!!!!! and i am sick of the light constant headache but on the other hand i love it cos hopefully its to give me a baby:dance:

kasam how is your sniffing going darl? hopefully your feeling well. how long are you on the spray for?? when are you starting your injections? if all is good with my blood test next week, then we should start the injections on the 1st november

i had a minties stash in the car for the trip to work... it was a godsend!

i will have to keep the minties and chocolate in mind for when i go shopping next

at the moment i am using the eucalyptus & honey lollies cos that was all that we had in the cupboard and there not to bad, but i love minties and at least now i have a good reason for eating them:p

just thought i would let you know that i had my bt today to check my levels to make sure there nice and low

well i just got off the phone from the clinic and she said they were hoping for anything under 200 and my results came back at 37 :dance: she said they are very nice and low ( that would explain why i feel so TERRIBLE!!!!!)

so this means i start injecting saturday (1st November) :clap:
plus i got my af this morning while i was getting ready for work, my nurse made a comment to me just before, she said my body is working and responding like clock work :lol:

i cant believe it. after 6 and a half years of my body doing nothing but LET ME DOWN, it feels funny to finally feel like its doing what its suppose to be. I think my body might actually like me FOR ONCE!!!! its a very strange feeling when things go the way they are suppose to. for the last week i have been worrying that i have been doing things wrong with the spray and having no confidence or faith in myself or my body, but its just so hard when month after month, year after year things went wrong, BUT for today i am going to be proud of myself and my body:D

but tomorrow is another day and now i need to focus on the injections, we all know that will be a whole new thread of questions and worries and the same sort of thinking that i am not doing things right :rolleyes:

note to body = sorry that i have no confidence or faith in you , just after so many years its a little hard not to, but keep up the good work and hopefully we can make a baby together. WE HAVE DONE IT ONCE BEFORE i am sure we can do it again ( i hope)

M2C, That is fantastic news! So very happy for you :)
When we did our cycle, I got a notebook and wrote down the things that our nurse told us, and heaps of 'hints' from the net and on here on doing the injections. :)

we wont be going into the clinic for our first injection, i wish we could it would probably make me feel better knowing that there there to help with the first one, to watch over us and make sure we are doing it right. but because we dont live in rocky and the injections are at night we wont be able to go in for the first one:crying:

they sent us home with a little booklet and a dvd that tells us how the pen works and stuff.

dp is a little nervous about doing it, and i am terrified:redface:

but once we get over the first few injections i am sure we will be fine.

Just wanted to pop in and let you know I think you are doing a great job. It's not always easy - especially your first cycle. As for the injections - try not to worry they really aren't that bad. I don't really like the trigger one - most girls don't :lol: but the ones from the purgon pen don't hurt much at all!

M2C - don't worry, it's natural to be nervous about the 'first injection' ;)
I've only done one round of OI (not IVF) and I was ok about it right up until I was about to inject myself on the first morning!
After a bit of picking the pen up, putting it down, hopping around, picking the pen up, putting it down - you get the picture - I just pinched my belly, wiggled my toes and did it! And it wasn't so bad.

Try not to work yourself up too much or you'll tense up and it may sting more. Just breath and wiggle your toes!

I'm starting IVF in Jan so I'll be back onto the injections again!

Bummer about not having the clinic to help out for your first injection. We had the same, the girls showed us how the pen worked and sent us home. I ended up going to the local health clinic and asked if they would help me out with it. I then freaked out because the lady they got to help me, saw the pen and excitedly announced to me that she had seen one of them the week before at some course she had just done :o
DH was at work for my first one. He didn't want to do any of my injections, but he did my trigger for me and it hurt the least!

just a quick question

is there ANYTHING that i can do to make me feel better??

i am so so tired, all i want to do is sleep!!! my eyes sting all day cos i am so tired and just want to sleep, i am going to bed early and getting enough rest, but 2 hrs after waking up i feel like i need to go back, i have NO energy what so ever, which doesnt go down to well with the new job, i am stacking and packing shelves and loading and unloading pellets and i am so physically tired when i get home, i just crumble into a big mess! i have been working everyday for last 2weeks and i am working everyday ( mon-fri) until egg pick up.

one minute i am snappy the next i am crying, i am totally over it!!!!!

so is there anything that you guys could suggest that might help with my energy levels?? and to help with feeling so tired??

i need :help::crying:

moodiness is part and parcel of the hormonal fluctuations with ivf - you've basically put yourself into a drug-induced menopausal state, so think of all those middle aged ladies that are moody and horrific - and that's where you are hormonally

i would suggest, if you can, eat a low GI diet - you'll keep your sugar levels more constant, and will have less of the ups and downs. sleep when you can (for me i went from 6 hours a night to at least 8 hours when i was cycling cos i needed it) and don't push yourself too hard

i KNOW it's hard seeing it's a new job, but you need to think - in as little as 4 weeks, you might have your BFP - and you'll have to try to remember there are some things you can't do safely for that little bubba....

i am getting 8hrs sleep a night but doesnt really make a difference, but hey if this is whats got to happen to make me a baby then i am happy to take it.

i dont know what i am going to do with the new job, there is alot of lifting and picking things up that are heavy, just worried about how i am going to get around it in tww, plus if i get bfp? i need this job and i would feel terrible if i asked for light duties when at the moment we are so busy, plus they would want to know why i need light duties for possible 3mths if i get bfp? but on the other hand i have been through so much to try and have a baby i dont want to stuff that up either iykwim?

ahhhhhhhhhh i think i just need to go to bed and let this day be over:wall: way to tired and to teary to even try and get my head around all of this, we will just take each day as she comes and will cross that bridge when or if it comes.

i think the only reason why i am worried and stressing out is because dp is doing the injections and not a professional lol. its not the needle that worries me i dont care about that, i have had plenty of needles in my time, plus i have had the injections for the iui's, it just that its an amature who's doing the injecting and just worried that it might not get done properly.

well i have a feeling its going to be interesting lol and hey at least we can look back on this time and have a good laugh about it lol.

it stung a little afterwards but other then that it was fine.

i think dp is feeling a little more apart of all of this now, when i was on the pill and with the spray there is not alot he can do other then be there when i am not feeling well, but now that he is doing the injections i think he is feeling like he is apart of it now, which is great cos i want him to feel apart of it.

tonights injection hurt more, i dont know why?? it hurt the second he put it in??? not to worry its all over now, hopefully tomorrow nights one wont hurt as much.
