What do you think?
Hi all,
DH and I have about four names that are on our "top names" list. We're not sure if we'll actually make a decision before the birth or wait til DD is born but we have an on-going debate about one of the names...
I really like Erica. The problem with Erica is that DH's father's name is Eric. We see our inlaws frequently and Grandma and Grandpa will be heavily involved in DD's life.
What do you all think?
Is it ok to sort of use Grandpa's name?
We have asked him and he (of course) is delighted by the idea. DH is not so sure.
Thoughts/opinions welcome.

I think its a great name!! We are using both grandmothers names o a girl and both grand fathers names if a boy so im all for it!!
-
You will find once bub arrives you would no longer use FIL's name anyhow as it will be Grandpa this and Grandpa that, But I think its a lovely idea... I would go with it...
-
I was going to say the same as Tali, and if you like it then I would go for it :)
-
I think it's lovely too and I agree with Tali - you won't call him Eric anymore - you will call him "Grandpa"!
Really sweet name :)
-
I think Erica is a gorgeous name and ditto the others on it being grandpa this etc. :)
-
Thanks ladies!!
I hadn't thought about that - once she is born we will start referring to him as Grandpa. I'm already doing it, in a teasing way!
I'm glad you all think its nice!
-
What have you chosen for a middle name OP?
-
I think it's a lovely idea!!
-
I think its really special!! I would go for it!
-
I think it's lovely - we gave Genevieve the middle name Claudia after her grandpa and great-grandpa who were Claude - so I say go for it.
-
-
Love it! I thinks that is so special esp if he is excited
-
Thanks ladies!
Amy we're a bit stuck on middle names... some options are:
Helen (my Nanna's middle name, always wanted to use it somewhere but DH isn't convinced)
Ruby
Rose (DH doesn't like but I do!)
...
Suggestions? What sounds nice with Erica?
-
Oooh Erica Rose is soooo pretty! But I'm a big fan of the name Rose :)
-
yeah its o.k to use it, do what ever ya want if u like the name use it :)
-
I like Rose too, I think it also flows really nicely with the first name and our surname.
DH isn't convinced on Rose though!
-
I like the name Erica. Would other family members get their nose out of joint?
If not you could spell her name Erika.
Middle names:
Erica Lily
Erica Rose (I really like this too)
Erica Allyce
Erica Marie
Goodluck
-
Erica Lily is also really pretty!
-
I think it would be fine. I have the same name as my aunt, and that's never been a problem, so I don't think having the feminine form of her grandfather's name will be either.
I love Erica Helen. Erica Rose is pretty, but Rose is very popular as a middle name, and since Erica is a short name, I think it sounds better with a slightly longer middle name. What about Erica Rosalie?
-
I think it's nice too. My brother and SIL have used all the grandparent's names in their childrens' names (middle names) and they were all chuffed. (but bro and SIL have had 6 kids, so they had plenty of names to go round LOL!)
If you really like Rose as a middle name, keep at your DP - you'll convince him eventually ;)
-
I really like Erica Ruby.
Erica Helen is nice too :)
-
Great name. I am sure whatever you choose wiull be lovely.
-
I think it is a lovely name....I do like it spelt with a K instead of a C!!!
Erica Louise
Erica Mae
Erica Tilly
Erica Kate
Erica Belle
-
Amy I love Erica Lily but we already have a Lily in the family!!
To throw a spanner in the works - my mum has declared that if I name the baby "after Eric" she will be offended and think that I am playing favourites!
Can't please everyone...
Back to the drawing board........

Hey OP - I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in. I think Erica/Erika is a really pretty name and I get the whole changing of your FIL's name from Eric to Grandpa thing but I was going to wonder if, for your DP, it might not be a little bit weird to have his daughters name be so close to his fathers? Would you want to call your baby a name that was very close to your own mother or fathers name?
I'm not saying this is automatically an issue but perhaps is why your DH is unconvinced about Erica.
Having said all of that, and I realise your mum is raising the opposite issue of feeling left out, I truly believe that if you and your DH like a name, you should use it. This is your child, no one elses and EVERYBODY will have an opinion. Like you said, you can't please everyone (and nor should you try!).
