I think it all depends on the woman/mother-to-be..
I have heard that some of us can carry more fluid then others, therefore that adds to our weight gain etc..
I think a 18kg weight gain @ 30wks is just fine, so don't panic ;)
(I personally put on between 12-14kg both times while pregnant..
Pre-pregnancy I am roughly 55kgs..)
i dont think there is of should be a 'normal'!! your body is doing what it has to to sustain you and bubba!! i put on 11kg last time and already put on 12kg this time at 33 weeks
Everyone is different - and if your OB or Doctor isnt worried about it than u shouldnt worry either - just enjoy being pregnant, cause it goes sooo fast - u can always lose the weight again!
I put on 5.6kgs and within the 1st week of having bub i lost 9kgs - without trying it just happened!
I only put on 4 kgs each time with my first two. But then I was big to begin with. And my doc said this was fine.
Its all relative. And I think Docs will look more for a RAPID increase than the overall amount IYKWIM. If its has been a gradual gain it shouldnt be a problem, even if it does feel like a lot compared to your start weight.
i started all my preg at 84-86kilos
with dd1 my last weigh in at 35 weeks was 115kilo they estimated my wieght on the day i had her at 120+ as i had pre e and they wouldn't put me on the scales as they were scared nowing how much i had put on would raise my bp.
dd2 got to 115kilos at 39 weeks on day of induction (pre e again)
dd3 got to 100 kilos at 35 weeks not sure what was when gave birth at 41+2 but was 95 kilos when she was 2 weeks old.
To me as long as it is not over the top etc why worry.
I put on around 19kg (pre pg 56kg) - had an early arrival at 35wks though so who knows what I would have been if I'd made it to term. I wouldn't stress too much, I'm sure if you gain too much (or too little) your Ob would say something.
It really varies between people. Some people dont put on any weight and some people will put on 40 kg. I personally put on 3kgs, but I am small to begin with and I just dont put on weight anyway. Dont get too worried about it, its totally normal to put on weight, and if you put it on gradually then its no issue usually, but it can indicate other issues if you put on all the weight at once.
is it strange that i have never been weighed or asked about my weight?
at 15 weeks was first time i saw midwife and she simply asked me what my weight was which was 67kg.
Since then, no doctor, midwife, OB has recorded/checked my weight. Thats why im worried.
My husband saw me on the scales today and he was like woah 83kg, thats a lot. Made me realise yes its quite a bit of weight at 30 weeks and it keeps going up.
Anyway, have a appointment next week and will ask about it.
My first pregnancy with DD I started at about 78, which was heavy for me and just before I delivered I was about the 100 mark. The next week I weighed in at 80 - It seems like it was all fluid - I just peed like you wouldn't believe that week. This time at 13 weeks i've put on about 2.5 already. I've read all the books and from what I can learn, the weight gain varies between 5 and 25 kgs but averages at 10-12. Have a chat with your carer and they should make sure you are ok.
Good luck!
The hospital I'm going thru never even weighs anyone anyway I think as long as bubs is growing and you don't swollen they won't worry.
I know everyone is so different, I put on 9kg with DD but another girl I worked with who was 5kg less than me to start with had put on 30kg with her DD. Mostly fluid. So can vary alot.
As everyone has said, there is no right or wrong. I put on 30kg in first pregnancy and 10kgs in the second. This time i have actually lost 6kgs(most likely more) and not gained any and im 34 weeks.
I started at 82kg (was in the process of trying to lose weight) then dropped to 79kgs in the first trimester. I am now about 87kg and the doc has said he doesn' want me to gain much more, but it all seems to be baby at the moment. I think unless your doctor is worried I would worry too much. If you were small to begin with then I'm sure you'll bounce back.
I put on 22 kgs with DS and 23 kgs with DD.
Both pregnancies I ended up at 96kg - seems to be my magic number ;)
Its quite normal that you have not been weighed because research has shown that in general weight gain in pregnancy is irrelevant, you can gain or lose wight without it necessarily affecting your bub or pregnancy.
I put on 35 kilos iwht my first pregnancy. I dont know how much I've put on so far ths time becuase Im not weighing, but I do know I am eating a lot better overall, so Im not fussed about it.
average is 6-16 kilos but it depends. Smaller people tend to put on more weight than larger people for some reason.
im 40 weeks & 3 days pregnant, and iv gone from 50kg to 78kg........im trying not to focus on the weight gain for now....... as long as my son is born healthy, thats the main thing!
:shhh:
it really is varied.
With Jaidan I went from 60 to 93!
With Chase I put on 23kg
With Ashton I put on 6kg (and he was 5kg so there wasn't ANY extra weight)
If your eating well, and feel good, then don't worry about the scale ;)
Thanks for your replies, it's reassuring
Did you all loose the weight after baby was born?
The only person who has asked me about my weight gain has been my mother
My ob hasn't asked or weighed me at all. Didn't even want to know my pre-preg weight. I asked when I'd put on about 8kg in the first tri (cause it felt like a lot for only a couple of months) and he said that there was such a wide variation/range considered to be normal that "we don't really focus on weight or monitor it much anymore".
Like others have said, as long as your weight gain has been gradual and steady each week your body is doing what it is supposed to! Try not to focus on the numbers and pay attention to what you eat instead. That is what I am trying to do and I have managed to resist weighing myself for weeks now!
Honestly if your DR isn't worried then you shouldn't be! It's that simple. I am huge for my size but we know I am carrying a big baby and he is cushioned with heaps of fluid as well. So far I have put about 10kg on and I only have one more day to go so I am not worried. It took 9 months to create a human so I reckon 9 months is a good time to TRY and get back to where you were before that and to be honest your body should have changed shape during pregnancy ie; hips and curves more pronounced to support your growing needs for a toddler etc.
Your a beautiful women who is blessed with child. Enjoy it and live healthy and all will be good.
Hey.
There are lots of factors that determine how much weight you will gain during pregnancy and what you eat is just one of them. Your age, race, height and pre-pregnancy weight all influence how your body is going to change whilst being pregnant. The one thing you can be sure of is that you will put on weight. well hopefully!
With my first son i started at 72 dropped to 65 (due to bad morning sickness) then at birth i weighed 78, two days later i weighed 63...
This time round i started off at 74 and at 25 weeks Ive only put on 3 kilos so far... but alot of ppl say that you put on the most kg's in the last trimester.
As long as your eating healthy and nutritious food and doing some light exercise.
Last time i lost the baby weight that day i think mostly due to fluid. remember not all the weight you put on is just baby and fat.. the placenta, your blood volume increases, amniotic fluid ect, all this contributes to your weight gain.
I put on 20kg with my first pregnancy and I am tiny! But I ended up having a big bub, and also mild polyhydramnious. I was 47kg pre preg #1 and without really trying after the birth dropped to 50kg within about 2-3 weeks ... I breastfed and walked everywhere pushing the pram cause I didn't have a car ...
With the next 3 babies, I lost weight in the first 2 trimesters because of morning sickness but still suffered with polyhydramnious ... I think I put on about 10kgs each time by the time of their births (all 3 came early too) Now I have lost weight, but not really toned up IYKWIM? But I don't really get much of a chance to exercise, so ....
Like the others have said, don't stress about it  You are growing a beautiful little human being!!
nope didn't loose it all lol I WISH! I am on a mission now to loose some! I was 60 before I had my first and to get back there I have to loose 15kg, that is just excess crap that I have been too lazy to try and loose, I am sure if I added daily exercise that I would be able to do it :)
Really, don't stress over weight gain hun, it's normal!
I started at 73kg, by 30 weeks was about 83kgs then did not weigh myself again until after the birth. My OB did not weigh me at all throughout the pregnancy. I did carry alot of fluid in my legs, you couldn't see my ankles anymore.
2 weeks after the birth I was back down to my prepregnancy weight, and I my ankles looked like sticks (I have always had kind of chubby ankles). I was hoping that my ankles would stay skinny but it was not to be.
Hi
With my son a put on 20kgs after he was born I lost some. My weight fell off breastfeeding. I ended up being slimmer than before I had him. I am hoping it will happen again this time around. I have a while to go yet.
Best of luck
hi
I'm 34 weeks and have put on 12kg so far, all baby though, just a bit of excess on the legs and butt I think. I'm going to breastfeed again though, so if its the same as the others it should hopefully come off quite soon.
I put on 18kg with DD and lost it all plus some more by around 10m after her birth - although I lost 10kg straight up the other 8 stayed around a bit longer.
This time I have put on 14.5 at 33 weeks so am on track for about 18kg once again. Hopefully I will lose it all like last time.
