I am really struggling at the moment to think of a gift for our 3yo DD from the baby when it arrives in the next few weeks. One of the issues is that the baby is due close to DD's birthday so she will be getting a lot of gifts anyway. Also she has got so much stuff that I don't want to get her something big or bulky that will take up a lot of space.
Sooooo people - any ideas for me????

We got my daughter a doll so that she could do the same things with her baby that i would be doing with our bub. Plus we knew we were having a boy but noone else did and she was adament that it was a girl baby and wouldn't except a boy, but now things are of course different she loves him to death. So we bought her a interactive boy baby. My daughter wil be 4 in Feb so around the similar age. They love to be mothers so a baby is always good.
My sister got her boys cars from the babies when they arrived but she has all boys.
Gooduck with your upcoming birth and deciding on a pressie for your daughter.:)
I was also going to suggest a doll. Buy the doll a change of clothes, nappy, cot etc so she can do the same as what you do with your baby.
We organised it to so both toddler (2&1/2yrs old at the time) and newborn gave each other a gift - we got a pair of soft cute toys and they gave each other one - so the same but different :) Also, I took DD#1 out to choose another gift all by herself for the baby and then got her to 'wrap' it (using the term "wrap" rather loosely, lol)
IL's had the baby doll organised which DD#1 loved! I also think those beautiful books on becoming a big sibling and about babies entering their world's are gorgeous and can be like keepsakes :)
The dolls are a good idea but she does already have 2 baby dolls with cot, highchair, pram and change of clothes. If I go down that path she might not see it as something special IYKWIM.
We didn't bother LOL. The baby was the gift for him ;) He got gifts from other people when they brought a gift for the baby anyway.
True Liz - also probably knowing little miss too smart for her own good will ask how the baby went to the shop to buy something before it was even born ;)
nai - the baby got dd1 a locket ... only to wear for special times, she can put photos of us/the baby in there.
she loves it, but she is 7, not sure if your little one would appreciate that just yet?
nai i have been thinking too about just this!! im going to get DD a doll as she only has one anyway and either buy or make a sling for her to wear and
i would get a big sister card, and probably something to keep - jewellery (a bracelt or something) comes to mind...

My daughter had about 4 dolls before she received the one from Jaylan and she now just relates this doll to jaylan as we took it to the hospital with us and that is where she received it. she even named her baby jaylan and whenever i feed him in the first couple of weeks she feed her jaylan, whenever i changed him etc she did the same, but she is nearly 4 so it may be a bit different.( sorry i thought they were close in age...a year apart)
She bought jaylan a special sheep that she picked out by herself the day after jaylan was born. She also helped daddy pick the special going home outfit for jaylan.

Is there somewhere I can look at an interactive baby doll?? Never heard of them, but sounds interesting and I was contemplating getting Oskar his own baby too... yes I know he's a boy...lol.:
Our DS was much younger, but his baby brother brought him one of those magnetic sketchers. It was a real hit as it was something he could play with in the hossy when he visited, as well as take home. He still loves it over 2 years later LOL!
There are some great books out there about babies...
I read a gorgeous one last year and sent it to my SIL - can't remember what it was called but I'm going to go back to the same shop again and hopefully find it for this bub to give DD when it arrives. It went through the baby's 'experience' of being in-utero, then of being born. It was from a Christian shop, but while it had kind of a spiritual reference, it wasn't necessarily religious. I thought it was just lovely and I wish I had've bought an extra copy at the time!
Success!! I ordered a book for her called "I'm a Big Sister" for when she actually does become a big sister (there's also the I'm a Big Brother for boys).
We were also tossing up if we should get her one of those kiddie cameras so she can take her own photos but the last week she has been constantly playing doctors with her teddies so we are getting her a Fisher Price Medical Kit. She loves helping our OB take my blood pressure and find the baby's heartbeat so I think she will love it. :D
nai we have one of those medical kits DD loves it!! listens to bubs all the time!! takes her temp etc..
what about a little name bracelet or broach, which you could get engraved from her new sibling.

Great idea!!! We got Matilda fish.... sounds funny I know, but the baby brought home fish!!! It was amazing... Pete brought Matilda to pick us up from the hospital and when we got home the fish were there! The week I was due we filled up the tank in anticipation for the baby to bring the fish.... it was something to take away Matilda's focus on the baby.
Looking back, I think a book or doll might be more tangible and a better option, but thats what we did.
We got both ds and the baby a gift from each other today - we got 2 glow teddies, a blue one for ds and a purple one for the baby. They glow for 30 minutes before turning themself off.
