I have tried a kozy carrier and loved it however i ended up with a babyhawk brought of ebay. Though if i was gonna buy another one i would get the kozy, have tired an ellaroo but didn't find it as comfy for me.
Do you know anyone with either to try first.
thanks sweat pea - no i dotn know of anyone with either, makes it so much harder!
i have an ellaroo and LOVE IT! love the fact that i can pop it into my bag and bring it out when needed.
ITH. :)
thanks calciuss- do you wear it for long periods?
that ones on special so $$ wise id rather get that, the other one just looks a little snugglier!
if only we had internets that you could touch and feel!
i wear it alot when i am out shopping and DD has had no probs falling asleep in it. although now that she is older and doing less naps that's no longer on the cards. i have worn it the longest i think for a 2 hour stretch (took it off for feeds and coffee breaks though!). but we have done whole days without a pram and just used that ITH...
te he he...yeah we soo need an internet like that! also a try before you buy would be soo awesome!
Kitt3n,
Where about do you live maybe you could meet up with some people who have them.
Try googling baby carriers down under.
sweatpea - seeing as you have tried both - is the ellaroo as wide as it looks? just seems that the kozy would be much nicer between baby's legs?
I found the kozy skinnier to me. but when bub is little you froggy their legs in it.
just thought i would let you know there is an ellaroo mei tei on ebay
Kitten - don't know much about the ellaroo MT, but I can tell you a bit about the Kozy. They are renowned as a supportive MT for older babies and toddlers (although they are still good for younguns) - they are tall, but also have quite a wide body and the shoulder strap angle is quite deep, meaning that they are better suited to those with broader shoulders. If you are of petite build you may find a CatBirdBaby MT a better fit. CatBirdBabys are a narrow angled carrier that is great for younger babies, but some find them less supportive for older babies/toddlers. From what I have read, BabyHawk fits into the niche somewhere between the two.
I personally didn't find a Kozy to be the most comfortable carrier for me - the body was too wide and consequently gaped (or the shoulder straps felt like they were going to slip). There is a fix to this, which is to twist the shoulder strap at the body junction, which narrows the body.
Those that love Kozys (and there are MANY that do), say that they are brilliantly supportive workhorse carriers.
suse, i was hoping you would be along! This sling business is just doing my head in!
Thankyou for the above info - now I was all set to go and purchase the Kozy .... but now I am not sure, I do have very narrow shoulders! Quite petite in the shoulders, hips and butt are a different story ;)
With the catbirdbaby - do you mean the mei tai or the piccolo? I cant seem to find anyone in Australia who stocks the mei tai and the piccolo is very exxy - if I was 100% certain the piccolo was the way to go then its money well spent, but I am learning that slings/carriers might look and sound great, but its not till you have used them for at least half an hour that you can decide if they are right for you!
I have seen pics of the Kozy tied with that twist - was wondering why so thanks for that tip.
Do you know of anywhere here who stocks the catbirdbaby?
kitt3n,
Where abouts do you live, as there is a group of people who chat on baby carriers down under and have regular sling meets so you could try a few out. I did this first. There are cat bird mei tai on ebay at the moment to.
thankyou sweet pea! i have placed bids - i'll see if there is a meet near me too, would love to meet some like minded people :)
Kitten - like sweetpea said - google baby carriers downunder and join the google group. They have a loaners database that has both a catbirdbaby mei tai and a Kozy in it, you could probably try both. They have an instock list and can sometimes order in certain things as well if what you are after is not on the instock list. The guy who started the group is in Brissie, and they have monthly sling meets there, but some of the members also organise meets from time to time in other states. But you don't need to go to the meets to utilise the loaner database.
ETA: I just saw your other question - I meant the catbirdbaby mei tai. The pikkolo is similar in shape/fit, being made by the same company, the main difference being that the pikkolo is a buckled carrier and the mei tai is... well, a mei tai LOL.
I had an ellaroo MT but sold it pretty much straight away.
I didn't get the deluxe and not having the head rest was a real problem for us.
In the end I'm glad I sold it and I got another ergo. I really love the ergo. No dragging bits on the floor.
If you do get a Mei tai, the one with the head rest would be better. imo
I have an ergo, babyhawk and thinking of another. love ergo for back carriers but not front carriers.
kitt3n - Im trying to suss out mei tais. Why are you not considering the babyhawk? Just wondering if there is some good reason I should be aware of ;)
babe i am considering everything to tell you the truth!
I just brought a himmel and love it (its another mei tai one) though i love my 3 carriers for different reasons.
We have an ergo and Im hoping a BH or similar mei tai will be quicker and easier for around home. Also not so hot - the ergo with the infant insert is too hot right now! I want to feel bubs in closer to me also which the ergo with insert dosent.
Im thinking of getting the babyhawk but not keen on the designs available - not many stockists in Australia :( And as i want one yesterday I dont want to order from o/s and wait up to a month.
I did see one today available in Aus, 'parents of invention' it about $60 on special. Seems to be a USA brand that they sell over there at toysrus...
Why are the BH so much cheaper than the ellaroo and Kozy??
Sweetpea - the himmel looks nice! but at that price I wont be getting one since we payed that for our ergo recently.
salsa - i didnt know there were stoclists in australia?
i want one YESTERDAY too!
and the catbirdbaby - but that has buckles dosent it?
Wrigglebots stocks them but they are out of them.
there is ababy hawk on ebay end in just over an hr.
i brought the himmel second hand
I see a black and blue BH that ends on the weekend - is that the one?
yeah it is sorry i read it as 1hr instead of 1 day
Catbirdbaby make both a mei tai, and a SSC (soft structured carrier - ie: one with buckles) called the Pikkolo.
Out of curiosity, why do you particularly want a mei tai - what benefit do you see it having over the Ergo? Do you find the Ergo uncomfortable (often a reason to use a mei tei, they are more adjustable and often more comfortable). Or do you hope to use the MT whilst your bub is little, then use the Ergo more as a toddler carrier (which is where the Ergo excels)? If that's the case, the catbirdbaby is an excellent carrier for babies, as it has a cinch strap that allows the bottom to be cinched in, making it possible for very young babies to be carried legs out.
You mentioned that you thought a mei tai would be quicker and easier around the house - I wouldn't say that a mei tai is quicker as such, although once you get the hang of tying it is just as quick as an Ergo, but it wouldn't be quicker. You also mentioned that you would get a pouch, but didn't want a non-adjustable carrier. Have you considered a ring sling?
Re: the parents of invention carrier - judging by the way the baby is positioned (ie: supported by the crotch, which is not recommended as an ideal carrying position) it does not look comfortable for either baby or wearer. Personally I would not buy one.
There are not too many good mei tais that are consistently available as in-stocks in Aus, so be prepared to order. I would suggest buying based on what is going to work best for you rather than on immediate availability. You could try brindabella baby, they do have other things in stock to what is on their website. I think they have a couple of Mei Favourites on their ozebaby store.
brindabella baby are great...she is based her in canberra and she let me try on heaps of carriers. if you contact her she has other carriers that are not on her sight to.
I actually find that I can get my Baby hawk and himmel on fairly quickly but the ergo is quicker.
I mainly back carry and on hot days so far find the baby hawk the best but have only had the himmel for a few days. I can also feed in the bh and himmel but have not managed to in the ergo.
If I could talk dh into letting me get another carrier it would me a mei favourite.
I want a mei tai for round home, so baby is upright (ergo newborn insert doesnt allow this), and not as bulky and hot as the ergo (insert adds both bulk and heat).
Both me and dh had been orignially wanting a HAB before we even got pregnant but then we decided it would be too hot for a summer newborn and it would not be a quick option for putting on.
Im not sure why, but ringslings just dont seem appealing, but I did see a very nice one just now on the brindabella site.
I actually started a thread about this yesterday...sorry Kitt3n, hope you dont mind the slight intrusion on your thread.
If you are thinking of something cooler and more lightweight for summer, the catbirdbaby would be a good option, and I think one of the Mei Favourites on brindabella baby's Ozebaby store is a solarweave one, which is a very lightweight fabric. It offers UV protection and dries quickly (if you want to wear it at/in the pool or shower).
Could be a good option for you :)
Just thought I would pop in and say that there are Kozy's coming in the next few weeks and hopefully CBB Mei Tais as well.
The reason you will be seeing some carriers cheaper than others at the moment is mostly because the cheaper ones were bought when the exchange rate was good....at the moment it sucks and you can expect Australian suppliers to to be upping prices across the board on anything they import from now on..just a heads up, if you see it cheap get it now!!!
no worries salsa!! i need all the info i can get before i take the plunge - i am so hesitant to order another one incase its not right!
I do LOVE LOVE LOVE my HAB though.
I am leaning toward the catbirdbaby.
Mel, thanks for the heads up - I wish i had hopped on to your store when you still had things in stock!
Oh, thanks Mel. I couldnt understand why imported items could be cheaper here than buying direct from the US...should have realised
Does anyone think the BH, catbird or others would be too hot or bulky? Just thinking of what Suse suggested.
I was using a Jazz sling but moved on to an Ellaroo at Christmas. I just love it and use it for back carries and side.
I have tried the solerweive one that brindbella baby have on ther ozbaby store and that would be the one i would get if going for a fourth. it is a buckle carrier, and can be used in water to.
...so no one is thinking its daft if I get a BH when I already have an ergo? Im about to order on but dont want to make a mistake....DH says it dont matter if I do I can stick it on Ebay ;)
I think I will get a pouch or ringsling too
Hi Salsa,
I don't think your daft. I have an ergo, bh, himmel, home made ring sling and another 2 home made ones lol.
 ...what do you use them all for? Do you think the BH will hopefully work well for a round home hands free option? Im not so sure it looks so good for putting on at the shopping mall? But I`d probably use the pram or buy a sling for that anyway.
well, i jumped in and bought an ellaroo from nursing angel ($105 on sale, over $140 everywhere else)
I am also bidding on ebay - maybe we are all bidding against each other??!!!
