Belly button rings
Hi there... I know generally speaking you are meant to remove your belly button ring when you develop a bump. If I have to I'm more than happy to take it out, but I did that a few years back and the hole never went away, so I ended up getting it re-pierced because I thought that looked better than just the hole sitting above it.
Anyway, I have come across these maternity belly button rings which are made of a flexible plastic type material which are supposedly safe to wear all the way through your pregnancy. They're quite a bit longer than your standard one so there is room to grow and because they are flexible they aren't meant to cause any tearing etc.
Just wondering if anyone else has used one of these before and how you found it... Also, what happened to it when your belly button popped?

You can leave your belly button ring in all the way through if it suits you and is comfortable. Personally I had to take mine out when I was pg with Oskar at around 5/6 months cos it was rubbing and started to get a bit infected on and off and was getting quite uncomfortable. I never put it back in and being pg again now will consider it (prob have to re-pierce) after this bub is born etc.

i left mine in with dd, and to be honest, i forget that i still have it pierced!... lol
i have a very.. umm whats the word.. un-deep (LOL) piercing, its like 3mm worth of skin, so i just had a sleeper in it. i dont know how its managed to grow out so much, then stop where it is! i have a regular ear stud in it all the time, ill put a sleeper in once i start to expand :)
ETA: once my belly button has gone completely flat.. it looked like a surface piercing with a sleeper in it!

I haven't worn my belly ring in about 7 or so years and my piercing is still open... mmm flexible belly rings... when I have a bump to show off it might look nicer than just the hole he he he

I took mine out a couple of weeks ago as it started getting caught on my clothing and my belly button had popped. I was going to get those flexi bars off ebay but then I thought I'd just thread my belly bar through the hole every few days to keep it open and it's been working fine for me :) No need to spend extra money!

Hi Miss excited,
My midwife showed me one of those flexi bars, she actually kept one on hand to show people because she was asked about it so often!
Unfortunatley, that was after I had already taken mine out because I thought I had to!
I'd had it for 10 years too :( Don't take it out unless you must!!

I used the flexable one when pg with DD.
I had no problems with it even when my BB popped. You can also keep it in (the flexable one) if you need to have a c/s.
Lots of awesome coloured stones etc to choose from.

You don't have to take it out unless it becomes uncomfortable. I've left mine in for both of my pregnancies and plan on doing the same this time. It was just never an issue (and I was HUGE with DS)

I used those flexible ones with DD then that got uncomfy at about 8 months so took it out, my hole never closed over tho.

Hey miss excited,
I've had my belly pierced for about 5 yrs and I just took mine out, my bb hasn't popped yet but it was starting to strain and worry me, mind you I had a large guage (thickness) horseshoe ring in which was quite close to surface so it prob would have receeded out and left a messy scar. Im not planning on putting it back in, im sure after bubs is born ill be far 2 busy doing other stuff and not feeling confident enough to go bare midriff lol.
I have always had probs with plastic bars cause I like to fiddle with the piercing and the threads on plastic bars are pretty crap so was forever loosing the balls off the end!

I just took mine out with all three of my pregnancies between 4 & 7 months. My hole never bothered closing over.I did have to force it back in, though. I'd had it done for about 2 years with DD1.
I've had it in for 9 years now.
A friend of mine used a plastic one. She still has it for her next bub. She swears by them. Apprently you can cut them to your size or something?

I've had to take mine out each time as it ends up getting sore :(
But I found it easy enough to repierce once bub was born. Start off with a thin earring like one with a shepherds hook and slowly stretch it to a sleeper, then the barbell. Lasinoh is good for helping it to slip through too.

I've just changed my piercing from a normal one to one of the plastic pregnancy ones. I found that as I was getting bigger the top section was rubbing on the skin of the top hole and causing irritation. Since putting in the plastic one it's cleared up completely. It's very comfortable even though my belly button has half-popped :)

I had mine since I was 17 when I was pg with Jack was 32 when he was born I changed it too a flwxible one around 6mths :) kept it in took it out for c-sect midwife put it back in on day 3 it was only when jack was around 8 mths and crawling that he grabbed it that I took it out and left it out
but yeah oh so comfy

I have had mine for about 9 years, and took it out when I was about 34 weeks, just cos it was starting to get a bit itchy at times so I thought maybe the skin was getting irritated. Every now and again I put it back in for a couple of hours just to make sure the hole doesn't close over.
I didn't have any problems when my belly button starting stretching, but now that the ring is out and all the skin is tight, it's quite ugly. There's obviously a bit of scar tissue around the hole that you usually can't see, but now it's all purple and yucky looking. Hope it goes back to normal after bubs is born!

Thanks for all the tip girls! I got one of the flexible maternity ones and it seems to be working well at the moment. Guess I'll just see how it goes...
-
I took mine out at about 20 wks because it was getting uncomfy. Anyway, I just put the ring in last week to check if it was still open and it went in easy.
