Just curious about where you were when you went into labour. Were you home, out shopping... any funny stories?
My story is exceptionally boring but I went into labour after a beautiful sleep at 630am, DH had a shower whilst I packed my bags during the contractions - off to the hospital and DS was born at 1130am :) Back in our comfy bed that night at 10pm and DS slept all through the night :) We couldn't believe it when we woke up to the quiet bassinett next to us, we panicked at first but then he yawned - so cute!
Good luck with your birth! I hope you're as lucky as I was!
With DS1 I was at home, it was late afternoon and we had just DTD :p when I started to get very strong braxton hicks which wouldn't go away so I called the hospital as I was only 31 weeks and they told me to come in. I was in early labour and hypertensive so they kept me in hospital and he was born at 32 weeks.
With DS2 I was at the movies watching Shrek the Third in the afternoon when I started to get a lot of lower back pain. That night after cooking dinner and just about to sit down to it I felt a huge wave of nausea come over me and new it was time!
Good luck.
Home both times. First was 7pm at night, second about 2.30pm in the arvo. But didnt really pick up until late.
I was at home in bed both times. (Not very interesting sorry :p) Bizarrly (is that a word?) I went into labour at exactly 4am both times!
I was at home both times. With DD1 I had MIL and SIL over helping to clean up the house as I was booked for induction that day, but I didn't need the induction. With DD2 I started getting irregular contractions while DD1 was up. It didn't step up to active labout until she was fast asleep for the night and when I was up to 5 minutes apart and 1 minute long we called the ILs and headed to the hospital.
My waters broke at Coles! Right in the middle of the shopping part
In bed both times. DD1 at midnight and DD2 at 1am.
i was in the hospital.. sadly i was induced the first time!
All 3 times ive been at home...boring!
I'm boring too sorry. My waters broke at 1am in bed but I went into labour in a birth suite as I had to be induced.
Tucked up in bed all three times.
My waters did break with DS on BIL's bed though.
I think its an amusing story.
MIL & FIL were fighting the night before, so when he tried to wake her up to tell her what happened she thought he was having a go at her & told him where to go. As soon as she heard my voice she jumped up though!
I was staying with them coz I lived 2 hours away from the nearest hospital.
At home both times for me.
I always wondered if I'd be out somewhere and my waters would break. I kinda wished my waters had broken by themselves, but both times they didn't.
On the couch asleep at 2am. Woke up to go to the toilet and noticed my undies were drenched. Thankfully none on the couch.
DD labour started at 5am in bed, went to hospital at 11am & had my waters broken when contractions were about 1-2 mins apart (dont know why they didnt break on their own?)
DS I was booked for an induction but they broke my waters first & labour started on its own from there
So I'm another very boring one, thankfully for me LOL
At home in bed. Very boring!
at home but i was chatting on bb in the chat room...
first was in hospital i was induced second was in the shower at the hospital which is were ds1 was born and last was while putting washing in the dryer at home.
I was bawling my eyes out. Water was gushing everywhere ( I was all water). The security guard (old woman) was mortified and didn't know what to do.
Coles kindly donated a bright pink towel which Dh wrapped around me (how embarrassing!!)
Then they called an ambulance after the water had stopped gushing and was just slowly leaking and then I went in for my c/s (breech bub).
Not sure who had to clean it though!
Was a funny story. So many people congratulating us and wishing us well.
I remember that now Danni :). Let's hope this time is a little less eventful, LOL!! My girlfriends broke in Kmart and she didn't have to clean it up. They too gave her a towel and said it was ok to head straight home. She was continuously offering to clean it up. She was so embarrassed.
my waters started to leak in bed! lucky it wasnt a gush. labour didnt start til the next day when i was induced.
i have to admit im very scared of my waters breaking this time whilst out shopping :o
Don't be scared! Looking back now, it is HILARIOUS! It is such a good story, and such a good memory.
Hi,
With my DS contractions woke me at 2.40am. I got to the hospital at 7.00am and he was born at 10.58am.
With my DD my water broke in the frozen food isle at Woolworths while I was reaching in for the frozen corn. I felt her move and then a gush.
I did a quick check to make sure there was no one around and it wasn't enough to make a puddle. I rang my husband and told him to get home. I only had a few more things to get so I quickly grabbed those and I rang my obstetrician while I was at the checkout, who told me to get to the hospital. My DH still laughs at me because when he got home I was unloading the shopping from the car. He put all the cold stuff away while I packed my bag for hospital.
My water broke just before 5pm and she was born at 12.15am.
A few weeks later my DH was cooking dinner and he said to me there was no frozen corn, and I laughed and said 'Yes there definitly is!!'.
Danni- I agree with you. At first it is embarrasing but now it makes a great story.
Monica
Monica, How could you have just kept walking? Was it just a slow leak or hind waters?
Mine gushed out litres and litres and I couldn't walk anywhere for about 25 mins til it all stopped
With DD1 my labour started in hospital after induction.
With DD2 my labour started somewhere between picking up DD1 from family day care/making dinner/bed time routine and eating dinner with DH. I noticed them going regularly once DD was asleep!! I'd had pains on/off all day but I was ignoring them.
I was at home both times. DS i was making DH a caramel slice and started getting mild contractions.. waters never broke. With DD was in the middle of the night (2.45am to be exact).. i woke up to feel a trickle, thought i better go to the toilet and check and as i stood up out it came.. my waters broke.
I went into labour at home watching movies (made myself sit through the whole movie before I went to hospital though ;) ) and had my waters broken for me. Not a great story huh?
Hmm... Dh and I went out to a party, came home at 2am and DTD. Turned the lights on afterwards and both of us were covered, knee to bellybutton, in bright red blood. Scariest thing I've ever seen.
48 hours later my labour 'offically' started at the hospital, just after they had sent me to the maternity ward because they were 'positive' I wouldn't go into active labour for another 12 hours.
Wow LoriRae how scary!!
Hi,
Danni- My waters didn't gush as much as yours initially. I wouldn't have finished the shopping if they had of. I was wearing a pad because the bladder wasn't working as well as it should at that stage ( I was 37 weeks) and I wanted to prevent any little accidents when I sneezed or coughed, so the pad was able to absorb what fluid had come out. My trolley was loaded and I only had about three more things to get. I did contemplate leaving but I checked and made sure it wasn't showing and it didn't look like I had wet myself so I decided to quickly finish it off. They broke just before 5pm and shops over here close at 6pm (it was a Wednesday) so their was no one waiting at the checkout so I knew it wouldn't take long. By the time I got home however it was coming out in gushes and the pad wasn't absorbing it anymore and it did look like I had wet myself.
I got to the hospital about 6.30pm and they induced me at 8.00pm to bring labour on quickly because I had lost alot of fluid.
This is a great thread I am enjoying reading everyone's experiences!
LoriRae- That is scary.I would have completely freaked out!
Monica
wow... I dont know how you contained yourself! I ws 37 weeks too so it was totally unpredicted! haha i love thinking back about it
wonder what will happen this time around?
Thanks for all your stories so far - they're really good! :D
I don't have my own story yet, but when my mum went into labour with my brother, my mum and dad were out for dinner at a restaurant. It was quite a fancy and expensive restaurant, so they stayed until they'd finished their meals!
I was at my OB appointment and didn't really know what is was I was feeling... had 4 contractions whilst in her office! Went home and staid there until the contractions were 2 mins apart before making the 35 min drive to the hossy... pretty boring really! :)
I was at home on sitting on an exercise ball (only way I could get comfy). Hubby rang me at 6pm after he'd just got out of the surf. I was only 36 weeks so wasn't really keeping an eye out for labour signs. I'd had bad back pain all day and said to him that I wasn't sure whether i could handle four more weeks of this back pain and as soon as I said that my waters broke in a huge gush! Luckily I had a towel on the ball cos it was so humid that day! I swore a bit and DH thought someone was breaking into the house. Once I finally got out what had happened he was home so fast! I'm so glad he wasn't still surfing when it happened! Will be interesting to see what happens this time!
My waters broke in bed at about 1am with both of my girls, only a trickle both times until I got to the bathroom then the flood gates opened lol
Like SaraRose my waters broke in bed at midnight on Halloween - and then the flood gates opened in the bathroom, in the car, when i got out of the car i left puddles, and wet puddles/footprints the whole way into the labour ward!!! Contractions started not long after my waters broke. I had what they called 'extended rupture of membranes' as DS was posterior and his head didn't block the exit lol. Every time they poked my belly more waters rushed out.
Mumma's&Bubba(s) ... i'm a tad like you though i awoke at 8.30am ... contractions started at 9am ... at hospital at 11am ... and Bubba born at 11.39am ;)
(My 1st baby at 40 ... so i stayed in hospital for 3nights as i had extreme high blood pressure )
DS#1 - I was at home when i went into labour!
DS#2 - I was at home aswell
#3 - umm will let you all know when it happens!
