How many wks were you when you had first baby?

Hi,

Hubby is going away before I am due and I am freaking out that he won't be home before I go into labour! Most people say they were 'late' with their first bub, but obviously there are those that go against the grain and have their first bubbies early.

How many weeks pregnant were you when you had your first baby?

DD1 I was 41+2, DD2 I was 40+1, I am thinking DD3 might be nice and come a few days early!! Good luck hun, how long before your EDD should he be back? Mine gets back 6 weeks before my EDD from a 3 month training course.

He's away for 3 weeks overseas and he'll be back only 4 1/2 weeks before my EDD! (35 wks + 5 days)

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep my little bubs inside me for as long as possible? I've heard that being totally relaxed helps - anything else? I'll accept any advice - witchcraft, hocus pocus, grandma's secrets to a long pregnancy etc. I know most people are ok with bubs coming a bit early but not when their hubby is out of the country!

If bubs comes more than 3 weeks before your EDD it will be officially classed ad Premature. If bubs is premature that is a medical emergency and if DH is away as defence (I think you once said he was) then they should send him home ASAP. Meanwhile it is worth setting up a support network incase bubs does want daddy home before he is supposed to be, but I honestly think that he will be home in plently of time.

My 1st Arrived at 36 weeks and 2 days, so 3 weeks and 5 days early!

My first arrived at 41+1 weeks which is actually the average time that first babies are born!

Apparently, I was 39+4 ( i had several due dates and thought I was 41+3, but he was def not over done)

39 weeks exactly

Claire was born at 38 weeks and 2 days. Lots of people said she'd be late and they were suprised when she came before 40 weeks.

I had my DS at 34wks, one day before I was to offiaclly start Mat leave. My DS decided to try and make an early entrance at 32wks. I was getting very uncomfortable contractions every 2 hrs for 12 hrs before I went to get checked out. They stopped the contractions with medication, but my Cv continued to ripen and DS head cound be felt on VE. Waters broke 10 days later, DS was induced 4 days later. I was happy to be induced, but I was not showing signs of infection so could have held him in for longer if I had wanted.

I agree with Alioops though about your DH getting emergency leave if you go into labour early. Just make sure you can either contact him or know who to call if he is uncontactable.

Thanks girls. Actually, DH is away overseas with friends and is not there for work (which makes it a bit harder for me to deal with!). He organised the trip before I fell pregnant. In fact, I was supposed to go too, but obviously can't now. At the time he paid for it, I was trying to be brave and told him I was fine with it all. The worst thing is that he is going to be on the move so it will be tricky for me to contact him if something happens early, and he needs two flights to get back home.

As for other support people, my best friend is away with her husband and kids for the same 3 weeks as DH (Nth Qld - I'm in Brisbane) and my other close friend has just had twins, so counting on her is not realistic. My mum passed away many years ago and my MIL lives 3 hours away! I have no sisters or SIL's that I can count on either. So it is down to a third friend to be my support, but she has a lot of her own commitments (2 kids, pregnant, has small business).

Now you can understand my concern...

In your situation, have you considered a doula? At least then you have someone you can count on for support regardless of which family/friends will be available?

I am sure that there are plenty of BB members that would be willing to help hun. I know I would if I was down there. Head to the meetups hun, and get your village to work for you ;)

I'll be around :) Except between the 27th of March and 8th April though which is probably that window of time that you're most worried about... darn - I love attending births and I want to be a doula too! Sorry - I realise this isn't actually a very helpful post... :wall:

My first arrived at 39+4 weeks

i was induced 9 days early but im sure she was gonna be late for sure.

I was 36+6

I was spot on 40weeks when my water broke (was already in pre-labour) and Byron was born just over his DD - so 40+1w for my first born.

My first came on his EDD so 40 weeks :)

42 weeks.

I was 41+1

DD was bang on 38 weeks.

36+5 here. Just take notice of any signs from 34 weeks on. I learnt my lesson there. I had REALLY bad back pain when I was 35 weeks but didn't take any notice of it because I truly believed that I was going to go full term. I had it again the day I went into labour. Just stay positive and keep thinking about keeping your baby in there. I'm a big believer in thoughts having an impact on what happens (mainly due to hormones etc). The day I went into labour, I thought, if this bub decides to come early, I'm ready. My waters broke that afternoon! Good luck hun. There's a slim chance that your bub will come early but a greater chance that you'll go to full term. I think having a doula is a FANTASTIC suggestion! xx

41 weeks but it was an elective c/s in the end, OB said he would have been another 10 days off being born

37- thank god!!

First bub was 42+6 weeks,i was induced & my labour was only three hours.

My bubba arrived at 41wks pregnant!

39 weeks and 6 days

i was 39 weeks with #1
37 with #2

38 + 2 but I was having serious BH the few days before.

i was 37 weeks 4 days when i had my son.

My DD was born at 39+4 I think

34+4 weeks

Membranes ruptured at 36 weeks & 4 days. Didn't go in to labour, had to be induced (3 days later), so

DD born at (exactly) 37 weeks

Both my babies were born at 40wks to the day

Blake was born at 36+2, but I was in hospital 2 times from 29-35 weeks with pre labour and other complications, so I assumed he would be early in the end.

33 weeks 4 days, I progressed very quickly once contractions started 45min after waters broke, 7-8 cm by the time I got to hospital so no time to slow/stop the labour.
