Layla Sayle
Leila Sayle
I think Layla. It is such a beautiful name!
They are both really beautiful names, we really liked Layla also but in the end took it off the list as Eric Clapton's iconic song kept coming into our heads when we mentioned it...
we just couldn't go with "got me on my knees Layla"
I am sure that others wouldn't feel it was a problem and I hope I don't offend you or any other Layla's/parents of Layla's out there, but that was just our feeling.
For that reason I would go with Leila - assuming you pronounce it lee-la.
If not - stick with Layla, there could be some confusion with the pronunciation of Leila!!
I love both names ... Probably Layla as a first choice :D
My sister use to live in a street named Leila and we often commented on what a pretty name it would be for a girl
My favourite is also Lyla (a bit different there) ;)
I like Layla for spelling
Layla is a favourite of mine
I would pronounce Leila as 'lay la' and I like Leila better, think it looks prettier. Plus, if you're going with Sayle, it depends on whether the name's too 'y'ish for you? But in all honesty that's coming from someone who only likes y's in names when they're the traditional spelling (eg. I'm not advocating for Eevonne or Anthonee).
It's a lovely sounding name though. What spelling are you leaning towards?
A friend recently called her daughter Layla. So pretty. She preferred the sp. Leila but was concerned people would pronounce it 'Leel- uh' or 'Lee-luh'.
An alternative sp. could be Laila (but maybe this would be mispronounced 'Lie -luh').
'Layla' is definately unambiguous.
It is a pretty name no matter how you decide to spell it.
Definately Leila !! (just lovely!!)
I prefer Layla!!
Such a pretty name.
I like both but Leila looks better with your last name- as both Layla and Sayle have the 'ay' in them. When I see them written togather the 'Lay & Say' stand out to me.
Have you considered;
Laila Sayle
Laela Sayle
Leyla Sayle
Personally I would be going for one of those options, or the aforementioned traditional Leila.
Goodluck deciding.
X
I really like Layla.
xx
Thank you all so much for your opinions.
I do think layla doesnt look good with sayle
But, i am concerned Leila will be pronounced Lee-la.
I hadnt considered Laila, but perhaps it suits much better with Sayle.
I think Layla is better as it's more obvious how its said but looks a little similar to your last name.
WhenI first read your post I pronounced them both Lay-lah. In saying that I prefer Leila.
I love Laila!! :)
I think the spelling Leila is very pretty. Although I admit when I first saw this name (not here BTW, elsewhere) I thought it was pronounced "Leigh-la".
Friends of ours have a gorgeous 6 month old called Leila but it's pronounced 'Leelah'. I thought it was 'laylah' and so did many others so it was very confusing! Anyway, to avoid any confusion I'd be inclined to stick with the more traditional spelling so Layla get's my vote. It's a gorgeous name!! :D
I prefer the spelling Leila. I think it's georgous. One of my best friends from college was named Leila.
In my mind, Leila is pronounced "lee-la" (like the Futurama character) and Layla is "lay-la"
The song is not actually about a prostitute, despite what many people think. The short version is, the song was written by Clapton during the time he was in love with Pattie Boyd, George Harrison's (then) wife, but specifically about "The Story of Layla and Majnun" which he was given while he agonised over whether to pursue Boyd or not. See this page for more info.
Anyway, I think Layla is prettier than Leila (regardless of how you pronounce it)
I really like that name. But I think Leila would go better with Sayle. I do prefer the spelling of Layla as it's more obvious how to actually pronounce it (if that's the way you want to pronounce it), but nevertheless, either way you go it's a beautiful name (: Good Luck xoxoxox
I agree with others that Leila is confusing in terms of pronounciation. My best friend in high school was Leila (pronounced Lee-la) & it did cause confusion.
I love your choice of name,
maybe you can just add a circumflex to the e in Leila, therefore spelling it L?ila to avoid the confusion.
I was thinking of T?la , if my baby is a girl, but im not completely sure on that.
I think Leila looks prettier :)
I think Leila is prettier, but I would pronounce it Lie-la. I would go with Layla if you wanted it pronounced Lay-la.
