Is this name too random?
Ok, even weirder now.
I kinda made-up a name (lol) which is a mixture of a name DH really likes (Casper) and a name I really like (Sebastian)...
Castian. Honest opinions???
DH and I both prefer the look of Castian to Kastian, as we somehow feel that 'K' is a feminine letter (no offence to anyone with K boy names!) However DH's first name starts with a 'C' so he thinks it will be a pain to receive 2 lots of mail with the same initials on them... I also thought that maybe Castian could be mis-pronounced Carrrstian- as in Castaway, when it is meant to be pronounced like the Bastian in Sebastian.
Ok- so throw me your honest opinions on this name, spelling, associations, whatever.
Thanks!

I like it!
But I like different names ;)
-
Not a big fan...but if you guys like it then you should go for it as it is your choice!
I do like the name Sebastian (but I love the name the name Casper!!!) :)
-
yea - go for it!
eta. i prefere it with a K.
-
I think I don't like it!
I would probably grow on me but it seems a bit too made up for my liking :)
-
Yeh. prefer the spelling Castian
Hey, how about Caspian (just made it up) ??
-
Casper reminds me of Casper the friendly ghost :S
its a bit weird for me, but its your child! :)
-
Um, to be honest, I think it does sound a little made up IYKWIM. I like the spelling with a C over a K. It reminds me of Canerserian (sorry not sure how to spell it, but if you know principle Skinner off the Simpsons, his real name, lol).
You and DH are the ones who have to love it, so if you do, go with it. You won't have to worry about another boy at school having the same name. :)
-
I'm not too sure about Castian, but I like Caspian. I think that is a (not made up) name. Not sure what it means or anything though, will have to google!
-
I have always loved the name Caspian and we even have it down as a middle name for if we have a boy one day. A cool combo is Caspian Drake.
I'm not a fan of made up names but i love Sebastian and Casper!!
-
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its hard to be different and have name not everyone else has...so having one that both you and DH made together means so much more and totally ROCKS!!!
-
I like it :)
Sounds like a version of Christian to me.
I do like it with K or C.
& I read it how you meant it too.
-
wow- you guys are like lightening. I love BB!!
Thanks for the honest opinions. Smiles4you - yes, it is a little like Prince Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia also...
-
I love it, but then i love love love diff names.
My DD's name i basically made up.. and DS well, he has a strange one too.. so...
I personally think, and from my experience, do not stress to much what other's think, honestly.. if you and dh love it and it feels right, and when bubs is born it suits, then that's all that matters!!!!
:D
all the best
-
I prefer Caspian (which he might get anyway if you call him Castian)... but I'm generally a fan of unusual names.
-
I love Caspian but I'm not really a fan of Castian
-
Oh, gee i'm a smart cookie ... i love the meaning of Caspian ... bit like my name meaning which is Little One ;)
And my DD name meaning comes from Cinderella  (though it was the name i liked not so much the meaning, LOL)
-
DH and I really like the name Caspian too, although for some reason when I look at it written I think of Capsicum....lol!
-
I like it.
And i read the name as you would want it pronounced.
-
I like Castian - the only reason I like Caspian better is because I love the Chronicles of Narnia, and think they're a really great thing to be named after - if you've never read them, definitely have a read, it might sell you on Caspian. :)
I also like Rilian and Tirian from Narnia too. If you like the name, go for it.
-
Im not sure on Castian.
Love Caspian...
Castian would probably grow on me, but it does sound made up
-
Some of the most common words and names were made up. Bubble was made up by Shakespeare. So really if you like it then use it!!
I immediately thought of the pronounciation how you explained it, and I honestly don't think it as bad as some (Brangelina or Apple anyone?). It does sound like a name, rather than a word so I think it is fine.
-
I think i have heard of castian before??? not sure were. maybe it was just similar.
Don't worry about kids teasing DH went to school with a cuneyt (said as jen-ate) but they tears his height not him name, kids are crule and they don't need a name to trigger it.
might google castian.
what middle Name?????
-
just had a quick look and there a few people named castian! both first and last names.
the more i say it the more i like it.
-
Thanks Kristy J- I too have come across a few Castians via google. Bastian is quite a common name in the US (thanks to the boy from Never Ending Story), so its only 1 letter different to that!
If DH permits, I would like the middle name Myles, so
Castian Myles perhaps?
PS- I see you have sons named Caleb & Sebastian - I like your taste!
-
I prefer Caspian to Castian but hey...your choice! I do love Sebastian though!
-
I don't like it. Sounds too made up to me. Sorry!
Aponi, I like Drake... that's my nephews name!
I really like uncommon names, I have Jaidan (wasn't common at the time  ), Chase Blaze and Ashton so all uncommon. I also have Jaxson and Levi for other kids picked out already lol
-
its different, not too bad.
-
Its actually not a made up name LOL! But I've always seen it as Castien and often as a last name :)
I think if you like it go with it... So much better than bizarre spellings IMO.
-
I dont love it to be honest. I think both Casper and Sebastian are nice though. And I REALLy like Bastion. Bas is a cute nickname too.
-
Not a big fan either, sorry. Sounds a bit too made up to me but at the end of the day it is yours and your DH's choice.
-
I don't love it because for some reason it brings up a vision of castaway or cast out. But Caspian is nice. Quite a romantic name. But you know lots of people dont like my DS's name so each to their own.
-
Castian reminds me of 'castanet'. I don't really like it, but it doesn't offend me either.
I do prefer Caspian though.
But, I really like Sebastian. Love the nn Seb and Bas. I also like Casper/Caspar.
-
Well it's going to get pronounced 'Cast-tian' (with the 'cat' sounds, not 'cast') by the majority of people so....it's nice! (honestly, the long 'ar' sound makes it sound a bit snobby and pole-up-bum)
For those that have suggested it, I think Casper is a LOVELY name but the poor kid would SO get called 'Casper The Friendly Ghost' for his entire schooling life (at least)
