I feel like i have tried everything.. nothing is helping :(

This is more of a vent.

Mia is still vomitting. Tried every formula, all the AR ones.. HA ones.. easy to digest ones. Tried solids.. now im trialing soy formula, but shes still vommiting. It was good yesterday (only about 20 spews, thats good for her) but today she has gone back to the same.. (average 45).

I get test results tomorrow to see if she is LI etc but surley if she was the soy would help???? hes testing for a few other things aswell.. Not a milk allergy but then again, if she had a milk allergy, wouldnt the soy help with that too.........

I feel your frustration... not about vomiting cos I don't get that.. but hearing them screech with pain when doing a poo isn't nice either :(

Did you try the goats milk formula?

I was just going to say try goats milk formula... Is she on Meds for the reflux?? or no cos there still testing... I have HEAPS of Zantac left here. ! opened but the other isnt opened. I got it so easily... Hope u can get hold of something that helps. Although if it is reflux nothing will realy stop the vomiting. It only really helps with the discomfort. My DS suffered bad GOR. Hope u get some answers from the BT. The solids helping at all??? Have you thought about trying the thickner with the soy milk???

Jess - i have tried everything. Yep she was on Losec but couldnt keep it down. She hasnt been on it for about 2 months. Personally i dont think its reflux, shes not in pain, she doesnt cry when she spews. She gets abit whingy coz it doesnt stop but thats about it. She has had toast, sweet potatoe, pumkin, brocolli, avacado. She even brings the toast back up with her spews. *sigh*

I havent tried goats yet. I need a formula that digests really easy, to get it out of her tummy before it comes back up IYKWIM. Does anyone thing Neocate would help with this?????? If not, my next step will be to try goats.

Do you girls think its worth me taking her to melb to get her stomach and stuff checked on the inside, to see if its a developmental problem????

Mel - are you going to try Neocate? I have noticed Mia's poo's have become abit more formed since being on the soy, which is a nice change from the yellow diahrea (sp). But i too think its heading to constipation. have you had her bowels checked? Mia had hers checked by the poo samples i think. MAyb something to look into?

Hollye, I don't think it's what she's eating/drinking that's making her vomit like that all the time. It sounds like she could have an issue with the sphincter muscle at the top of her stomach, like it's not closing and keeping food in her stomach, hence the constant vomiting. I would be taking her to get it assessed and see if that's what the problem is because the constant changing of her formula wont be doing her gut much good to start with kwim? Like you could try every formula on the market and still have this problem

how about lactogen??? my MCHN reccomended it with logan..

my bortehr was like that ended up being the valve at the top of his stomach wasnt colsing and allowing it all to come back up.

Hollye, take her to your GP first for a referral to a paed and go from there. But at some point you would probably have to take her to Melb if you don't have specialists in your area.

Just wanted to give big hugs Hollye. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be- and how much laundry you must do!

Hollye, my completely non medical first though was to agree with Trillian. I'd get a referral to a good paed, or eve a paediatric gastroenterologist, and Id travel to get to see a good one.

You could always ring up the RCH and see what they suggest as well.

How long have you been giving it between changes of formula?

shortest time i have given is a week.. and i wean her onto it slowly. Shes never been fussed with the change. Today she has drank 150 mls all day and shes throwing it up. She just wont drink it and she hasnt had any solids today (very busy day).

Do they recommend a certain time period for the changes? I wonder it it takes a certain time for their tummies to adjust?
I had success with goats milk formula, but it seems it answer isn't just in formula though. Hope you can get a referral for this soon, you can't go around wearing PVC 24/7.

i asked my doc about changing her to soy after a week on Karicare HA AR and he was fine with it. I know it doesnt seem the answer, but i need her to drink something. 150mls from 7am to 7pm isnt enough. Along with the spewing. If she doesnt get something into her shes going to end up in hospital so i dont feel like i have much choice.

I agree with the others if you have tried all of this stuff and still nothing then i would get her checked. Has she had a barrium meal test?

Also Just a quick story... My step dad lived with what he thought was GORD for 40 years and suddenly was convinced to get a check up and found he had a hiatus hernia. (not saying thats whats wrong) Just that without checking you can put up with this for a while and if there is a bigger issue OMG how bad would u feel if u didnt do everything to try to fix her up.

Can i ask... What colour is the vomit?? is it chunky or just like milk?? How long after a feed does she throw up.

Also is she drinking ANYTHING? i would be worried about dehydration is she is only having such a small amount of milk.

ahhh there it is!

Jess - the vomit is usually half digested.. so it gets to the stomach it seems. Its usually quite chunky looking and ranges from white to yellow. Has been like this since the day she was born.

I hope this gets cleared up tomorrow, or at least a start on the right track. It must be awful for you.
DS had issues with formula/spewing/reflux/pain too, it was a terrible time feeling like he wasn't getting anything.

my mum tells us all the time that with my sis it took her months to figure out NOT to burp her as she would vomit after a burp but if left she would just bubble along her self... iykwim?

yep i burp her after every feed. I dont let her down until she burps atleast twice. If i dont, she burps by herself and spews over herself, so ide rather burp her on my knee, and have cloths ready.

If you havent heard of it then i would say GET ONE.... Its a test that they go to determine reflux or other digestive issues. Basically bubs drinks a liquid in his formula and then u wait and then bubs lays down under an xray type machine and they see what happens. The liquid makes them able to see the digestive system working and determine if she is refluxing or if there is another issue. Your Peas should have organised one... Well at least mine did with DS for his reflux.

test results back, everything seems ok in the LI factor and everything else he tested for. Next step is to see another pead in shepparton but they cant get me in till after June so I called the RCH in Melbourne and they seem quite concerned and want me to get a refferal to see them assap (will get one tomorrow at 10am) and they will try and rush it through. If they cant they want me to take her to melb anyway and go through emergency.

Got a refferal today from my doc for RCH and he faxed it through. 10 mins later i get a phone call saying i need to take her to the RCH. Now i have an appointment for Tuesday at 3:45 pm. Im scared at what they are going to put her through :( what if we have to stay the night? they would let me stay with her right??????

I'm sure they will, but I know I would stay regardless of policy. She is just a wee wun!

Hollye, I'm glad you're getting some action on this finally. It's been so frustrating for you and taken so long to get anyone to listen.

DP has a friend who's eldest two children had reflux very badly and the second one needed an operation to stop the spews coming up and burning his oesophagus. It was a small twist in the oesophagus but he recovered very quickly and is perfectly fine now. Plus, I think his was needed because he wasn't properly assessed until he was over two years old and a lot of damage had been done.

I'm sure you get to stay with her when she's only so little, hun. :hug:

Hollye- they will definetly let you stay with her overnight. But only one parent can stay at nighttime. Hope everything gets sorted soon!

Oh Hollye Great news. I know it seems scary but you have been trying your best to get her help and its finally happening. Hopefully they can find the issie and get it solved. Poor Mia must be so sick of the vomiting by now. Its the most aweful thing. If u need a chat u know where to find me.

My DS has had 2 operations both only day surgury but they let you stay while they put them under then you go and wait and once they get to recovery you get called but usually only 1 of you at first. (not saying that your DD will need an op) My DS has also been kept over night and i was allowed to stay. Just try to relax and take it as it comes. Just think positively . So glad that things are finally being looked into. YAY...

Yes they should let you stay the night.

Hollye I suppose up until now, a part of you could think "well, she's probably just a really chucky baby and it will pass". But now that the hospital is concerned, it must suddenly feel very serious. I would be scared too. (i mean, today we had peter in for 5 hours of family day care- DH had to call after 1.5 hours to make sure he was ok! Can't imagine what hospital would be like!). What you're feeling sounds completely normal.

I guess the one thing that would comfort me is the feeling that I was no longer alone. You know those times when you really feel something is wrong with your child and you don't know what to do or who to ask, and you feel like no-one is taking you seriously? I'm sure you've been through those with Mia and her vomiting. That's a horrible feeling. At least now help is on the way. She will be in great hands.

I know its worrying that the hospital is so concerned, but I'm sure if they thought she was in any imminent danger, they would have told you to come straight away, not even wait until next week.

You're doing a great job. I hope you get some sleep tonight!

At the end of the day hun, someone is taking it as seriously as you are. It's a step to resolving this - she won't be on her own, mummy will be there and thats all that matters.
