Jess - the only way to help your paranoia is to take a test, thats what i did.
Sorry to say but I was changing pills and came off them for a month, we were very careful and used condoms all the time - and AF never arrived! we were preggers...
My close friend from back home was on the Pill and used a condom.
Sure enough - preggers!

Why don't you try NFP? (Natural Family Planning). In my experience, this is the most effective form of contraception. Its also very empowering to know when you are fertile and infertile and know when you can really 'go for gold' without the hassle of a condom, and then just engage in alternative forms of intimacy during the relatively short period that you are fertile. The average woman is only physically capable of falling pregnant 5 days out of every month (a few days prior to and during ovulation).
I have been using this method for years, both to acheive and avoid pregnancy and it is the most fun and effective by far. It is also wonderful to know that you are not taking any drugs that may harm your fertility in the long term.

Oh dear. Well, if there is anything baking away, its too early for tests to tell, so I will just have to wait. I'm sure its nothing. Its just that I have this insane desire to eat big, heavy meals late at night after I've had dinner, and the only other time I've had that when was I was pregnant really, really early on with Peter. And my CM is really wierd. And I'm so tired. But it can all be explained in many other ways.

DH and I only used condoms for 5 or so yrs. i have only had one PG scare and I wasn't PG. One of my friends got PG in high school when her and her BF at the time had sex. She lost the baby very early tho. i know that doesn't help you but i think that as long as your DP knows how to use a condom properly then you should be fairly safe. if you are that concerned then you need to use a backup birth control or contraceptive.
I did. It was a brand new box in date and everything and now I have a 10 month old :doh:

Hun Miss Em was double contraception failiure, maybe even a triple contraception failiure. I had infertile CM, DH used a condom and I was on the minipill. If they are meant to be here hun, no amount of contraception will work. I know Em is a little miracle considering the number of things she had to get through.

I hate to be a party pooper, but really the odds are so tiny! I mean, you have about a 4 day window to fall preggers in a month, and if you used a condom during this time, you might have, say, about a 70 - 95% protection rate if you used them correctly (as in using spermicide, using them for the "whole show", etc). So I guess statistically speaking, you have something like a 1 in 10 chance of getting BFP if you DTD right on fertile period.
But time will tell huh?

I hear ya Amber. Half the ladies in my mothers group are pregnant, and 2 have just had their second bubs! I look at Caden and just see him as a baby still...I can't imagine another just yet! Good luck ;)
mmmm DD1 was a condom baby. We were having celebratory sex when finding out a lump in my breast was due to ovulation... so I knew I was ovulating and we were happy it wasn't a nasty lump....
weeks later as I was vomiting in the toilet it hit me that I may be pregnant... and sure enough 4 tests and a blood test later, DH & I were finally convinced it was true. Since then we have used the ovulation and condom methods.

DH said "well, do you *feel* you're pregnant? What does your intuition tell you?". I told him this was an entirely dodgey test since last time I was absolutely sure I wasn't pregnant and only took the test because I had one left and I didn't know what else to do with it!!

I'm intrigued by this thread! So if you use a condom the week before and on O, no spermicide, sometimes not for the 'whole show', and me ain't on the pill or have an IUD... you're saying up to 30% chance ineffectiveness?
We also use latex free as I'm alleric, don't know if these are any dodgier or trustier. They are a finer material.

Kiwi - I am no statistician, LOL! but I read somewhere that the odds of falling pregnant in any given cycle, for a normal healthy couple are 1/5 (not very high really). So, if you DTD 3, 2, and the day of ovulation, you should have a higher chance, say 3/5 (60% chance).
Condoms range in effectiveness, but I guess if you consider the best case scenario of 95% effective, then that makes your 60% chance about 3% overall (5% of 60). Therefore, the best scenario is that you have about a 5% chance of falling pregnant if you use condoms on your most fertile time.
Of course, there can be sperm in pre-stuff, so if you don't use them for the whole show that would increase your chance, but I would say only marginally.
Nature is a funny beast who will always find a way to defeat us! They say 50% of pregnancies are unplanned, and 60% of these women were using some form of contraception, so it shows we are animals that are destined to procreate :rolleyes:
Stats stats stats. They are interesting, but there is always someone out there who falls into the tiny percentage, no matter what stats we are talking about.
