I think I've now finished 4 bags, just waiting on fabric to arrive so I can do the last 3. My sew-on snaps I bought off ebay haven't arrived yet either, so the men's pressies are on hold as well. Silly me should have checked in our local fabric store first (it's only small so didn't they would have them as Spotlight in Wagga didn't have any!), had to get some self covering buttons yesterday to finish off DD's pinny and saw the snaps on the rack. :doh:
Have now finished DD's christmas pinny. I'm not really happy with it though and am kicking myself I just didn't follow the instructions instead of trying to take the cheat's route :wall: It is so tight to get on over her head, we had to have a few attempts and I didn't think I'd be able to get it on her!

I think it is really good. Is there any way you can take the straps off and perhaps have them do up with a button or snap? It will help get it on easier.

Liv, I love your bags too! And I LOVE the colours!
I did a mock of one of the dress patterns on some old out of fashion manterial (it's about 20 years old this material!) and I had to make a size 8 for DD who is almost 4!!!! And you know what? The dress fits really well EXCEPT the arm holes are a bit small for my liking :( And it's a little long in length but that's easy fixed. DD is just so tall! I made it with jersey material. And I decided instead of using a zipper I'd use buttons... Now I've just got to work out how to do the cover thing on the arm holes and then it's finished and I can start with my Christmas material. But I think I might try the other pattern first as it is the nicer dress. I have enough of the Christmas material to make two dresses... or one if I make loads of mistakes! :rofl: if all else fails, I'll make a nice little quilt or something for her.
For those who are doing advent calenders - do you have to use a heavy material? Can someone give me some tips? I want to do one for DD and I already have a heap of things to go in the little pockets... just need to make it now! :lol:

I finally got to spotlight and got the fabric for my kids' sacks and have finished them all, except for DS1's name on his as I have to get some plain navy cotton fabric because his fabric is a blue Christmas print. Have uploaded them to FB

I need to get my butt into gear and do my sacks for the kids. I have started my advent calendar but it was a little fiddly so need some time without children interrupting me!
The sacks look great Trillian! Oh I so need to get to spotlight for some Xmas fabric! MG, the dress sounds so lovely, I can't wait to make some dresses for DD.
I'm still laying out my quilt. The number of times I've had all the squares laid out and rearranging them is driving me up the wall..lol..

The dress will be really pretty. If I get it right! The material is white with big baubels on it. Very pretty. But I can't sit at the table to do any sewing at the moment :( I'm starting to worry she won't get the dresses this year :( And I SO wanted her to wear the pretty material for her Santa photo this year!
Hey chickies! Finally have some sewing time and whipped up Izzy's sack adn about to do J's as well - took me under one hour:o! I need your help though - on the red section you can see HERE - I want to put her name - clearly have sewn it all already, so what is the easiest way to do it? Felt and glue? Or fabric applique just ironed on? I could sew around each letter I guess - a bit fiddly with it done but not impossible.
HERE is J's completed as well! These were so easy and fast!! Both done in under 2 hours with faffing about going on in between!!!
ETA: MG be gentle with yourself hun, healing yourself is far more important although I know the feeling when you set yourself a goal you want to achieve. :hug:
very nice Tan! With the drawstring top, it might be pretty fiddly trying to sew their names on (without sewing the rest of the bag together, as I have done a couple of times sewing the pockets onto my bags! Lol). I'd probably fabric glue...or if you have the time/motivation you could hand stitch blanket stitch around the letters?
Oooh good idea SS - might applique the fabric and hand sew it, even though I've not done it before but that will look cute I think!
Tan, I just used the Vlisofix to put the names on the ones I did - so easy to do too and I don't think they will come off in a hurry either. They look really good :)
Oh cool Trill - I have a roll of it here, so I might do that and if it looks like it will come off I might hand stitch as well! :) Did you print your font or hand write it on?
I just did all their names in MS word in a font that would 'cut' well (Impact) and then traced it onto the vlisofix before I ironed it onto the fabric and cut the letters out.
Damm wish my printer was working - off to beat it with a stick to see if that works.
I've done 11 cases for my advent calendar and something is wrong with my bobbin **waahhhhhhhh* can't work out what is wrong with it. :( Off to call mum!
ETA: I FIXED it! All by myself with a wee bit of over the phone tech support!!
HERE is my calendar - numbers and stringing up needed, but I loves them!!! Can't wait to fill with food and things to do leading up to Christmas!

Have finished all of the nick nack holders. I decided to make some rum balls or shortbread or something to wrap in cellophane, then put in them before i wrap them up just to make it a bit more of a present! Lol. so they're on hold until a bit closer to christmas. Started cutting out fabric to make DD's fridge magnets, found some cool farm animals on hot pink fabric, which are large enough to make decent sized magnets. It only has horses, sheep, cows, pigs and chickens, so might make a dog and a few other things to go with them out of different fabric.
And I'm down to two bags now! I really didn't think I'd have the time to get what I wanted done, so I feel good about being somewhat on track!
YAY Tan for fixing it (What was the problem?) and OMG that looks great!!! You did a great job on it, very clever.
SS, the holders look really good. I like the idea of putting rum balls in them too.
Well I'm going to make a pinny for BIL's baby girl to go inside her santa sack. If it turns out OK I might make another one for her too.
Spoke to mum because the whole bobbin holder was spinning around in the casing and making a racket plus it's just been sounding a bit off...took the metal top plate off - cleaned out all the fluff and repositioned it and voila!!!!
HERE are my Santa Sacks! Just about to cut out the names and iron on!

I've just started cutting out my bunting, love the pinking shears! We have friends coming on the weekend and I want to string it up outside. Dan - the sewing achievements might be amazing but my house (in the words of Enchanted) looks like it threw up. :rofl:
My house looks like a bomb has gone off in it and my sewing is still sitting in a pile to be finished. I'm praying I can sit down and do the advent calendar on Wednesday. How long did it take to do Tan? I've read the instructions but they aren't very detailed for beginners like me. Any tips?

I have decided to do a red and white Christmas tree theme this year (bought some lovely red and white wrapping papers) and I bought a large red and white check fabric on the weekend that I plan to make some decorations with it.
Finally started Christmas sewing and got my first Santa sack done. Photo here if anyone is interested! I'm pretty pleased with the result :)

Yep Trillian, I wanted to put the name either in the long red block or initial in the small centre red square but I couldn't find anything at Spotlight to use. I'm going to make another sack and reverse the colours.

Gorgeous Eluned! I was going to alternate the fabric like that too but got all excited and forgot! Are you going to applique the letters on?? Im thinking felt and hand stitching now, will see how I go!

I've also cut out all of my triangles for my bunting with my pinking shears - just need to sew it on ribbon and string it up in our pergola outside!
do you think white and green is christmassy enough? I can't spend anymore $$ on fabric (DH would drop dead if I did) and I have some lovely whites and greens. What do you think?
I think whites and greens would be lovely. If you have several different fabrics you could do all sorts of combinations.
You can definitely use green and white. You can cut out christmas shapes to make it feel a little chrissy if you like.
