I agree Beatrix - if you had only seen the film then why it is called The Hunger Games is not clear at all. It should have been easy to explain a bit more too - when Gale says he is in the reaping 42 times would have only needed a little more dialogue to explain about you go in extra times to get more food and therefore the Hunger Games is harder on the poor than the rich etc.
Really! That is interesting! Why would they leave that out? Hmm.:
I'm still going to attempt to go see it. Still looking forward to it. But probably not til after Easter, so a few weeks away for me.
That's exactly what my sister and I said when we came out from seeing it. I thought they'd explore a few more things & characters just a tiny bit more.:
Yet they make a big deal about Liam Hemsworth losing weight and not being so buff so that he looked 'hungry'. Maybe it was a wasted effort if they didn't bother to explain it properly.

Finally had a chance to to have a lazy arvo/evening and have finished reading it. I am actually looking forward to my bus trip to work tomorrow, so I can start on book 2.
Just need to check which one it is!
Can also watch the movie now - might do that tomorrow night!
Well I LOVED the film and it kicked my butt into reading the books. But now that I have read there were some things that were missing and I guess it is a little disappointing but with not much room (*ahem, time) in my mind for creating the world it is nice to have it brought to life by someone else ;) .
I finished all three books this week and the end if it was very disappointing. I felt like it just ended too quickly. And I was devastated too. Anyway, I can't wait to see the costumes come to life in the next movie.
I loved the first book, read it in a couple of hours last night and can't wait to start book 2.
I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down, DP looked at me weird when he asked if i wanted to go to bed and i said hang on just 20 more pages, turned the Kobo off and said "FINISHED" and he just laughed.
Didn't want to be mean and start the next book straight away and neglect the poor boy though :rofl:
Might start the next book tonight, it's taking all my willpower not to neglect the housework and start it now :p

I have read the first book and am almost half way through the second :D The movie got me into reading it!! I love it!
Just finished the first book. I borrowed it from a friend to read because DD is desperate to read it. I was going to vet it for her and buy it for Christmas if I thought it was okay.
It was much better than I thought. I will definitely read Catching Fire and Mockingjay.
I havent seen the film, but DP and DD watched it last week and loved it. I might watch it tomorrow.
I bought the trilogy for my Kindle last night for just $1.97 through Amazon! Can't wait to get into it
Loved them!!! But 2nd book is a bit repetitive ... But worth it to get to the end :)

I think the thing that is disturbing is the whole concept rather than any particular scene. Given she has seen the film, she knows the concept. She is very mature and can clearly understand it's fantasy.

I agree. There's nothing really 'in' it... It's just something about it that seems ... I don't know....
DSD still reads kids stories and this just seems so much more adult concepts...
If they did read it I am not sure how much they'd really 'get' anyway....? I'd prefer DSD to just stay a kid for as long as I can keep her that way. She can grow up and learn that the world had the potential to be horrible later....
Although I know she's watched movies that are equally ..... Deep...? I guess she hasn't asked about this one, so we haven't had to make that decision!!

I checked Amazon and they say 12 and up.
12 & up seems about right, I guess that's grade six/year seven....

We could all do it, in the right circumstances.
