    Default Kindle v's Ipad?

I've been buying books through iBooks on my ipod, but I've decided I want a bigger screen.

I looked up the Kindle, & books are a little cheaper through Amazon, but you can also get Kindle for the iPad. Not sure if its available through Android for tablets or not?

What do you use? Should I get a specific ereader? Or a cheap tablet with the possible higher book prices? Or try to get hold of a second hand iPad? I want a good battery life, so thinking an ereader is the better idea, but if I'm going to spend that kind of money I may as well get a tablet that I can do other things on?

I've not owned a kindle/ereader, so don't know what you can actually do with them?

Any suggestions? What do you use?

I read books on my iPad because I like the versatility of being able to do other things on it as well.
A lot of people have said that the iPad hurts eyes, when they read on it.
Don't know if that would annoy you.
Also, I've heard great things about the new Kobo.

I would only get a kindle for reading books. Using a tablet like an ipad is straining for your eyes due to the backlit screen. You can't do much with a kindle apart from read books. Unless you get a kindle fire but they are backlit and are really just tablets so they defeat the purpose for me.

I have a kobo and an iPad and haven't yet read a book on the iPad. I like to read in bed and I find the iPad too big/heavy for that.

The kindles are much nicer to read on and you can pick them up pretty cheap - ours was $120 with a free case. But then you can use tablets for so much more. If you already have an iPod, I would go the e reader. There are also a lot of free books around for them, and libraries are getting on board now so some lend the electronic version of books.

I have a kindle and love it. take it everywhere with me. it has a great battery life too. I am lucky if I charge it once a month! better for my eyes too especially since I already wear glasses. you can also get some awesome books for free through amazon for your kindle. most of the books I have I got free. I also too prefer the lightness of the kindle when sitting in bed rather then the ipad. good luck with what ever you choose

I have a kobo and an iPad. Have never used the iPad for reading. The kobo is awesome.

I bought my 10yo DS a mini kobo for his birthday and he loves it.

I've got both a Kindle and an iPad and I'd never read a book on my iPad after having a Kindle, it wins hands down. It's super light, a great size and designed specifically for reading. Love, love, LOVE my Kindle.

I also own a kindle and I was skeptical about buying one but its probably the best choice Ive made! I also ended up with a lot of free books, hardly needs charging and never hurts my eyes. I choose the kindle over kobo as I knew I would probably only shop through amazon.

I read on my iPad usually in the iBooks app. I change the background colour to sepia and it's fine to read on. I like that it syncs between my ipad and phone and I always have my book with me

I have a kindle and I love it. It's so light and comfy to hold, I can't imagine an ipad would be anything like that. The kindle's screen is done with "electronic ink" - so it doesn't shine into the back of your brain at bedtime LOL. I have a beautiful leather and microfibre cover on it, feels beautiful to hold, and a booklight that slots perfectly onto it so I can read in the middle of the night (like you do) without disturbing DH.

I would *love* an ipad, but not for reading books, only for internetty things.

I love my kindle. I have a tablet as well and wouldn't use it for reading as it is too heavy and the screen too bright. Kindle can go ages without needing a charge, tablet is every second day.
