I've just finished Maeve Binchy's Nights of Rain and Stars. Been sitting on my bookshelf unopened for too long. I really enjoyed it. It's about four travelers who are thrown together on one of the Greek Islands due to a boat fire unfolding. Each is running away from home for one reason or another. Really easy read.

Maeve Binchy is my FAVOURITE author. I have read all her books at least twice, some of them more. Love love love! I have moved onto reading Marian Keyes stuff now because it is similar and I needed to move past Maeve Binchy and expand my horizons. I am reading 'The Brightest Star in the Sky' now.

I really like Liane Moriarty too. If you can get your hands on a copy of "What Alice Forgot" I would highly recommend it. Awesome book and best of all, Liane Moriarty is Australian :) She hasn't written many books though - I have only found three "Three Wishes" which I also really enjoyed and "The Last Anniversary" which was okay but nothing spectacular.

I am also reading a couple of nonfiction -

- Mamarazzi by Stacey Wasmuth
- Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn.

Oh, you're in big trouble now ;) They're sooo addictive! I've read pretty much everything she's ever written, I love her novels so much :) They're predictable and trashy but oh so much fun! If you haven't already, get onto 'Chances', it's the beginning of the Santangelo saga - her best stuff, I reckon! Lucky is my hero ;)

Ha - I thought it was fine. It was Lovers & Players (or Players & Lovers?) and I have another one ... not sure what it's called, but it's a yellow cover. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaall about the colour.

i am reading Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a modern midwife and i love love love it

"A piece of cake" by an author called Cupcake Brown. I read it quite a while ago, but had to mention it. I love biographies, especially ones that tell of triumph over drugs etc. That's what this book is about. The lady telling the story, her mother (who was always high) named her "cupcake" as a child, hence the title and her name. I couldn't put it down!
But a warning-this book is pretty graphic, but well worth the read :)

Re-read the Nanny Diaries. I enjoyed it before I had a baby, but reading it now gave it a whole different vibe. Still really enjoyed it, but was seriously judging the mother in it. She's awful! For those who haven't read it, it's written by two nannies and they give the characters names like Mr and Mrs X, Nanny, etc. It was supposed to be a combination of all the different nannying jobs they'd had, all merged into one story. I really feel for the little boy in it.

Has anyone seen the film? Is it worth watching?

Now I'm reading Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult. Not sure I can keep reading it though.

I just finished reading the entire Patricia Cornwell series. Also just read one called Escape which is a true story written by a woman who fled a polygamist community. It was a real page turner!

im reading the carrie bradshaw diaries! its about carrie pre sex and the city! its not too bad, good time waster!

I've just started The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It's ok so far, but not too sure about all the hype ... maybe that will come soon?

It's the one where the woman's son is sexually abused and he goes mute.

i have *just* as in a few minutes ago finished reading "cheaper by the dozen" (frank and enerstine gilbreth). it's a memoir about growing up in an eccentric american family with 12 kids during the 20s. easy read and a quite the eye opener on some people's lives. easy read and apparently was made into a film at one point.

Peanutter - Escape is written by Carolyn Jessop if you're interested :D

PacRakMG - thanks. yes, I'm not in the right place to read that right now! I love Picoult, but I have to be selective about when I read her different books.

I have to admit though, DH and I (both of whom are voracious readers) have an entire bookshelf - not a shelf, but a bookshelf - which is our "to be read" pile ... :redface:

I've just finished Penny Vincenzi's The Best Of Times. She always writes with a stack of characters, so in the beginning it's hard to keep track of. Good book though, surrounds a group of people who have nothing to do with each other and they're all involved in the same massive car accident on a UK motorway. It's then their stories of what happened post and past accident.

I was just looking at this thread last night Pac, while my book club decided on a new book.

We just read "That Deadman Dance" by some dude and TBH none of us liked it greatly. Only two of us even bothered to finish it! Hard work.

So now we are going to read "Fall Girl" by Toni someone ( :lol: bit vague on details I am) as it sounds like the complete antithesis of what we have just read. So we'll see!

How do you choose the books for the bookclub, OP? I've never been in one so just curious.

Group consensus. Sometimes one of us has heard of a great book or has a recommendation... as happened when the lovely Heather72 recommended "The Help" to me (excellent choice - great book - better than the movie - thank Heather for the recommendation :D ) but most of the time someone (usually me and my iPhone) trawls the web, looks at The First Tuesday Book Club's (that ABC show) website, Oprah's book club website, The Circle book club... reads some descriptions and we all go "That sounds good, let's do that one!"

I can let you know where the next one is going to be if you'd like to come along :D Last night we were in HB at my sister's house... we usually end up in HB, down the road in St A's, sometimes the place that got hit really badly by the fires starting with S near AC (following?) or we go to my house, you know where that is right? Let me know if you're interested :D

Its all mums with young bubs and we generally natter about the book for anything from 15 mins (last night!) to an hour or so, then talk about our kids :rofl:

I have just finished 'all quiet on the western front'. it is, of course, a bit of a classic, but i had never read it, so when i saw it at the library thought 'why not'. turns out that it is quite probably the most beautiful and poetic piece of literature that i have read in a VERY long time. just sublime.
