My mother has worked as an English teacher, a Librarian, a Journalist and an Editor.

DH and I, together with my mother, sister, MIL and BIL are all published writers in various formats.

DH and I have eleven (yes, eleven) bookshelves full of books.

There is no way on God's great earth that I'm going to be able to reconcile with an e-reader anytime soon.

I understand why people love them (particularly on days when I have two or three books in my bag) but I'm not emotionally ready for such a catastrophic change ...

Lol N2L, I was wondering if there'd be a Gatsby fan in here! It's not that I thought it was a bad book (aside from could of), I just didn't get why it was so fantastic. I didn't particularly love any of the characters. I dunno, maybe it was just too different from what I was reading before.

Just read The Art of Racing in the Rain for book club. Loved it, something really different. I even cried at the end and I never cry at books. Probably the preggo hormones!!

Just finished up Genesis by Bernard Beckett which I enjoyed.
Now reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas

Started on the deverry series by Katherine Kerr. I'm up to book 3 already and loving it. Fantasy series medieval war style with magic as they usually are but with the twist of being set over several centuries, with the same souls being reincarnated into new characters. It was recommended in the first thread, but I'll recommend it again, lol!

The Big Smoke by Cally Jackson. A kind of coming of age novel. Not what I normally read but I'm loving it. It's really fast paced and a real page turner. It's set in Brisbane so I know a lot of the places.

I feel your pain. My whole career has been in the book trade. My last job would shut up shop for three weeks over Christmas and when we went back in, you could smell the books. Aaaahhhh. I swore black and blue that I would never buy an e-reader.

But I now own a Kobo and have downloaded my first book. And it's freaking awesome.

Convenient. No more trawling through bookshops with limited stock trying to find what I wanted or trying to remember.

Storage. My whole life is pretty much in boxes for the next three years. I've moved a whole house into two bedrooms and a bathroom and do not have any room for books right now.

Holidays. I can take the Kobo in the caravan, much easier than trying to figure out how many books I'll churn through on a trip.

I'll still buy books to have and hold. But only to be adding to my precious ones. Instead of buying a book that ends up being rubbish but absolutely cannot throw it away and stick it on an overcrowded shelf for eternity.

I finally read The Hunger Games. Amazing. Reading The Help right now and loving it.

Has anyone read The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons? I recall that it's part of a trilogy and am wondering if this is the first book. Thinking of reading this next.

I love that trilogy. Yes, TBH is first. Then The Bridge to Holy Cross is next, and it's the next part of the story, but also has some flashbacks from a different perspective. Then The Summer Garden is the next part of the story. There's also Tatiana's Table, which has some vignettes about the characters, and a bunch of recipes. :)


I am reading Bloodlines at the moment - young adult fiction about an alchemist. Tangent series to Vampire Academy (Richelle Mead).

I was hesitant to buy an ereader too. I have a kindle & I love it! Especially after reading the game of thrones series as actual books. So hard to read while nursing DD just because they were so heavy.

Forgot to mention that Cally Jackson is a local Brisbane author & The Big Smoke is her first novel. I have met her a few times and she is a really lovely woman too and about to become a mum soon. Hmm. I wonder if she's on here?? If you want to support her, you can get her book as an e book from amazon for only $3.

Love all Paulinna Simmons stuff, am in a fluff mood right now and finished the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and now reading Madelieine Wickham books which are the same author! Lived the Shopaholic books, the Wickham ones are a bit deeper, and not quite as funny!

I didn't like the shopaholic one - I only read one (the onewhen she has a baby) ... I liked her "undomesticated goddess" book, though. Very funny :D

But hey, with other Paullina Simons books, have you read "A Song In The Daylight"? I didn't like her "Road to Paradise" much, so haven't got around to ASITD, but now her new one is out, and I'm one behind ... Have you read it? What did you think?

Hi Ladies. Can actually join this thread now, I have my reading mojo back. Lost it when pregnant with DD1, I struggled back then just to read a magazine article (to be honest I still struggle with magazine, love them, but just skim them).

Up to Book 9 of the Southern Vampire Mysteries aka Sookie Stackhouse aka True Blood - really enjoying them. I did struggle with the first, as the TV series was pretty much the same, so there was not much suspense there, but since they started to deviate it has been really enjoyable. Knocking through a novel at a rate of 2 a week at the moment and make sure I have the next few on reserve at the library.

I am going to be at a loss when the series is finished, well at least until book 13 comes out.

No e reader here either. Bit put off by not really owning the book (didn't Amazon just delete someone's collection??), plus finances as I am just using the library these days. Happy enough to borrow for the moment.

I read the Marian Keyes Mystery at Mercy Close. I have to say it was not one of her best. I struggled a bit through parts of it. I believe Marian Keyes had a nervous breakdown during the writing of this novel. You can sense that I think when reading. My SIL explained that Marian Keyes has struggled for years with depression. Very sad.

I am now reading Monica McInerney The House of Memories. Monica McInerney is such a great writer. This is a sad book, still an excellent read.

I have also finished Reflected in You, this is the second novel by Sylvia Day in her trilolgy. It's called the Crossfire Trilogy. A 50 shades type of book, much better written IMO. Not sure when the third book comes out.

I download all mine to my computer so I can back them up. I haven't heard of anyone's being deleted but I do try to steer clear of the news as much as possible.

Oh no! I really was looking forward to Mystery at Mercy Close, and really had my fingers crossed and I didn't much like The Brightest Star In The Sky, and that was the first of hers I had not completely loved ... But yes, she struggled with depression and alcoholism and other substances, from what I gather. I hope she recovers soon (because I think she's fabulous, not just because I want her to pump out her next book ...).

I really quite liked the Richelle Mead I just finished (Bloodlines - about an Alchemist) and I am thinking I'll just read the next one before getting onto MAMC, so that I've got all the characters still in my head.

I havent read a book in years, but Im forcing myself to take some me time and grabbed The Birth House by Ami McKay and I am LOVING it! Its about a teenage girl living in a remote village and being taught to deliver babies by the towns midwife. No intervention, letting the mother do exactly what she feels with minimal guidance. Love love love. Did I say I love it?

I'm still reading first 50 shades lol
