    Default Healthy Smoothies

So, DD is a pretty good eater and loves her veggies etc but has her moments and breakfast can be a pain in general. Anyway I started making really nutritious, full smoothies for the both of us for the occasional breakkie or lunch and she's really taken to them, especially the green smoothies. So I was curious to see what others put in their smoothies for some more inspiration. Two favourites here currently are:

    Greenie:
    Wilted spinach
    Coconut water
    Natural yoghurt
    Green apple
    Banana
    Chia seeds
    Teeny bit of lime
    Teenier bit of vanilla essence

    Purply:
    Wilted spinach
    Blueberries
    Blackberries
    Coconut water
    Yoghurt
    Oats
    Flax seeds/chia seeds
    Dash of coconut oil
    Dash of honey

My two favourites at the moment are one with banana, honey, milk and ice in the blender, and a green smoothie with spinach, lemon (just a slice, rind and all), green grapes, celery, green apple, ginger and carrot.

Green grapes and celery - noted! I'm mad about frozen green grapes at the moment.

    We do:
    Banana
    Frozen mango
    Oats
    Chia seeds
About a heaped tablespoon of whatever yoghurt is on the go
    Coconut water
    A2 milk
A little bit of honey depending on the yoghurt used.

Mrs. OM we have major breakfast issues at the moment as in all she wants is milk. If we give her cereal she drinks all the milk out and refuses the grains. She refuses toast etc. But she loves the smoothies (pink milk, green milk etc) so I'm running with it! Plus I have it too and I feel so wholesome and cleansed and virtuous somehow. If I have a bad day parent wise I can at least say (to my inner critic) I make my daughter green whole food smoothies.

My fave smoothies always have a frozen banana, milk, yoghurt and flaxseed base, then I add whatever other frozen fruit I have...berries, frozen tinned peaches, frozen mango.

Being dairy free now, I'm learning to enjoy them with a mixture of almond milk, coconut milk (leftover from another recipe usually) and apple juice in place of the milk and yoghurt. Occasionally oat milk.

I don't usually add sweetener, but a little maple syrup, honey or vanilla extract is sometimes 'needed'.

I've never tried green smoothies...are you sure they don't taste too healthy and 'green'?! What's a good 'starter recipe' to ease into the whole green smoothie thing?

LL - DS is pretty poor when it comes to eating fruit and veg and doesn't do sauces or anything sloppy. He'll sometimes do a sip or two of smoothie, but I can rarely get him to drink it a second time. So, I get you on the whole food struggle thing.

OP we get ours from Aldi. It's about 50 cents cheaper than Coles. If they don't have it then I get it from Coles, but our local Aldi seem to have it regularly.
