I plate it up, cover then put in the fridge.
Dinner for whoever's not home is always put in the microwave at my parents' place :dunno: and if there's more than one we're waiting on, it goes under a teatowel...

It depends. Sometimes i cook when he is due home and if he happens to be 10 mins late i will plate it up and put it in the microwave but if hes more than an hour he will say himself not to worry about him but i always put left overs in the fridge.
But he used to work nights and wouldn't be home til real late so i wouldnt cook for him at all.
Covered with foil on the bench for up to an hour. Then it goes in the fridge. Unless I know he's going to be more than an hour, then it goes straight in the fridge.
I usually get a rough idea of time he will be home, then depending on how long it will be - if it's 10-15 mins on the bench plated up if it's longer than that it goes into the fridge.
If he's going to eat it that night (within a few hours) then i wouldn't bother putting it in the fridge unless it was a warm day, or the food wasn't very fresh to begin with (in which case it wouldn't of been served anyway :P) or it was something like sashimi or other high risk food. It usually takes at least an hour for food to reach room temp so it can go in the fridge safely and from what i've learned in food safety class you have 4 hours before it becomes 'unsafe' anyway, so yeah.
And if he asked for it specifically not to be put in the fridge and in the microwave instead i'd happily do it even if it wasn't what i wanted to do, afterall if he gets food poisoning it will be a lesson well learned, hehehe!
after its cool into the fridge. No food poisoning here thanks!
