Re: 6 year old turning into an attitude queen

Welcome black cat! :)
I think at some point you have to just make them be independent! E.g They MUST sleep in their own room - he has to know that there is no other choice! If he comes out, take him straight back.
I told my DD she had to learn to make her own breakfast but she didn't want to- insert argument- every.single.morning.. Until I just said if you want to eat breakfast then you make it or else go hungry - I'm not arguing with you over YOUR breakfast!! Haha.
It's so hard not to just tear your hair out in frustration!
I've had this argument for 5 and a half years, we will be doing it until 6 am, I know because we've done it before, and not just one night but we tried consistently. It sounds simple in theory, but ds and what I presume is separation anxiety won't have a bar of it, and when your the only one around and still have to work and function everyday. *shrug* yep I created a little monster. *sigh*
Re: 6 year old turning into an attitude queen
Hmm sticky situation! Have you tried putting him in a separate bed but in the same room? Does he have to tv in his room? I know this sounds bad but we managed to get our DD to her own bed by getting her to watch a movie in her bed of a night, and then she would always just doze off and when she woke
up and tried to get in bed with us it was much easier to take her back (half asleep) to her own bed and lay with her for a little while until she dozed off again and then head back to bed ourselves.. We found it was a lot easier to wean her off bedtime movies then it was to just get her into a bed cold turkey... We now use bedtime movies as a reward or a treat.. Thankfully she adapted quite well so we didn't have too many dramas.. You could also think about audio books.. You can get some really cool ones and the kids love just laying in bed listening or watching..
I guess you have to just try everything. A very good friend of mine had the same issue with her son.. He just would not under any circumstance sleep in his own bed and then something must have happened at school and his friends found out he still sleeps with mummy and from then on he wanted to sleep in his own bed! Haha children are strange little creatures! Haha
Re: 6 year old turning into an attitude queen
My DD is 6 and she is the same too - sulky, stroppy when she doesn't get her way, talking back, etc...
I have started telling her that no matter the situation it is never okay to be rude or stroppy to anyone and I refuse to talk to her until she starts acting and talking respectfully. This way I leave the room (and let her know why) before I get too angry. It seems to be daily occurence though...
Re: 6 year old turning into an attitude queen
Today I have my sweet happy dd back hoping it lasts for a while!
Re: 6 year old turning into an attitude queen
I should add my 4 yr old DD behaves like this too. I hope both my 4 yr old and my 6 yr old are over it soon. My patients are REALLY being tested at the moment.
Re: 6 year old turning into an attitude queen
Haha it's very trying!
I wish they would just chuck normal tantrums - I can deal with those! It's the snarky looks and the defiant attitude that really gets my blood boiling!

Same here! The extra rude and ungrateness too and just general brat attitude!!! And rolling eyes!!!!!!
Re: 6 year old turning into an attitude queen
Hahaha yes!! The eye rolling!! My DD does this thing where she half closes her eyes tilts her head back and looks down her nose at me! It's just the most "whatever" look!!
