You can get tinted sunscreen... I think sunsense make one.
I didn't wear any makeup til I left school. Easily 19 or so.
Would a 12year old even need it? Or know why one would need it? Does she know foundation can cause more harm than good sometimes and create horrible skin for you? Not to mention who can be bothered with the extra 20 minutes it takes to put on your face each morning... At 12?! Why do kids wanna grow up sp fast, darn it!

I was about 14/15 I think but then I went full on out goth makeup so not your everyday look :lol:

I still don't wear foundation unless it's a special occasion.

I think the tinted moisturiser with spf15 is the best way to go with some clear lip gloss. The rest can wait.

I never wore make up at highschool. Couldn't understand why anyone would want to get out of bed earlier just to make themselves look overdressed. :p Still couldn't be bothered wearing make up everyday, it is a special occasion thing as far as I am concerned.

In year 8 my highschool had a 'boys & girls' day. The boys went to the local swimming/leisure centre and learnt about 'boys' things and the girls stayed at school and learnt about 'girls' things. The 'girls' things included a lady coming in and teaching us how to apply makeup! :rofl:

You may laugh, but I have suggested make up classes at school for ages. It seems that they all want to wear make up these days, but have absolutely no idea how to wear it. It isn't so much the make up that bothers me, it is that they look like they should be on a street corner. Too much foundation in the wrong shade with no attempt at blending at the jaw line. Super thick (often liquid) black eyeliner and so much mascara that their eyelashes look like caterpillars. Not to mention a complete lack of any blush, so they all have weird monotone faces with big black eyes. They really do need some help!!! :lol:

My 14 year old daughter wears mascara and a light gloss. No foundation - she doesn't need it.

i dont think mum ever had a age were i was allowed to use it, but then i was never a 'girly girl' so didnt realy get into the whole make-up thing! the most i ever used was eyeliner and lipgloss arround 16-17.
she did however have a age were i could use permanate hair dye, that was 13, untill then i was only alowed to use rinses, pointless realy as my hair is to dark for them to show up!

I was allowed mascara from the age of 12 but the rest of the make up stuff followed not so long afterwards as I got into competitive ballroom dancing ........ talk about caking it on LOL.

I was so uncomfortable without make up I wore a full face ALL the time.

In saying that though my mother taught me how to apply it without making it look OTT. Through the days I wore a tinted moisturiser as foundation, a light blush, light eye shadow tinted lip gloss a wee bit of eye liner and mascara.

I will teach DD how to wear make up from a youngish age (12-14) and buy her some nice products. I guess the thing is she will grow up differently to me. My mother is looks obsessed. I only wear make up if I am going out somewhere spesh and DD is so beautiful (in my opinion) I doubt she will need very much at all.

Yep I think tinted moisturiser is definately the way to go instead of full on foundation. And if you're going to buy her some make up dont go the complete cheapy stuff for her skins sake.
Pretty sure I had make up around 14/15 but it was tinted moisturiser & other bits & pieces of mums make up she didnt use any more. But Yes please do teach your DD how to apply it properly to avoid the caked on street corner look as others have said lol.

I like the tinted moisturiser idea with a bit of lip gloss. My DD is obssessed with make up at the tender age of 9 and has been since she was about 5 I think. Strange because personally I hardly ever wear it, only for going out somewhere special.

I do note however, that DD seems to intensely dislike her freckles, as much as I think they're gorgeous and tell her that I was exactly the same at her age - a nice little smattering across the nose. We've said no makeup until she's at least 14 however as I don't think it's necessary regardless of what all her friends are up to :)

I was 16. But it was too much hassle. Never stuck it out!
DD has friends who do. She knows its pointless asking me! lol

I didn't wear make-up until I left school and then it was only a smal amount on my eyes for work or clubbing.
Even now I hardly ever wear it...only when I go out which is not often :lol:
My DD1 is 16 and wears makeup but only a really small amount...mascara and lip gloss and has for about a year.
I don't mind because she doesn't go over board IYKWIM

14/15 for occasions, but as an everyday event - NEVER. Still don't wear it! lol

Tinks - I'd go the tinted moisturiser for her. I'd be more getting her into a good cleaning regime before you even go down the make-up path. Teaching her that she needs to keep her skin clean, not only for pimples but when she starts wearing make-up. She might just change her mind about wearing make-up when she realises that she needs all these different products to take the damn stuff off properly or else her face can break out.

My mother used to get my eyelashes tinted instead of letting me wear mascara, I played too much sport and was sick of getting it in my eyes!

I was 13 when I started waxing my legs, dying my hair, wearing make-up, but I was way more developed than your DD is, I looked 16+ without make-up at age 13, over 18 when I did put some on. Somewhere along the line that got turned upside down and I now look younger than what I am :)

I was wearing make-up at primary school. It was the cool thing to do. Having said that, I don't bother so much these days. And should I have a daughter, I'll be organising GOOD make-up and brushes. Not to mention lessons and make-overs to see how it works rather than applying bad colours with a shovel. I don't know about applying an age to it - leave it as long as possible, but not to cause social stigma, I reckon.
