How much sleep at 5-6 years?

5 and 9 months and 4 and 4 mths. Over summer was around 8:30 up at 7 ish, now that school/kinder are back they are in bed at 7:30 asleep by 8 and up anywhere from 6:30-8, 7 is average though.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It seems 9 1/2-10 hours must be enough for her because she has continued to go to bed and wake at those times. I guess she's just like her daddy and doesn't need so much sleep.

I have started giving her a shower/bath first thing when she gets home from school to give her a little bit of time out and a rest before getting involved with everyone else in the house, other wise all I do is reprimand her for speaking rudely to me (and everyone), teasing her brothers and just having a terrible attitude in general! I have also trialled dinner at 4.30 rather than 5/5.30 for the kids too, because they are so hungry at that time, but if they have a decent snack then, they don't eat dinner! Aaaggh the dilemmas! (LOL, I am very happy to say that this one of my biggest dilemmas of the day, and it's nothing more than that. How lucky am I? No...seriously!!)

Tonight and tomorrow I am trying a little bit later bed time (7.30 instead of 6.30/7) to see if it helps her sleep a little later in the morning. I would love it if they all woke at 6am rather than 4.30/5!!

Good idea re the shower! I couldn't believe the other day I had to ask my 6yo daughter to please refrain from rolling her eyes at me, lol. She is knackered & school definitely gets the best of her. I know how you feel re the afternoon attitude.
I am all for early dinner times too. Good luck. Bear in mind, the late bedtime may not result in later waking times the morning after - after a late one mine tend to sleep in 2 days later :)

Perhaps make her bedtime a little later so that she sleeps later in the morning? So maybe a 7.30 bedtime and asleep by 8 then she might sleep through till 7ish the next morning. Worth a try?
