I know exactly how you feel!!! my eldest dd name is Ami and we are always getting incorrect spelling even her year 11 report:wall: one she may use for job interviews etc was spelt wrong so i took it back and they made a new report with correct spelling. DD is always correcting her teachers most listen some ignor her thats when i get involved.

My DH who is a teacher and gets every version of spelling of names always does a check of how they are spelt at the start of each year. We joke about it as sometimes he has 3 kids in his class with the same name but all spelt different. The surname is the same as everyone tries to put a "c" in ours and spell it one word. How is it spelt on his report/roll cause if its wrong there it is probably wrong on the main data base and the secretary should fix it.
How did your meeting go re the spelling of Nikolaus' name?
God I can just imagine how much it must **** you off Maz.
We had a guy at the preschool Evan went too (he had a heart of gold) who was only young (about 18/19 I think)& had soem learning difficulties of his own. But everything that he wrote Evans name on came home with Even on it. I pointed it out a few times but the poor guy just couldn't get it.
We also now have Glenn coming home with stuff with Glen. The thing with Evan/Even I could let slide as the guy was really nice & simply has some troubles of his own.
But with Glenn its more annoying as its simple lack of checking, looking making sure you are correct.
Even Glenn preschool photos came back with Glen & not Glenn on the list of kids names for the group shot.
Im sure Isla will get Ila & this next one with we go with Iain will get Ian all the time also.
I can understand that it must be hard for teachers to get all those different names right. I mean with names from all corners of the world and then different spellings of common names. I bet it does get confusing at times. So one or two incidences could be forgiven. But what this teacher is doing is just plain strange. I would definitely do something about it. It can't be coincidental. She can't possibly be that daft... or can she...
My DD's name is Maya. Most Australians pronounce it like the month of May with an a at the end. However, we pronounce it like My-a. By the way, there are some famous Maya's out there (like the American poet Maya Angelou) who pronounce their name like we do. Anyway, I usually tell people once when they get it wrong. Some correct me and tell me that I'm pronouncing my own child's name wrong (I guess cause I'm not Aussie, they think I don't know better)... I try and ignore those people. Most people just accept it and pronounce her name the way we do. The only people that can't seem to get it are DH's grandparents. But they are in their mid eighties. So I just make an exception for them.

I can understand how frustrating mis-spelling of names can be!!! DS1 is Zakari (pronounced the conventional way) but we often get it spelled with a c, or a ck, or a ch, or a y at the end (sometimes even an ey!!) I have even had people pronounce it Za-KA-ri (ahem, we don't even look remotely indian!!LOL!)
Now we are having problems with Kaliah - we are getting Karlia, kahlia and other variations! WE are just waiting for future probs with Khaemon and Veygas!!! (we have already had mis-spelling of Khaemon - IL's got him a plaque thing that said "Cameron" :wtf: with their usual excuse "we didn't know" - well ASK FFS!!) And preschool have already spelled it with an A instead of an O ...
And Veygas's name has been pronounced VEE-gas ... hello. Las Vegas people!!!
Anyway hun, hope you get it all sorted cause it is a HUGE PITA when people don't listen (especially to kids!!)
And I am sitting here shaking my head at people who have been corrected by ignoramuses who think they know better, on how to spell or pronounce theirs or their kids names!! :rolleyes:

MountainMummy, I cannot believe the grandparents got their own grandson's name so completely wrong. If it wasn't so frustrating, it would be hilarious.
Jed and I were talking about this again tonight and names came up IF we had any future children (which i doubt as Ive had my tubes removed)
He said I like MIcheal but we'll have to spell it the way you like

I hope nobody minds me saying this, but with unusual spellings (or unusual names in general), the odd mistake is pretty much guaranteed. BUT, it is inexcusable for those mistakes to be made repeatedly by people who have regular contact with the child (like grandparents) and especially by teachers/childcare workers.
To the topic of pronunciation, I have always found it interesting, that my full name, "Alexandra" is always pronounced the English way when I'm in an English speaking country. I do not take offence to it, by now, I pronounce it that way myself. But, in Germany, where I am from, we would never change the pronunciation of somebody's name to match it to the way we would pronounce it, IYKWIM. We would pronounce the name the same way as it is told to us when we're introduced.
(Just to clarify, in German, the letter A is pronounced like in the word car. And the r is harsher.)
Oh, and by the way, the way you spell Nikolaus is everything but unusual. It is a very common way to spell that name in German, Dutch and other related languages.

(which by the way is meant to be spelt with a "diddo in the shape of a tiny v" above the second s and is meant to be pronounced like Sasha. It is a common nickname for the names Alexander and Alexandra in many Slavic languages. My mum is Slovenian, that's how I got that nickname)

Wilhelm is my papa's middle name
Mateauz (Mah - tea az) is Matthew which is Jed's opa's name

for the recod, I love the spelling of all of your kids names, especially Matauez (we have a friend who we call mat - ay - ush as DH is polish and so its kind of an affectionate way to call him... iykwim..)
I actually much prefer that pronounciation for matthew :)
Maz, well, I clicked to Wilhelm being German. But to be honest, I didn't click to Mateauz. Very interesting spelling, though and come to think of it, it does work in the English language. I thought it was more like the German name "Matth?us" which is a variant of Matthias.
DH and I have a business which has the German word "Achtung" in its name. Some people have no problem with the name. Probably because they've seen it on instruction manuals or they know the U2 album Achtung Baby. Others have a huge problem pronouncing or spelling it. But I don't mind. It actually makes us stand out and they do recognise us quickly. It can be a really good thing cause it sticks in people's minds.

I had to change the spelling of it....just me :)...my dad wanted me to call Vyolett Freda after his mum..um I know I love our traditional names but freda is really cutting it a bit to fine for me :lol: plus my Neice was having a baby boy at the same time and was going to call him Matthew until my mum slipped and told her our name...my great nephew is now Adam :rolleyes:

And I can so see what you mean abut Freda... lucky you that your niece changed her son's name... Although I actually think not a whole lot of Aussies would make the connection from Matthew to Mateauz (oh, I hope I spelled it correctly).
