Hi,
Does anyone have more ideas for things I can make as gifts for the family? Already working on Coconut Ice, Fudge, and Crunchies (similar to Anzac biscuits). Oh yes, and shortbread biscuits.
Thanks

Gingerbread biscuits (or houses if you're creative), truffles, toffee, lemon butter, jam or chutney...
Hi Kim... I make this really easy little mini Christmas puddings......
You will need the following
A light or dark fruit cake (i use homebrand from Woolies)
Some rum or brandy
Nestle white choc melts
Red and green glaice cherries
Take the fruit cake and place in a big mixing bowl and break apart into fine crumbs.. ( i sometimes wear disposable latex gloves) then splash in enough alcohol so that you can make the cake mixture into small round balls... about 2.5 cms round. Set aside into the fridge.
Cut the green cherries into thin green strips and the red ones into little round/square pieces as these will resemble holly on top of your puddings. Set aside.
Melt the white chocolate in a double saucepan. When melted drizzle the white chocolate over your fruit balls to resemble custard and then top with the sliced cherries to resemble the holly.. ie, two red pieces and two green strips.
Place into the fridge to set.. These are so easy and simple and are just so sweet to give away as gifts.
Enjoy!

what about spicy mixed nuts, turkish delight, nougat, peanut brittle?
Have a look Here at some recipes and suggestions posted earlier!
thanks friends,
the mini pudings sound delish. i have also got some savoury biccies and biltong (dried meat and sausages) lined up. Yay!
Yum Kimi at the Biltong, I use to work in a deli that use to sell it, it was delish, I haven't been able to find it or get any in a few years, mmm I miss the taste lol.
hugs xoxo
Hello, this one's kind of foodie, if you have a cook in the family - pot up a few different culinary herbs into a nice decorative or terracotta pot, they can keep it on the windowsill/back porch and snip some herbs whenever they are cooking!
:-)
hi there
was looking for a yummy and easy recepie for white christmas, i want it for ds so he can make it.
ds is allergic to nuts, so preferably a recepie without nuts or coconut.
thanks:)
I found this recipe in last weeks Womans Day and was contemplating giving it a go. It contains no nuts but does have coconut - could you leave out? You could also try googling it.
White Christmas - makes around 36. Prep 10 mins plus chilling time, Cooking 5 mins.
250g copha
2 cups rice bubbles
1 cup des coconut
1 cup icing sugar - sifted
1 cup milk powder
3/4 cup sultanas
1/4 cup chopped red glace cherries
1/4 cup chopped green glace cherries
Lightly grease a 20 x 30 cm slice pan and line base and sides with baking paper.
Place copha in a small pan on low heat. Cook, stirring, for 4-5 mins until melted. Cool slightly.
Meanwhile combine remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Add copha and mix well. Press mixture firmly into pan.
Freeze 15 mins until set then chill until ready to serve. Serve cut into small sqaures. Store white christmas in an airtight container in fridge.
The recipe above sounds very similar to what my mum used to make. We didnt have nuts in it as i hated them as a Kid. Fond memories of stuffing my face with it and being ill! Im sure you will do a great job making it

I wish i had time to make all these yummy things!
Yes I look forward to eating these during xmas time... I see them in coles and woolies, but would love to make them all year round. Thanks for recipe.
Caz
I do some round gingerbreads and built a tower on top of rum balls and wrap them in cellophane with ribbon. And I do chocolate truffles for the young ones and chocolate dip the gingerbreads.
I like the Rocky Road idea from kellieem though. You could put the red and green cherries through it to make it chrismassy!!
*bump*
So who's doing this for Christmas this year? I'm hoping I can get some done earlier this time to save the rush in the last few days!
thanks for bumping this up, getting some great ideas for my mums group friends
also if your not a dab hand at a lot of things you can buy a ginger bread man kit at the supermarket just add syrup and water comes with its own cutter and all and man they are yummy..............only thin roll mixture thinner than it says as they are quite thick when cooked
LOL Rach there are fairy star biscuits as well in that same range & I'm thinking of cheating & making some of them ;)
Hi guys...
Last night I made that totally yummy & oh so easy to eat choc fudge...
The one with choc bits, condensed milk, butter & vanilla esscense....
Only thing is it hasnt really set hard.... it is more soft & chewy IYKWIM... is it supposed to be like that or did i not do it right...
still tastes devine though!!!!
i think we are going to do this this year
does any one have a recipe for nuts and bolts?
Mitch, when I made the fudge last year it was soft & chewy... I think that's a good fudge consistency ;)
Rach, if your cookies are a too soft you can knead in a little extra flour. But putting the dough in the fridge for a half-hour or so prior to rolling should make it fairly maleable...
Sherie, what is your recipe for nougat?!?
thanks Amy but I did have dough int here for a hr or so and it was just so soft I still have the dough inf ridge so may give it another go this arvie it seems a lot harder now obviously
Its hard with the weather being so warm atm too - I always found with my brownies they'd be a different consistency in summer and winter! I'd prob roll it in a little flour if you think its still too soft?
Ooh, I want to make some now, but I'm too lazy LOL!
well I have just cooked 1/2 the mix it did roll better mind you its been in the fridge since monday nite  towards the end the little scrap bits were getting very soft
maybe I mixed it worng I :dunno: waiting for them too cool so I can have one
These are new ones I'm going to try this year...
Fudgy Buttons
Makes about 1-1/2 dozen
2 Tbsp butter
1-1/2 tsp baking cocoa
1/2 C powdered sugar
1/2 tsp milk
2 Tbsp creamy peanut butter
In a small saucepan melt the butter. Remove from heat and add cocoa and mix well.
Stir in sugar, then add milk and stir till smooth. Add peanut butter and mix well.
Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper. Flatten tops and shape into 1" patties.
Broken Glass Candy
1 1/3 C. sugar
2 C. light corn syrup
1/4 t. red food coloring
10 drops oil of cinnamon
Combine sugar, syrup and food coloring in heavy pan and cook on low heat until dissolves. Bring to hard crack stage (300° F.).
Remove from heat and add flavoring.
Pour into well greased sheet cake pan. Let cool. Break with spoon.
Oooh, they look good, Sarah. I'm hopeless at making toffee, but the fudgy buttons look tasty!
I just found a recipe/idea for Chocolate Spoons...
You melt the chocolate of your choice (milk, white or dark) and pour a little to fill the bowl of the spoon, then once that is cool, you dip the spoon in again to about 2cm up the handle. Once they are cool, freeze them to make them easier to handle, and decorate with sprinkles, or drizzle with another colour choc... then you can place cellophane square over the choc, tie with ribbon, and wella... YUMMO.... great to make hot choc/mocha with or for the kids to eat!
Just copied Mel's choc spoon idea in here cos I think it's very cool & am going to use it for sure :)
mmmm, yummy. Would you use s/steel spoons or plastic?
I was thinking stainless steel.
Does anyone have some yummy recipes for savoury treats that will keep for a bit?
Yeah, go the s/steel - you can get some nice ones for not too much $$.
Sorry, Kellie, I don't know about the savoury ones, though someone mentioned nuts and bolts a while back... are they savoury? We were given a nut mix (with those rice snacks as well) that DH's cousin made up for us and other relos - they had some sort of curry flavouring... They were quite tasty, but I've no idea of how to make them, sorry! Hopefully someone else can help.
Oh, and my Dad is making infused olive oils for relos this year - he's already started. You get nice oil jars (his have those little spouts at the top) and put either garlic or chili in there with olive oil. Let it sit for a few weeks before giving them away.
I have a recipe for chilli jam if you want it?
ooh, DH would love chilli jam Sarah!
Has everyone making baskets seen SFI magazine? There are stacks of recipes for this sort of stuff in it - short bread, about 10 different truffles, biscuits etc. I'm picking up a copy tomorrow cos there are some really yummy ideas in it :D
Where do you get SFI, Sarah? My folks used to buy it for me occasionally but I've never got one myself
You usually can get it at the supermarket.
