lemon and sugar YUM its one of those foods that reminds me of being a kid :D
Mmmm lemon and sugar for me, icecream and (real) maple syrup for DP and the kids.
We do SR flour, milk, egg and sugar for our batter too - we use a tupperware shakermaker to mix it and then cook them on the foccoccia press so minimal mess and washing up :D
LOL, I didn't know it was shrove Tuesday either, but I just made some banana pancakes for morningt tea! Yummmeeee!!!!!!!!!
Hello ladies,
I'm hoping one of you here can help me with my pancake disaster. I haven't really made pancakes before, but tried today. I used 1 cup plain flour, 1 cup SR flour, pinch salt, 2 eggs, 2 cups milk & 60g melted butter.
I've cooked nearly all of them, and every one turns out the same...ever so slightly crispy on the outside - they kind of feel like softish cardboard . I guess they taste like a pancake, tho not as nice as one should.
I used half SR half plain flour because I read somewhere this gives less fluffy pancakes (I don't like them too fluffy). The recipe I used said once I see bubbles come through the pancake, its ready to be flipped over. But I didn't get any bubbles...even the top went crispy before I flipped it over.
What am I doing wrong??
I'm not sure hun i just use SR flour, egg & milk, no butter.
I use a tiny bit of butter in the pan but thats it, have it on a medium/lo heat when bubbles start coming through FLIP...
No idea why you didn't get bubbles ???
im a pancake fail too.
the only time i can make decent pancakes is in my mums old cast iron type fry pan.
screw teflon  i need to get me one of those.
and they are always delicious when i make them at her house.
i use plain flour because i like thin, crepe-type, rollable pancakes.
we normally have them with a range of the above but my fave is berries and ice-cream. nom nom.
tonight i am making just single buttermilk pancakes (shake, lazy today) with grilled fish, lemon butter and deluxe fries on the side (par-boiled & fried spud with spring onion, bacon, sour cream) - it is my fave savoury meal from pancake parlour.
& for dessert if i can be bothered i might do some in the poffertje pan with jam and cream.,
I have never even heard of it and I am a pastors kid! LOL...
Any excuse to have pancakes! I love lemon and sugar on it or bananas cooked in brown syrup! MMM....
pancakes for dinner tonight.
Mmm just the perfect thing for my after-work snack! Maybe some savoury ones for dinner too! Thanks!

I think you should have stuck with SR flour if you wanted thick pancakes. We make pancakes using a pikelet recipe, so it's quite thick, we use SR flour PLUS extra baking soda, so SR flour by itself is probably ok for not-too-fluffy pancakes. Perhaps you need to experiment with the temperature? The other thing we do is pop them on a plate with a tea towel over them before serving as this keeps them sort of soft instead of drying out while the others are cooking. HTH
What savoury ones can be done?? I remember when I was younger some kind of mincey thing going on them, possibly with a mexican kind of taste??
I made seafood pancakes for dinner tonight - cream, onion, cheese, mushrooms and seafood. Soooo not healthy but sooo yum.
I ended up having an omlette for dinner but pancakes for dessert!
I made them with GF SR flour and soy milk and they were awesome!! Even DH loved them!
On mine I had banana (which I put on before I flipped it so the nana got all warmed n yummy) then broke up some dairy free choc, caramel topping and soy ice cream... holy crap it was amazing!!! Pretty much like I was eating the real thing! (I am on no wheat or dairy cause my DD can't handle it in my milk :( )
I had pancakes for desert, but i cheated and used packet mix, only cause i did so much baking all weekend for my sons party, dripping with maple syrup! mmm
but if i make from scratch, its pretty much the same as everyone else, 1 cup flour, 1 egg, 1 cup milk, 1 tbs sugar.
I have a pancake factory, u know the brevelle one, makes nice big fluffy perfectly brown pancakes!
We went to dinner at Pancake Parlour...omg sooo good!
DC, we got deluxe fries on the side :D Delicious! We both had the Canadian thingo; two (delicious) pancakes with a massive dollop of butter, two fried eggs, a stack of bacon and maple syrup over the lot. Om nom nom.
OMG PZ - sounds like a delicious heart attack on a plate lol!
I made pancakes for dessert after seeing this thread today - and we had strawberries and REAL maple syrup from Canada yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum :)
