Hi
Just wondering if it is okay to include cooked rice in meals I make for my 9 month old? By rice I mean the rice we eat and not baby rice. If so what type of rice is best brown or arborio or white? I would be lightly pureeing the meat + veg that I would put with so assume I would include the rice when pureeing (he is currently eating textured foods but not very lumpy food). Anything else I should consider if doing this?
Thanks
PS Any good recipe suggestions always appreciated

my kids ate just normal family meals from around 6 months, and we eat a lot of rice. They never had any reactions, but of course that is purely anecdotal and not scientific in any way.
Thanks do you just then put the cooked rice on her tray table and she it up the rice or do you feed it to her? Sorry don't know that much about BLS. I just would have though the individual rice grains would have been really small to pick up ?
I just let them feed themselves with their fingers. It's messy but you will be amazed how quickly they improve, and rice tends to get a bit sticky so they can pick up a clump (or maybe that's just the way I cook it, lol)
Yep, just cook the rice and put it on her tray table and let her go for it. You will be amazed at just how co-ordinated they are when they want to be be. She will make a mess, that's half the fun
BLS is all about 'Food is fun until their one'.
Charlotte was feeding herself with a spoon by that age, we also did mostly BLS here and she was fine eating rice.
I found though if you put some kind on sauce on it it is easier for them to scoop up with the spoon and aslo reduces the choking hazard as the grains are stuck together, and not easily inhaled in such a state
Good luck!
Yeah, with #3 and #4 they were pretty much eating what we were eating - but in a cut up form etc - by 8 months of age - rice was one of those foods....![]()
DS here enjoys rice. I have used arborio to make a risotto (no stock, just water, veges and cheese). I have also just mashed a bit into his veges as well. He also like brown rice. HTH
