On low Christy?

Where is the Guinness Beef recipe, I have tried looking for it, but can't find it - thanks
I tried Astrid as I'm SURE I saw it before but I can't see it either.........sorry.
It's under 'RECIPES FROM CHATTER THREAD #3 (POST #3)' section of the slow cooker recipes area and it's called 'Braised Beef in beer - Caddie', so that's probably where the confusion happened because I call it Guinness Beef myself! *LOL* I did try to put the link but when I click it, it tells me there was an error.
Sorry I misesd this thread again!! aww thanks Becstar for thinking of me. Matilda's slept through the night this week and its been wonderful, our 10 month old sleeps through so it was nice for both of them to do it. We found out from an allergist that Matilda has a severe milk allergy and her drinking around a litre a day wasn't good. Since being off milk our house is slowly adjusting & becoming more "normal" whatever that is with children lol.
I cook it on low ;)
Hi SC experts!
I want to do some shanks / osso bucco but can't do my normal recipe bcos it has red wine and tomatoes in it and to cut a long story short it does REALLY bad things to my DS reflux.
Any ideas sans tomato and red wine?
Thanks!
oh nelly!!! *hugs* I wonder if you could do half, so no red wine but tomatos....
I don't have any recipes without it... but will have a look
have found a moroccan (sp?) lamb recipe I am adapting - will let you know how it goes.....
Christy, that's great about Matilda! :D
I tried the chicken garlic and lemon thingy....didn't turn out good at all :( chicken was dry and the rice was oh so gooey. YUK. I must just not be made to slow cook!
Will try yours next Christy, on low huh? Do you cook with the lid on????
OK, for those of you who've been trying to use the links in the SC recipes thread and found them not to work, I realised I made a typo in them when I set them up. So now it is all fixed and by clicking on the link for each one, you will get a new window open up with a single post. Sorry everyone.
I am giving the BBQ pulled pork recipe ago today, I will let you know how I go with it.
NELLY let me know if you still want a recipe for shanks minus toms and wed wine!!
im doing one now and although it has sherry in it you could omit it, this one has asian flavours
yes please jols that would be great. My experiment with white wine and lemon in a moroccan base was really yummy too - if I get organised I'll post it....
nelly will post sson!!!
OMG did corned beef tonight, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! devine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... and a nice bottle of red with it????? ;)
not red but a great bottle of chardy!!!
hehehe... I did a red wine & garlic casserole this week & DH was impressed for the first time.. the catcher was that I got to drink the rest of the bottle.
arrhhhh christy got to love that!!!!!
we went to a friends winery today and came home with 4 bottles of wine!!
mmmmm......wine. We went to a winery last week & came home with too many bottles LOL.... only 2 left.
2 cups of rice
500g of frozen mixed veg
Chicken pieces (I normally take a 2kg pack)
1 packet of Brown Onion soup
1 packet of Mushroom soup (or any other personal favourite)
Place rice in a LARGE oven dish, sprinkle half the packets of soup over the rice and mix well with a fork. Place the frozen vegies on top of the rice and pack the chicken on top of the frozen veg. Sprinkle the last of the soup over the chicken. Pour water over the dish untill all the rice and veg is covered.
Place in a pre-heated oven (180 degrees) and bake for +/- 1 hour or untill cooked, checking occasionally to make sure the rice has enough water.
Preparation time is 5 minutes and it is a life saver on a busy day. Easily feeds 6 to 8 people, or leftovers for the next day.
yes, it should work, but I wouldn't use anywhere near that much water. I would try 1 1/2 cups of water and check it after 2 hours or so - the chicken and vegies will release a lot of water while they cook and you don't want to end up with a soup rather than a stew.
Thanks Sportychick! Will definitly try it!
Hi Ladies,
I am very tempted to make a lasagne in the SC, but I'm concerned that the cheeses etc will go funny and separate out when cooking over such a long period. :S There are several recipes that I have found, but I'm nervous to try them considering I have had a disaster before with dairy in the SC separating. Has anyone tried the lasagne option and how did it go?
Thanks
OOO I loved making lasagna in the slow cooker....the cheese stays fine, I dunno which recipe you are going to try though.
It taste so lovely and real old style home cooked lasagna when in the slow cooker....I found if you semi puree your mince and add more pasta sheets the better it is too, especially with a bechamel sauce in the middle and on top.
While cooking if you watch it there is a layer of oil that builds up but its all good and when you turn off and let it sit/cool for a few mins it is YUMMO.
HTH
Good Luck.
Thanks Mumzy,
Which recipe do you use? I'd prefer to use one that I know works  Rather than experiment with a few that flop.
Thanks
Hi all! I bought myself a SC this week & I'm SO excited!!! I have cut & pasted lots of recipes from the sticky thread - now just need to try them out! I went shopping today & bought lots of different cuts of meat, even lamb shanks - yum! I've never cooked those myself. So I will be hanging out in here lots & getting ideas & probably asking lots of Qs! :D
Waahhhh!! Went to cook the lamb shanks this morning & they're off! :( I'm so cranky. So it's vegetarian for us tonight.
Hi all - does anyone have a recipe for xmas pudding in the slow cooker? Like your traditional type boiled or steamed pudding, except done in the SC. I will do a net search but just though I would check in with this thread.
I have a microwave one - not sure if it could be adapted
OOPSY sorry Kimi...I don't check back in there(the SC thread) often as I should coz it usually doesn't have anything to do with me.
To answer your question I can't even remember now which recipe I used. I think I kinda made up my own from looking at the others by making everything ready for my usual lasagna (with 500g beef mince a jar or two of tomato pasta sauce onion garlic italian herbs etc, bechamel sauce, cheese, dried pasta sheets broken to fit in SC)but putting it into the slowcooker instead for about 6-8 hours on low and it turned out yummy.
Hope that doesn't confuse you too much.
Hmm maybe next time I do it I should write down what I did and post it ;)
HTH
Thanks for that, I think I will do the recipe you have posted - not too complicated for me! Wow I would love to taste one of those puddings from the last link! Pudding perfection!
Now to get a pudding bowl and I should be good to go lol
It's in the SC recipes called Sausage Casserole. Cailin posted it. You can find it here, about 4 recipes down.

omg I'm soooo happy! I just found this thread, I LOVE my slow cooker... I just hit on the recipe link and now I can't wait to try some of them.
Its funny even though its summer i have been using my slow cooker a lot more - it doesn't heat up the kitchen like the oven does and it makes dinner sooo easy, especially since lately I have been out a lot in the late afternoon.
Well I have made a few puddings using the slow cooker and they have turned out perfectly! I am going to give one to each of DS's kindy teachers and I making 2 for my MIL (she put in a request) and 2 for us to eat on xmas day.
I found this one on a blog called Cooking Traditional Foods, I'm trying it out for dinner with the ILs tonight. We were BBQing but it's cold & yuck so I thought this would be nice served with mashed potato, YUM!
:
Crockpot Cranberry Chicken
Serves 6-8
3-4 lb chicken pieces
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 cup diced celery
1/2 cup diced onion
2 cups leftover cranberry sauce
1 cup barbecue sauce
Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Cover. Bake on high for 4 hours or on low for 6-8 hours.
Sounds yum and easy Sarah, let us know how it goes!
I tell you what, it smells fantastic so far!
bon I still use it twice a week, I make casseroles and stuff so that we have dinner when we need it rather than when I can get to it ;)
hi ladies - thought i might jump in here seeing we got a slow cooker for Christmas! have looked at the recipe list and some of them look really good - have a quick question though - most things only seem to need 6 hours on low - the comment we got with the SC was that i could cook while i was at work - but i leave at 7 get home at 5 or thereabouts - provided i don't need to do any thing after work.
does anyone have any favourites that take that long to cook?
is it worth cooking over night (or when i get home from work) for the next day?
i have never used anything like the SC, NEVER eat dinner til late (prolly half 7-8) so realistically, it would be 12 hours of cooking if i set it going before work (plus i'd have to drag my sorry butt out of bed earlier than i do now - and even that is a struggle!) - i assume food reheats pretty well after slow cooking it...
