Rouge, I am going to make this as a treat for DH and I tonight after the boys have gone to bed. May even have a coffee too :D. Shhhh, no-one tell Michelle Bridges, pretty sure it's not on my diet ;)
I'm so glad you love it as much as I do :)
All I can say is......WOW!
Had this on Friday night and it came out beautiful, so rich! I couldn't eat the whole thing, my DH had a few mouthfuls and loved it.
Quick question, should the cooking time be reduced depending on the wattage of the microwave? Not sure if mine had quite enough sauce or if I am just being a piggy.
My microwave is 1000 watts. So yeah probably ;)
Thankyou :D Mine is a little higher in watts.
My wink was at myself for not thinking of that. Doh!
Thanks to this thread, I now have a microwave bread & butter pudding cooling down LOL! If I only had dark chocolate & cocoa though .... I think some may just accidentally end up in our shopping tomorrow!!
Shan23 can you please share your recipe? Love B&B pudding!

I wish I never discovered this thread :( LOL
Sub a dub dub. This is my kind of cooking.
Here are some simple variations you can use for a mug cake: (I love the peanut butter one and I also use nutella...yuuummm!)
-Chocolate Chip - Add chocolate chips of course. Simple but delicious
-Vanilla - Replace the cocoa powder with custard powder. Check the timing and don't cook too long.
-Fruit Sponge - Place fruit in the bottom of the mug and mix in another container. Pour half the mixture over the fruit before cooking as usual. One recipe will make two mugs this way. To make it a vanilla fruit pudding leave out the cocoa and add custard powder. When cooking half the mixture this way, half the timing too. e.g. 1.5 minutes in 100W microwave.
-Very Lemon - Add lemon juice and lemon zest. Leave out the cocoa and vanilla and add extra flour. Check timing for your oven.
-Poppy Seed and Almond - Add almond essence and a teaspoon of poppy seeds. Leave out the cocoa and add a little extra flour. Watch the timing as it might need a little less time than the chocolate.
-Ginger Pudding - Add ground ginger and crystalised ginger chopped finely. Leave out the cocoa and add a little extra flour.
-Chocolate Cherry - Simply add chopped glace cherries, or add cherries and coconut
-Chocolate Peanut Butter - Add some small blobs of peanut butter before cooking. Or put a larger lump in the middle. Chunky peanut butter works best for this
-Surprise Cake - Add a small lump of something interesting to the centre before cooking. Try cream cheese, marmalade or jam. (This will be hotter than the cake so take care)
I love you all and hate you all at the same time!! ;) Thanks for the recipes!
Anyone else who is home alone tonight considering consoling themselves with Rouge's masterpeice??
Or just me?
Off to start 'baking'...
Not home alone, still considering having it again. Might add some chopped walnuts this time.
Cooked rouges awesome cake and the nutella cake tonight - both were amazing :)
We just ate Marushke's recipe, uh oh. The only reason I don't eat cake constantly is because it's too much effort. What the hell will stop me now?
Btw, dh just threw in 4 unbroken pieces of dark chocolate and it was like a river of heaven. Yum.
Just made the chocolate mug cake with 2 teaspoons of crunchy peanut butter added. YUM!
Made Rouge's recipe last night but had to use a mix of white and milk chocolate as had no dark choc. It was unbelievably yummo! It would be amazing with the dark choc.
stoopid double post
This thread is so dangerous for dieters, LOL. I just calculated the calories in this cake, and it is more than 800. That is calories, not kilojoules. Eeeeeeks!
This thread has made me gain 5 kgs!!
I also found a delicious recipe online:
Ingredients
Serves: 6
110g self raising flour (about 1 cup)
110g caster sugar (about 1/2 cup)
Pinch of salt
30g cocoa
55g margarine, melted
1 egg
4 tbs milk
1 tbs vanilla essence
For the sauce
110g brown sugar
30g cocoa
150 ml water
Preparation method
Prep: 2 minutes | Cook: 5 minutes
1. To make the cake, mix together the flour, caster sugar, salt and 30g cocoa.
2. Add melted margarine, egg, milk and vanilla to above mix. Stir well to combine and place in a medium sized microwavable bowl - the sides should be about 5cm high as cake will rise.
3. Make the sauce by mixing the brown sugar with the remaining cocoa. Sprinkle on top of the batter.
4. Warm water for 30 secs and tip on top of cake gently. Use a fork to gently ***** a few holes in batter to allow some water to seep into it.
5. Cook on high in microwave (800 watt) for 5 minutes.
DH keeps asking me to make it. And then I have to eat some, of course ;)
No no no that's just evil. No more! I will have to either exercise more or buy bigger pants soon

unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. its not.
Dr Seuss
Only 800 calories? That surprises me.
When we make the first cake recipe, it rises completely out of the cup and spills over the side. Do you halve the mixture into 2 mugs or have really really big mugs?
I make them in the Belly Belly mug I have. So it's a large size mug as it's shaped liked a belly :D
Ok, finally succumbed to this. Only had dark choc orange lindt, so used 4 squares of that. Very yummo and rich, just wish we had some icecream in the freezer.
Bump. Cos its cold. ;)
