    I made my first pavlova!

I actually did it on Monday, and forgot to come in here and congratulate myself! LOL!

I did it completely from scratch - and it worked out perfectly Lovely crisp shell and still plenty of goo inside! My recipe actually made a custard with the egg yolks, and having custard in the pav made a nice change! I needed more fruit, but it was a hit with the ppl that ate it.. so didn't really matter (can work on my decoration skills next time) But the pav base itself is what I was proud of hehe. I was going to buy a pre-made one, but there weren't any, so had to make it myself. Twas quite easy

    So yay to me! LOL!

    woohoo congratulations!!!
I love pavlovas. I must make a few for dinner - Ramadan is almost here and I love making yummy, yummy dinners. It's not really in the spirit of Ramadan which is meant to be about moderation but after 8 hours without food one can't help but to make ahuge dinner lol.

ETA - how long did you bake the base for? What temp?

    Thanks guys

Dach - I did mine about 35mins on 140. The recipe said 45mins at 150, but my oven is a bit hot.. and it was an old recipe book, so I figure they were talking conventional oven, mine is fan forced. I kept an eye on it.. and once it started to crack a bit, and had got that golden kinda colour (well.. it was golden in the oven light LOL) you know.. had that cooked look.. I took it out. It did collapse a little bit as it cooled.. but hey - that's why we decorate with lots of cream & fruit isn't it? LOL.

Oh - I should add.. mine was shaped differently.. i had a layer at the bottom, and then spooned the rest around the edge.. so that it was empty in the middle - like a nest I guess. That's where the custard went. This could affect cooking time compared to one big lump of meringue.

yay. I have only ever made one, it was a bit dodgy. It was not from scratch, from one of those egg thingos. the instructions said to mound it up a little, well mine came out tasting fine, but resembling a volcano! haha.. I might have to try again one day.
